On WWE.com they've announced that Kennedy's initial prognosis was incorrect and that he hasn't actually torn the tendon in his arm.

He won't need surgery and his recovery time has been reduced to 6-8 weeks.

This is awesome news in every way possible for Kennedy, us and Smackdown.

Three oinkers wearing pants, a plate of hot air, a basket of grandma's breakfast and change a bull to a gill, got it.

That's awesome! Just in time for a feud with Edge at Summerslam?

Good for him, he worked hard to get to this position, it would have sucked if an injury had ruined it. Wonder if they wish they had not jumped the gun on Edge taking the MITB? If KK stayed heel, he could have milked it through the injury.

Wasn't the decision to give the MITB to Kennedy in the first place a bit of hasty booking by WWE? I had thought that Edge was going to win it, but then his jaw injury got in the way.

Kennedy had already made it clear that he wanted to use MitB at Wrestlemania, and that he considered Edge-style sneak attacks beneath him. So they could have had him do this but it would have been a pretty quick about-face, and I think it's more interesting circumstances in reality allowed him to maintain his principles in kayfabe. And it gives him a natural talking point in his inevitable feud with Edge: "I don't have to steal championships, I'm good enough to challenge you to your face and win. (Win.)"

Of course, the question is how they can do any of this stuff and keep him heel, but by the time he returns I think everyone's going to want to see him shut Edge up anyway.

I assumed they scrapped the Edge-Orton match at WM due to Edge's injury, and then put him in MITB just so he could be on the card.

Edge already won MITB in 2005, so they already did that storyline. I doubt he was ever considered to go over at WM, but who knows?

Cool ... that's great news in that Kennedy can really be escalated into the #1 babyface on Smackdown now ...

IIRC, Edge got hurt in his match with Rob Van Dam, which was a Money in the Bank qualifying match, so that was the plan because they wavered on whether or not to do a hard breakup with Edge and Orton. The story was, there were forces, including Triple H, who wanted to keep Rated RKO together until Hunter's return, so that he would have a hot feud to come back to. Edge didn't want to be the sacrificial lamb for HHH's triumphant return and pushed for the breakup with Orton so that DX/RRKO would be dead. Now he's the champion on the show whose forcefield repels Hunter, and Orton is supposed to be the guy for HHH to run through upon his return, so it seems like Edge has won out with some deft maneuvering.

Perhaps his time teaming with Hogan taught Mr. Copeland a little something or other.

This is the best possible news for Edge, in that he'll be safe from the returning HHH, he'll get some hot opponents when they come back from injury, and by the time he grows stale on SD he can then return to Raw after HHH has established himself and feud with him, possibly even as a tweener/face since it is hard to imagine HHH staying face for too long.

This actually turned out to be a great way to turn Kennedy as a tough guy, bad ass face, without having to totally sell out who his character is and play to the crowd.

They had to get the belt off Taker. If Kennedy can't wrestle for two months, that's a minimum of 3 PPVs he wouldn't have been able to defend the world title at. Even if they'd known about his better-than-expected injury news, they probably would have done what they did because Taker's prognosis remains negative.

It's not only good news for Edge's career, it's also good news for Wrestlemania 24. Pencil in that Edge/Triple H main event, since it's actually a bigtime match that's fresh.

Wow - WWEEEEEEEEEE sure is doing a swell job with its booking. First they buy WCW, then they devote all their energy for the better part of 2001 to unifying the rosters and all the titles. Afterwards, what do they do?
