I'm suprised this hasn't been posted yet.

Here's a Dallas Morning News article: http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/070105dnsporangside.5e40dae2.html. Within the article, there are also links to photos and video of the incident.

He has been getting hammered in the paper and on talk radio even before this. He was accused of ducking the Angels (either to improve his stats, give him more leverage in contract negotiations, or both), citing an injury to his non-pitching hand as the reason for missing a start on Monday. He injured the hand when he punched a water cooler after getting pulled from a game a couple of weeks ago, then made one subsequent start in which he got bombed.

I guess this is his response to the hammering he took in the press because all indications are that the attacked seemed both premeditated and unprovoked. It'll be interesting to see what happens in terms of fines/suspension. I'm wondering if the punishment will be assessed by the team or MLB.

In the "real world" Rogers would be fired for doing something like this. Snowball's chance in hell that he'd get anything that severe for this.

Dan Shanoff of ESPN's "Quickie" had a good idea - Rogers should at least not be allowed to play in the All-Star game.

Did I see a picture of one of the cameramen being loaded onto a stretcher? How did he hurt them that badly?

I'm already tired of this story...

The worst thing about attacking one of the media...is you have countless other media people ready to report on it until they beat it into the ground.

Stupid media.

Why, yes. Yes, you did. That gurgling sound you hear is my blood absolutely BOILING.

That's what the poor fella gets for doing his job...attacked and injured. Apparently Rogers' pitching woes are HIS fault...rrrrrrright.

Wonderful...your jackass attitude is no better than the *sshole callers to ESPN Radio saying the media got what they deserved. You better not tell me you find this kind of thing acceptable.

That's Larry Rodriguez of KDFW-TV above on a stretcher, thanks to this motherf*cker Rogers. And before any of you say "maybe he shouldn't have been shooting on the field"...he was working for Fox Sports Net Southwest, who own cable rights to do Texas Rangers telecasts. He was SUPPOSED to be there.

Oh, and here's what us professional photographers are saying. (B-roll.net)

Allow me to be the first to offer to place an Anton Bauer brick in Rogers's grill at a high rate of speed. Hey, your pitcher hit one of ours, so...

(EDIT: Even though it'll never happen, I'd love to see every camera go dark the next time Rogers takes the mound. Screw your broadcast, Rangers...photogs unite!)

Methinks someone needs a lesson in EVERYONE ELSE GETTING TO DO THEIR JOBS AS WELL. This wasn't Morton Downey Jr.'s character in Predator 2, correct? Kenny Rogers hasn't really been anyone noteworthy since 1998, and even THEN he was in no position to order other people in other industries around.

No, what I did say...was that I was already sick of the story, and that since the attack was on a member of the media..the media was gonna report on it until it was run into the ground. What he did was wrong, but I don't wanna hear about it everytime I turn on ESPN or any other sports network, because frankly, I don't give a shit.

I swear I've heard that rant before, Thrill. When was it? Oh yeah, the *last* time there was an altercation between a player and a reporter.

http://the-w.com/thread.php/id=24107#279716

And you have to admit, you're hardly impartial when it comes to the treatment of reports/camera men.

Rogers had a lapse in judgement. He was embarrased by his actions. ("His comment to me was, `I didn't handle this right. I'm frustrated. My integrity and toughness is being called into question,"' Hart said.) He will be punished. But everybody needs to SIMMA DOWN NAH!

Most professional athletes are jerks, hot heads, and the like. I'm surprised whenever someone else is surprised when one of them lashes out.

I am glad that you're furious enough to threaten to throw a brick at Kenny Rogers on the internet but calm enough to self-censor the word 'motherfucker.'

Rogers had a lapse in judgement. He was embarrased by his actions. ("His comment to me was, `I didn't handle this right. I'm frustrated. My integrity and toughness is being called into question,"' Hart said.)

But, we don't actually _know_ that, do we? We have John Hart's assurance that Rogers feels he 'didn't handle this right.' Rogers hasn't actually issued any type of public statement. My personal opinion is that he has a beef with the local media because he's been hammered pretty unfairly over the past few days. However, this cameraman had nothing to do with that. A couple of columnists and talk radio hosts are the ones that Rogers should have confronted (but not physically, obviously).

I give Rogers credit because his refusal to apologize is certainly an improvement over the half-assed apology (obviously written by someone who is not the player) which usually happens.

Before we get carried away, I think it worth noting the cameraman in question is a giant puss. He was on the early Sportscenter, and they replayed the clips all day yesterday. The dude's fine, and he's clearly looking to milk this for all it's worth; from the clips I saw on ESPN, the only thing he talked about was retaining a lawyer. That stretcher job was WWE-worthy.

Not to excuse Kenny Rogers being a clown, but, come on. He hit the camera. He didn't assault the man carrying it.

Two points:

1. Yes he hit the camera, but most of us have no idea how heavy/how much equipment he was loaded up with (Thrill?) which probably landed on him/hit him in the face.

2. As for retaining a lawyer...why not. He was doing his job (a REAL job by the way) and was roughed up by some dick who gets paid very handsomely to PLAY.

Just my 2 cents.

1. About 40 lbs. Saw it in one of the articles. He said the injury happened because he tried to prevent the camera from falling. Had some neck and back pain.

Neck and back pain....if we see this guy in a brace, call Mike Brady and have him throw the briefcase again....just to make sure.

Actually, I think he WAS in the brace when they stretchered him off...

Cameramen aren't hired for their toughness, but their ability to shoot a compelling story. A camerman shouldn't have to get tough just to resist getting injured by a baseball, it should be a given they are not going to get assaulted.

If I assaulted one of my clients for making me angry, I would be arrested, and no one would be making threads about how the client was a puss for getting injured, because it isn't their job to be defending themselves against me.

Rogers gets 20 game suspension (which I guessed at the other day), and $50,000 fine.

That's about right...although I've never actually put my Beta SX on a scale. But the way Mr. Rodriguez twisted on the way down, it'd be pretty easy to screw something up with that much weight involved.

Of course an incident like this is gonna raise my dander...I am a professional photographer, after all. But in that "same ol' rant, Thrill" link of yours, please note the sentence: Principle should trump personal affiliation every time.

If the photog went after Rogers, I'd want to smack the photog for making us all look bad by doing the WRONG thing. But the photog got smacked for doing his job.

Calling this a "lapse in judgment" is pretty weak. Assault is assault, whether it happened on a baseball field or on a street.

Uh...he KNOCKED HIM DOWN and kicked at the gear dude was CARRYING. That's assault, plain and simple.

I still want jail time for Rogers...the jackass. Athletes shouldn't be immune to the legal penalties you and I have to face every day (see Common Sense vs. Michael Irvin.)

Paid suspension, and if he makes the All Star Game, his contract states that he gets a bonus, which I'm sure would pay for his fine.

So all that really happens is that the Rangers are penalized by not having him for 4 starts or so.
