Once again evolution takes a drop of chlorine to the gene pool. I'm sorry but that's just so fucking stupid I cannot work up ounce one of sympathy.

That's easily one of the most frightening things I've ever read.

"This is not a criminal matter," Phoenix police Sgt. Randy Force said. "This is a 21-year-old under no coercion or duress. He may have been on the Internet, and people may have been cheering him on. But what he did, he did of his own free will.

"The people watching don't know what he's taking, how much he's taking, what the affect will be, or whether it is deadly. . . . How do they know its not just candy he's popping and putting on an act for his friends?"

I think we have an early favorite for the 2003 Darwin Awards.

This is going to be hard to top.

We've got a couple more worthy contenders in the early running:

Mariano Alexis Herrera-Ba, ex of the Dominican Republic, a maintenance crew member who froze to death in the landing gear of an airplane. He was there for several days before being found.

My personal pick so far: Raymond Porre Jr, who used a gun to take care of a troublesome dog, the best way possible, by beating it to death. The gun went off, and the dog emerged the winner in this Virginia death match.

But of course because of this he will be held as a hero in the eyes of stoner teenagers and we'll probably see some more of these stories.

And I can't say I'm saddened too much by this story or any of the any upcoming ones.

Two ends of the spectrum here:

This is the memorial and information page put up by his brother.

This, on the other hand, is awful.

It's not funny. Now if they'd made a mouse pad or a thong, then it would have been funny.

I should admit out loud that I, too, find it funny.

At the same time, they might have waited for the body to cool...

Or maybe toss a percentage of the proceeds to the Memorial Fund? I tend to believe the whole deal becomes truly tragic if nobody learns anything from it.

(understanding, of course, that most people don't need to learn that mixing cocktails of serious prescription meds is generally not a recipe for a long and fulfilling existence)

You know they won't learn from this. There must be at least hundreds out there who hear about this and go "that won't happen to me, man..*I* am hardcore! That guy was stupid!"

The link is down, what was it if I may ask?

Like most cafepress stuff, it was real basic.

It was essentially this:

<ripper> i told u i was hardcore

Pretty much says it all, really.

Edit: one day I will remember that < and > are spashuul careactors.

What a way to go. Killing yourself, Live on the 'Net. People are just lazy nowadays.

What ever happened to jumping off a SkyScaper with thousands below chanting "JUMP,JUMP,JUMP".

What is this world coming too. Even suicide is high tech.
