I check out JR's bbq website maybe twice a week, and just happened to check it a few minutes ago and saw these two blogs:

It was an interesting plane ride from OKC to Columbia, South Carolina Monday night. On my flight from OKC to Atlanta I had my 3rd Bells palsy attack.

I was able to reach WWE doctors who were in Jacksonville for Raw and they were able to call in the medicines I needed to get started on to slow down the paralysis. Now we just wait and see how the meds work and Mother Nature takes her course.

My plans are to tape SD tonite working with the King and perhaps even Michael Cole so we can make sure we can do the job that the product and the talents deserve.

It's a big week for WWE as we all prepare for Bragging Rights this Sunday in Pittsburgh. I hope to be able to contribute and time will tell as the week progresses but I intend to remain optimistic and to fight thru this issue.

This isn't my first challenge I've had to deal with and there are lots of folks that have much worse issues than do I that they contend with on a daily basis. My intention is to fight thru this and continue doing what I love.

The wrestling business and those that work in it have become such a huge part of my life and the way I see it this is just another bump in the road as I am far from "tapping out."

With all the fans that have always supported me thru 35 years, I know I won't be going thru this alone. Thanks.

http://www.jrsbarbq.com/blog/plans-have-changed

It has been decided that I should not risk further issues by working tonight and I am in the process of arranging a flight back to OKC so I can see a neurologist on Wednesday.

Life is about facing the challenges we encounter so I am going to do all I can to get better and back at the announce desk asap. I wish I had more answers but I simply don't at this time.

I want to be a part of Bragging Rights but only time will tell if that will be physically possible. My passion and love for the game is in tact but I have to do what's best for my long term health.

WWE has been tremendously supportive of my situatiion of which I am very grateful.

Never count me out of the game as this isn't the first mountain that I have had to climb. Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole will handle SD from Columbia. My thanks to every one for understanding this matter. Better days are on the horizon.
---------------------------------------------------------

I hope he recovers as well as he can. I know he was looking forward to calling with King tonight at the SD tapings. Bells Palsy sucks. My cousin had his first attack at 17 and has had nothing but complications thru his life because of it. (He's now 46.)

December 1998. IIRC he was back on TV in February for his heel turn but he wasn't a well man.

That was when he chewed out Bart Gunn and had his own separate announce table, right? He looked pretty rough back then.

I hope he doesn't rush back. Knowing that Vince is always chomping at the bit to replace him with someone who has a better "look" for TV, I'm afraid he'll try to return before he's recovered.

Of course, isn't his contract up for renewal?

I don't propose to know how Vince McMahon works, but he's been known to release wrestlers and talent when they're in ill health or dealing with medical issues, right?

In any case, get better soon, JR - you are awesome.

Yeah, no doubt. I used to read the official WWF magazines back then, and I remember seeing still pictures of him yelling at Bart, and it was pretty brutal. It's one of those things I have burned into my memory because I felt so bad for him back then. Probably also the main reason that I had so much bile built up for Ed Ferrera when he did his thing in WCW.

What gets my goat is that now RoboCole is on both shows for god knows how long while Joey Styles decays away as a fake webmaster and corporate tweeter.

Didn't King say he was doing Smackdown this week? They should just call up one of the ECW guys. I've read that Striker and Grisham were a pretty good team in the past, seems like they could be a good fit in the mean time.

Maybe long term one of the ECW guys is the answer (or using one of the wrestlers), but they probably want an team experienced working with other on the show before the PPV.

Grisham and Striker wouldn't work this week, because JR was doing the show only because Grisham is off on a honeymoon with his wife.

Rather the opposite, actually, and a lot of wrestlers have gone to rehab on his dime! I'm sure someone with a better memory than mine will be able to fill in some blanks, but the only instance I can think of this happening is when Test got released while nursing a broken neck.

Tim White with cancer, Aaron "Jesus" Aguilera with a neck fusion (I think), Dawn Marie with a pregnancy. But there are plenty more positive examples (Droz, Chris Nowinski).

Also, Vince has fired Jim Ross about a million times, one of which was because of his first attack, in 1994.

Is JR and 'independent contractor' or an employee does anyone know? I imagine he was an employee back when he was VP of talent relations maybe?

Announcers are employees; I think I read Meltzer once write that that's what Vince thinks he can berate Michael Cole with no consequences, since he knows Cole needs the benefits WWE offers.

If my memory recalls in real life J.R. was fired twice by the WWE, and a couple of times as storyline. Correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway here was my fav. moment, Who could forget heel Jim Ross.

JR's out of the Bragging rights PPV, according to his Blog and maybe out as a regular announcer

sounds relatively bad.

We are concerned about the cornea in my right eye being damaged which is why I am using a ton of artificial tears and having to tape my eye shut at night to sleep along with using a gel in my eye under the eye patch.

Ouch. His damage from before was predominately on the left side, & now he has significant involvement on the right. That's not good.

Hate to have to hear about anybody having to deal with something like that.

Todd Grisham and Matt Striker to be the new semi-permanent Smackdown announcing team. (JR's Blog)

Also, he said that he'll be on 1560AM The Game out of Houston at 5pm central today if anybody wants to hear how he sounds.

Whoops, that was yesterday. But here's Sean and John's podcast page that seems to be a couple days behind, so maybe it'll be up today.

I get the commercial breaks in the matches, except some times when the break during the main event is cut. The show normally runs short by eight-ten minutes. I don't get the DX merchandise ads that everyone's been talking about.
