| #1 Posted on 21.8.02 1458.45 | The story on ESPN says that Shawn Kemp had a two year contract worth around $45 million. The last couple years he sucked on the court and the Portland Trail Blazers wanted to get under the salary cap to avoid paying a luxury tax. So, they agreed with Kemp to pay him $10 million deferred and cancel his contract. My question is this;
Why would Kemp agree to take $10 million instead of $45 million?
Is this true, or is he getting paid more under the table?
And will any other team offer him as much as $3 million per year?

I heard/read somehwhere a few years ago that like 60% (or some other rediculous portion) of his salary goes to pay for his 7 out-of-wedlock kids from 6 different baby-mamas. Is that true??
 Dont read this. |

| #3 Posted on 21.8.02 1731.23 | Actually he gave up $25 million, not $45 million. He's deferring the $20 million over the next 10 years. I don't think it's that big of a deal, since he could sign for the mid-level exception and get $4.5 million then sign another contract after that. I saw on ESPN Insider that he might become Samaki Walker's backup in LA, which would make me totally SICK.
"Shawn Kemp. You bitched and moaned until you got a huge contract. Got fat. Sucked on the court. A team paid you $20 million to go away. Here's your championship ring. You got some ketchup on your lip. More donuts?"
My boss, a Blazers' season ticket holder, thinks they must have some drug stuff or something on him to get him to take the deal, but I'm not so sure. If I were Kemp, and you told me I could stay in Portland and get $45 million, or I could have $20 million, leave Portland, still be able to hook on and get paid by another team (possibly the Lakers), I'd definitely take the $20 million and take off.

I was going to bitch about this but I don't want to turn it into a non-basketball conversation.
Anyway, he has to be crazy to think that anyone is going to sign him after seeing how his weight has ballooned up. But crazier things have happened.

I'm positive someone will sign him. Look how many teams Oliver Miller played for, and he had about 10% of the talent Kemp once had. | Jubuki

N-B-A JAM
You're in that game? You used to be MONEY.
As for Kemp, something seems fishy about this. Taking 25 million less than his contract stated seems to be going against his usual "MEMEMEMEMEMEMEME" attitude that he has.
