I've been taking Xmas pics like mad at 3 Megapixels which turn out kinda big to email/instant message to someone. Does anyone know an easy way to reduce their size?
Thanks all and Merry Christmas!

Well, technically there are a few ways. One is to crop the picture to a smaller size. The other is to save the picture with a higher compression ratio.

Using a higher compression ratio is lossy - you will get pixellation and washed out colors if you take it too far. Cropping the picture is probably the best move because it doesn't degrade the image quality, but it reduces the size by eliminating portions of the picture that are unnecessary.

How often do you do send pictures? If you have a bunch to send or generally take a lot of pictures that you share, it might be worthwhile to get photo editing software. A decent program will allow you to resize/rename/etc. a bunch of photos at the same time. Also, if you share with a lot of people, it might be best to download all the pictures to a website (my personal preference is shutterfly.com) and then you can send the links to whomever you want and not bog down their email.

That's a link to download.com to get irfanview. It's a free application that did not have any spyware the last time that I used it. It has a batch conversion option that is really handy, and it is a good all purpose quick image viewer.

I've been using Irfan View for the last 4+ years now and I SWEAR by it. It's almost too easy to crop/resize photos.

I agree. Also, if you ever put photos together for a presentation/slide show (with music, transitions between photos and inserting effects) or want a more robust software program to manage your digital photos, then I would also highly recommend photoelf (photoelf.com). It costs $25 but is well worth it if you work with digital photos much. They also have a free trial period, so you can download it and play with it to see if it suits your needs.

I third Infranview! If it wasn't for it's batch conversion tools, I would have gone insane long ago converting Jpegs for my brother-in-law's real estate site.
