Apparently the black dude is his bodyguard, which leads me to think that Kendrick may be getting a heel run. The match was against Funaki, it took place before the Smackdown/ECW tapings, and the black dude's name is Ryclon Stevens (from OVW, or whatever the equivalent of that is now).

I kind of liked jobber Kendrick. He jobbed so well, I mean. Sold the moves well. You could see HBK trained him. Anyway, it's good that he's finally getting a singles push. I hear mangement favors him over London.

That's too bad. I think that London is the better wrestler out of the two. That said, I do think Spanks has what it takes to make it as a heel, ESPECIALLY if he becomes yet another HBK protege to join up with Chris Jericho.

Or this is a rerun of the Brother D-Von singles heel push. He was given a protege named Batista.

Wasn't the American Dragon also floating around in some dark matches not that long ago? It would make for an interesting feud just to see how far HBK would go to put his own guys over.

Didn't they move Kendrick to Smackdown though? Would be hard to team him with Jericho now...

That might actually be the quote of the year. And from Kelly Kelly, no less.

Ok, seriously, when a small heel has been given a large heavy as a bodyguard, doesn't that almost always mean the BODYGUARD is getting the push while the small heel gets sent on a one-way trip to Jobberville? I don't like Kendrick's chances here.

EDIT: Exhibit A (Batista) has already been mentioned in this thread, but we can reel off Abyss and The Wall as further proof. And who got the better end of the push stick between Matt Striker and Big Daddy V?

-Shawn Michaels
-Tomko didn't exactly light the world on fire, push-wise.
-Matt Striker was a manager.

How about that Shawn Michaels guy? While Nash is still around I'd definitely say HBK is better off. I think the ideal situation is to get the heel and the bodyguard over like HBK and Nash.

Chris Jericho had a body guard originally in WWE too. How is Curtis Hughes doing these days? Chavo is getting a bigger push than his bodyguard currently. Christian was more over than Tomko. And though they aren't small guys there are plenty of examples where the smallER guy lasted longer like say Carlito and John Cena.

If Jericho still had Ralphus he'd be World Champion.

I remember how Bret use to always have to make it look like he was going to lose his title during matches just so they could promote other rivalries(Taker vs. Diesel). After Benoit faced HBK I'm thinking they might make benoit do that same shit!
