In a move a long time coming and should surprise no one at all (except for it should have went down MUCH sooner), the Blue Jays toss out their GM.

Click Here (sportsillustrated.cnn.com) for more info.

I imagine Jays fans are thrilled today.

Good first step, but I won't be satisfied until the team has a new president in place who can actually give some details about the team's future and what plans are in place. Enough of everyone having an interim tag --- get a new president, fire Cito Gaston and get this franchise back on track.

Kirk, crackers are a family food. Happy families. Maybe single people eat crackers, we don't know. Frankly, we don't want to know. It's a market we can do without.

The Boston media that has thought of JP as the 2nd coming might be on suicide watch.
Now, the chicken or the egg question for the Blue Jays: Can they be competitive enough to get the fans to return after over 15 years, or do they need the fans to return so they can have the resources to be competitive?

The Blue Jays have all kinds of resources. Even in the down economy, Rogers is making all kinds of money --- in sheer dollars and cents, they're one of the wealthiest owners in MLB. If they wanted to, they could easily spend up to $150 million a season.

As someone who's lived in Toronto for the last six years, let me say that this fanbase does indeed exist and it is passionate for a winner. Even though the Jays haven't competed for the postseason in years, attendance was always quite strong before this season, when the team just totally hit the skids and people got fed up with management. Earlier this season, when the Jays got off to that great start, they were the talk of the town. It wouldn't take much to reinvigorate the Toronto fans --- firing JP is a great start, since that guy was legitimately hated by the fanbase.

They still have Theo. Just read Posnanski's blog about him today.

Ricciardi's firing yesterday was, outside of the back-to-back World Series victories, the greatest day in Jay history. I did a bit of a dance.

I'm shocked they didn't hire Towers.

Aren't the Jays like the Canadian Red Sox?

Point taken, but at some point a guy has to be professional. You don't really see Felix Hernandez making a world class headache out of himself on a regular basis.
