Can anyone else believe that the Kansas City Freakin' Royals are still in first place almost halfway through the seasons?? I figured that their quick start was an aberration after their May slump, but by God they're right back there. Of course, the Twins playing like a bunch of headless chickens also helps, but KC deserves some credit.

Oliva: You are the weakest link! Goodbye!

Stewie: Ahahaha. Oh God, that's funny. That's really funny. You write your own material? Do you? Because that is so fresh. 'You are the weakest link. Goodbye!' You know I've never heard anyone make that joke before. You're the first. I've never heard anyone reference that outside program before. Because that's what she says on the show, right? Hmmm? 'You are the weakest link. Goodbye!' And ye...ye..yet you've taken it and....and used it out of context to insult me in this everyday situation. What a clever, smart girl you must be. To come up with a joke like that all by yourself. Mmmmm...that's so fresh too. Any Titanic jokes you want to throw at me as long as we're hitting these phenomena at the height of their popularity. Mmmm? Cuz i'm here God you're so funny!

The Twins had the chance to knock out KC a few weeks ago when they had the 4 game series, and instead lost 3 out of 4 to them. Considering the inability of the White Sox to play good baseball consistently, the Twins inability to throw the knockout punch, and the way the Royals have dominated their division, they might be able to stay in the race for a while. Unfortunately, the key difference is the Twins have already lost their 7 games against the Yankees for the season, while KC hasn't played them yet. That'll be the point where KC gets knocked out.

LIMA TIME! The question is, is it real desire to win, or they don't want Sweeney's out clause to trigger?

Of course it's real desire to win.

I have been a Royals fan since 1969 and they have enjoyed some very good seasons. It's been a really long time since they have been competitive and I am enjoying it. I am not being sucked into believing they can make the playoffs, but I am somewhat optimistic.

That they traded two minor leaguers who were never going to play for the big team to acquire Curtis Leskanic is nice to see as well. Leskanic will help take some of the load off Grimsley. The Royals bullpen has been putrid and this is a step (albeit small) in the right directions.

I am in the same boat as you, pieman- I've been a KC fan as long as I have watched baseball. I am not counting on any impossible Playoff or World Series run this year, but it is nice to finally have them play well again after so long.

And I will gladly forgo a playoff appearance this year, if it means they will come back stronger next year. I don't want Next year's Royals to be this year's Angels.
