credit to 1wrestling.com: (who i may note always seem to have the most in depth and quickest ratings results)

"The Kane storyline continues to draw the viewers in as the for Raw once again rose, this week doing a 4.3 cable rating. As I have said before, it certainly appears that there is an audience that is tuning in to see the twists and turns of the angle."

an impressive rise considering the holiday an all. a good show should lead to a good rating next week. Monday Night Football is going to keep more young viewers at home so RAW might not be hurt since more total viewers will be flipping channels. Lets hope the turn around continues because higher ratings, I think, will have to turn into larger house show crowds and bigger PPV buy rates and I think the industry could use some good news!

and thats all i have to say about that!

I can't see Raw NOT starting strong and finishing weak next week. They're starting with Kane vs. RVD and going up against the coin toss of the Philly/Tampa game. They really have to do something to keep up the suspense after the match. It'll probably be something like Kane chaining RVD to the hood of his car (what kind of car does Kane drive?) and driving off somewhere. A camera crew will follow them and catch up at 10:55 when they discover RVD tied up to a radio tower or something in a lightning storm.

I went to Syracuse at the same time as Donovan McNabb, so I'll be paying attention to the game. [Damn cable box rendering my PIP useless.]

Why is it that KANE is "ratings gold"? Didn't Goldberg close the show with a monster showing in the ring? Perhaps it's Goldberg that's bringing in the viewers.

It could be, but most of the big ratings segments over the last month have been for Kane segments.

More good news for Raw. I'm sure the doomsayers will be here shortly reminding us ratings will surely drop next week, just like they were surely going to fall this week. But that's seven out of the last nine ratings at 4.0 or above. And the 4.3 is the third highest rating in the last 14 months. Something is working.

Edit: The two higher ratings were a 4.4 for May 12th featuring Goldberg/Christian in a cage and a 4.5 on March 3rd for the first Ausin/Rock confrontation leading up to Mania. If anyone cares.

I think the biggest money match the WWE has potentially right now will be Goldberg vs KANE.

Typical bullshit 1wrestling.com verbiage. "As I have said before, it certainly appears that there is an audience that is tuning in to see the twists and turns of the angle."

"As I have said before..." Dave Scherer takes credit for being able to read the ratings numbers each week and notice the pattern that has emerged. Nice job, Dave!

"...it certainly appears that an audience is tuning in..." AN audience? Maybe Dave means THE audience, the ones with the nielsen boxes, the ones that actually determine the ratings. I don't have a nielsen box, most of us don't, and I'm pretty sure Dave Scherer doesn't either. So when the ratings come in, THE audience, the ones who decide the ratings, the ones who ultimately decide a good or bad ratings week, the ones who determine in a hard number sense what works and what doesn't, and thus cause celebration or condemnation of WWE's programming of that week, THAT audience is who is tuning in because Kane's antics are interesting television. That audience is THE audience, not AN audience.

The thing is, there's a big difference: We are AN audience, and if we had nielsen boxes and thus affect the ratings - which in turn affects the course of WWE programming - we'd use that power more and complain on message boards less. THE audience likes it when Kane sets people on fire or straps jumper cables to Shane's nuts, and actually, so do I.

Dave Scherer can feel superior and knowledgeable all he wants but he sits there every day with his crappy little website begging people to pay to read him without pop ups knowing full well nothing he says or writes matters to anyone who can affect WWE's programming - not the McMahons, the WWE brass, and not THE audience. Sucks to be Dave Scherer, and sucks even more to be his loyal, agreeing readers.

This belonged more in Site Bashing, I know. My apologies.

I think it's a combination of things. The Kane storyline, when given heavy screentime, has coincided with ratings increases. That has to be a big part of it.

I think another is momentum. People know Goldberg is going to beat HHH and WWE actually has a money match or two on their side now. I think Goldberg/HHH and Goldberg/Kane are going to draw viewers and buyrates. Maybe not great or even somewhat decent buyrates, but bigger than normal.

The main event on RAW had all of the elements of buildup and delivery, leading into a big PPV event. It's working.

Of course, with that said, let's also not forget that every bit of momentum WWE has ever had since the year 2000 has been quickly squashed just as fast as it is gained. If they don't give Goldberg a decent run after he beats HHH, and if they don't keep up the Kane push, I bet these numbers go back down. Fast.

Austin's interview segment did a 4.5....the guy is still ratings gold. I don't know if he still has a match in him, but if he does, the eventual face vs. face match against Goldberg will be money.

I'm glad the ratings are on the rise. I was worried about Vince & Co. for awhile there. (Still am, but for different reasons.)

Put me down for another one who likes the Kane story. I'm really interested in this plot and seeing where they take him. And even though I don't care for Goldberg, he's the number one man to put the strap on. And it's high time Trips dropped it, so it may as well be The Man Known As Having Two Moves. I mean, The Man Known As Goldberg. ;)!

Anyway. Yay! Higher ratings! Congrats to Vinnie & Linnie! Keep up the good work! And stuff.

Er, also a question -- is there anyway to turn off those damn smilie faces so I can stop putting exclamation points behind mine?

:)!

The more I think about it, that matchup wouldn't surprise me for Mania.

Goldberg could cut a promo like, "Look, I know you're co-general manager. And I know that you're retired. And I respect you. But I've always wondered what would happen if the two of us hooked up in the ring."

RVD vs KANE should be a ratings grabber next week.
It's in a cage but KANE put RVD down at SummerSlam.
I think the dramtic part will be when Shane some how gains revenge. The cage match will probably end in chaos.

You are all wrong!!!!! I know in my heart that people tuned in to see Stacy and Steven Richards! This means Richards is due for a main event push! Vince are you out there? The numbers don't lie. Unless the numbers say push Austin as a super face GM, then they are oh so wrong.

Well you can knock me down with feather with this rating I'm shocked. It would be logical to have some sort of drop due to the holiday, for it to rise, that's just something.

Another amazing thing is that excluding the first quarter (did a 3.8) every other quarter was at least 4.2 or over. That's pretty consistent Q-hours. There were times with high jumps ie. Austin inring interview (Q2-4.5). But there was never any large slides during the show, when the rating did drop during the show it was 0.1, 0.2 at the most.

Next week is going to be a lot of told you so, or spin stories with the Net writers. I think MNF will give a minor dent in the ratings, maybe 0.3 difference but not more then that, like a 0.5 drop some claim will happen.

Kane rules. I've been saying this forever. The show needed more Kane. It got it, and look what happened.

All hail Kane.

Still needs more Kane.

I think the thing that's paying off right now is that every week, somebody is doing something crazy and different. Now, if the WWE can hold on to the people tuning in to see what's happening next, they're in the money.

In regards to the Nielsen box, is it something that people know they have? I would think that the integrity of the results would be compromised if someone knew there viewing habits were influencing people like that.

I have to think with the current situation Goldberg will be back for at least a few appearances. Afterall, WWE did put him over Lesnar at WMXX. True, Lesnar was leaving but WWE has to think he will be back at some point.
