The sad thing is, I love Kanye's music. He was a major breath of fresh air during an era in which every single hip-hop song talked about money, jewelry, and self-centered fame. To see the guy who's had the potential to change a genre for the better behave like such a jerk is disheartening, because he's turning out to be worse than the 50 Cent's and the Soulja Boy's of the world. With this kind of backlash, his career could effective be over. Not a chance he reaches his old sales numbers again.
EDIT: It also doesn't help that Kanye jumped head-first onto that insipid auto-tune bandwagon (which turned him into Just Another Rapper), so for him to make a big stink over creativity losing out is a big case of the pot calling the kettle black.
It seems kind of funny that he is supposed to be on Leno tonight.
I remember a time long ago when Jay needed a boost for his show, and just happened to be talking to a guy who had done a stupid thing. He pretty much never was in second place again after that night.
Also, if someone had a youtube clip of Kellie Pickler actually saying what she tweeted about Kanye it might be the funniest thing in the entire world.

What a sorry sack of shit! I cannot stand the guy...never have and never will. For those who do listen to him, thats cool, I don't want to disabuse someone of their musical tastes but son of a bitch that guy really needs to be disgraced from the music scene.

Did anybody catch him on Leno tonight? Talk about uncomfortable and way too heavy for primetime comedy. Jay tried to make light of the situation at the beginning, but Kanye was dead serious the entire time. When Jay brought up Kanye's (deceased) mother and what he thought her reaction would be to his actions, I thought for SURE he was about to break down and start crying.

Kanye knew he didn't have a leg to stand on and attempting to make ANY kind of light of it would have been career suicide (as if his actions wasn't that already). Leno asking him what his mother would have thought was an incredibly hard-hitting question, especially when we're not even a year removed from her passing on. It needed to be asked and I'm glad Leno actually came out and asked it straight out.
West did all he could, as far as damage control goes. He apologized. He appeared truly contrite. He didn't mug for the camera or grace us with any of the usual egomaniacal crap. He even said he planned on going away for a while and acknowledged that he NEEDED to go away, though whether any of that sticks remains to be seen. After doing everything wrong on Sunday, he did everything right last night.
What's odd to me is how irate people across the net seem to still be 48 hours later (not including this board). This is the guy who went in on the President of the United States (at the time Bush) after all. It was the VMAs, it was Taylor Swift, he was a dickhead for sure, um... and what? Although I'm sure Obama chiming in (huffingtonpost.com) (off-the record) had to be the worst part for Kanye. I think the commentary from various people about racial undertones in society are clearly reaching, (Kanye's just an egomaniac like that), but this article on the ugly racial tweets (huffingtonpost.com) in response to Kanye, are actually pretty bothersome.

Wow, those tweets were... something else. I know it's naive, but I always have an image in my head of what people who use the N-word so freely are "supposed" to look like, then it always surprises me when it turns out that they're young and hip-looking instead. Does that make sense?

The tweets shown in that story turned my stomach... Really? People were THAT offended and angered because 'Ye hopped on stage (probably/possibly drunkenly) and made a fool of himself? Disgusting...
By the way, apparently "planning on going away for a while" means announcing your co-headlining tour with Lady Gaga!

Total. Racial outburts in public are what Blowjobs were during Clinton and Patriotism was under Bush. The in-thing

As far as awards shows go, the MTV Video Music Awards is just a shade above the ESPYs in the credibility category. Sway was allowed in. That's problem one in proving that this was an important night/event. People are totally overlooking the fact that the reason this show exists in the first place is for celebrities in or around music to gather and congratulate themselves and hopefully get some pub. Taylor Swift was not accepting a lifetime achievement award or a nobel prize. Frankly, if she cannot handle a known celebrity interrupting her how does she deal when a crazed fan jumps on stage at one of her concerts? Get over it. Mail her the award if she can't deal on stage.
The only thing more disturbing is the fact that now I can't get the image of our president spending his precious time watching this out of my head.

This was a little baffling.
Pick one of: 1. Duh, Sway works for MTV! 2. How does it become a more important event if Sway isn't let in? 3. Racism

I didn't watch all the VMAs, just the two parts that have been crammed down my throat (the second being the Beyonce hero save.) Sway was the first name I could think of that I knew would be there and work for my irrelevant zinger.
Wow, you must be really old or something.
I AM! 28 is the new 60.
I don't usually get this irritated, but I just can't believe how much of the last two days has been devoted to a man who, like I said yesterday, has done this before...and before..and before.

Well, think of it this way. You have a party once a year at your house. One year, some douchebag comes in, makes a scene and then goes away. You say to yourself "That guy's an asshole".
Next year, in the middle of your party, he crashes again, and makes a scene. Again you think "that guy's an asshole".
Finally, he shows up at your latest party, and acts like an asshole AGAIN, only this time, he's picking on your teenage guest.
Everybody who's been at all of your parties think the guys an asshole, and they talk about it for a few days.
