I guess this will end up before the Supreme Court soon.

There wasn't any chance of this case NOT appearing before the Supreme Court. And believe me, this was the reason for Republicans stacking the bench in their favor.

Roberts, Scalia, Thomas, and Alito will definitely vote to keep the wiretaps going and set a new precedent. And while it doesn't guarantee a win for the Bush Administration, the deck already seems to be stacked in their favor.

Oh, Please. Spare me. The party in power puts their folks in the court when it comes open. Period. There wouldn't be any question at all about the makeup of the SCUSA if Bush the elder wasn't such a lefty (in the Repulican party, anyway). His apointees swung the court further to the left. It's about time we got more balance on that court (now to the appelate courts!)

The reason any party appoints a justice is to get their ideas (which they must think are right, otherwise, why have them) cemented in. The lefties did it from the WW2 era to the Reagan era. Marshall and Warren and White were very, very leftist. Now, the more conservatives have the power (at least for the moment) and it's only right that they balance that.

Oh - and it's not about searches. It's about abortion. It's time to give that power (of legality or illegality) back to the states, because that shouldn't be a federal law (unless we define, constitutionally, when life begins).

As always, AWA, you say "lefties" and "leftist" as if having new ideas and questioning the status quo is a bad thing.

I think you read what you want to read and totally ignored his (salient) point.

No, I say lefties and liberals because, politically, the word is divided into groups. Groups who both have ideas. Traditionally, groups that tend toward personal freedom above all else, have been classified as "left" while groups that believe that some personal freedoms need to be curtailed for the benefit of all have been called "right". Fair outcomes are left; fair processes are right. Rejecting the inequality that results from the free market is left; accepting it is right. Equality is left; liberty is right. The idea that human beings are naturally good is left; the idea that they are naturally evil is right.

Of course, we got this left right thing from the Frenchies. The conservatives sat on the right side of their legislature and the lefties sat on the left.

I hesitate to say Liberals to some extent because I have respect for liberals, at least those in the classic sense (see Dr. Dirt, for example). They believe in personal liberty but aren't for some of the idiocy pushed by our leftist congressmen.

Did I mention I was a rightist? And real proud of it.

I avoid politics like the plague but this one has been going on a while. I want to say I agree but then again I don't. Confusing issue when it comes to wanting security and wanting privacy. I want both but can't we not figure out a way go about it to make people at least some what happy, safe, and secure?

I get 310 miles, used to only get 260, on 3/4 a tank of gas. Please go ahead and try it. I've seen a major improvement in my mileage

Will this ruling help the Republicans win in 2006?

Not to be partisan on this, but it seems like that's what the Democrats are going for. The thing that makes the wiretaps illegal is because there are no warrants and no oversites. As it stand right now, the administration can do whatever it wants. IIRC (this issue has been going on so long that I've started to forget the details), they even have the ability to ask for the warrant retroactively, which they have chosen not to do.

The judge made the proper ruling. Now SCOTUS will likely decide. This sort of ruling is good for our government as it helps the presidency from becoming too imperial. "W" had the authority to tap for 72 hours without a warrant. IMO this should result in a policy all can live with.

And this isn't a "left" vs. "right" issue but a constitutional one. Don't assume "W" appointees and the other conservatives will rule in his favor. It is quit interesting to look back on how SCOTUS judges vote vs. how people think they will.

And AWA is right, whatever party is in power will appoint their political buds. To do otherwise would be stupid.

You have to understand, though, that we live in a society of self-conceise cowards. Nobody wants to take responsability for anything anymore, and consequently everybody is looking for a scapegoat to all of life's problems. Some general rules: 1)
