A cut required seven stitches to close, and Rickert also suffered a chipped tooth. The astonished 6-10 Rickert didn't retaliate against the 7-foot NBA most valuable player, who also had unkind words for the former Gophers player. Apparently, the rookie wasn't supposed to score on the MVP. Rickert received his stitches at University of Minnesota Hospital.
Because the incident involved the Wolves' franchise player, the incident seemingly will make it even more difficult for Rickert to make the Wolves' final roster.

Not encouraging the punch, mind you; that's still pretty low-rent on KG's part - but he doesn't seem like the type to just snap like that unless provoked.

If this report is 100% accurate, omitting nothing, it'd be a seriously asshole move by Garnett. I'd suspend his ass, I don't give a damn if he's the MVP or not. There's got to be more to it, I'd imagine. “Nobody enjoys a good time more than I do, but this business of yours is as legitimate as a three-legged donkey-- which of course is illegitimate because as we all know, donkeys have four legs.”--Lance Storm, WWF RAW, 1/21/02 Two-Time Wiener of the Day (5/27/02; 7/3/02) Certified RFMC Member-- Ask To See My Credentials! | Alessandro

Originally posted by Greg Sandoval of the Washington Post NBA most valuable player Kevin Garnett punched a former University of Minnesota player during a pickup game last week at Target Center, cutting the man's face and chipping his tooth.
Garnett punched Rick Rickert, a second-round draft pick of the Timberwolves last season, according to several sources with knowledge of the event. Seven stitches were required to close the cut on Rickert's chin, said Susan Rickert, the player's mother, during a phone interview yesterday.
Garnett's agent and a Timberwolves spokesman declined to comment.
According to a report in the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Garnett's attack was unprovoked.
Rickert, 21, scored several times with the 6-foot-11 Garnett guarding him. Several other players began to "tease" Garnett about being outplayed, according to a source. When Rickert scored again, Garnett struck him without warning.
"Rick was surprised that Garnett reacted the way he did," said Rickert's agent, Mark Termini.
In November 2000, Garnett punched teammate Wally Szczerbiak in the head following an argument.
