Vernon Wells in 2013: $21 million fifth outfielder. (Or fourth, if Bourjos is traded.)

I'll say this: I think I really want a Dodgers/Angels World Series now, but it will make Rangers fans very, very sad.

I can certainly think of nothing to suggest that dishing out a huge contract to a big-name free agent will lead to anything but a World Series title for the Angels. Nothing in recent history anyway. Like, not in the past year or anything.

Also, Hamilton was very poor in the second half of last season after a hot start. I would temper my excitement if I were unfortunate enough to be an Angels fan.

The idea of Hamilton and Pujols batting consecutively in the lineup behind Mike Trout is pretty delicious, but not in a "the road to the AL title goes through Anaheim"-kind of way, yet.

That's ok. He can complement Pujols, who doesn't show up until the second half of the season.

I love this...to an extent. Losing Torrie Hunter hurt, both in terms of production and in terms of sentiment. Replacing him with Hamilton is a win, especially given that Hamilton is about to enter his prime. The Angels offense is going to be potent with Hamilton and Pujols, even if Trout goes into a sophomore slump.

But I hate to harp on this EVERY SINGLE YEAR, but what's happening with the BULLPEN? How many games did this team lose by blowing 8th and 9th inning leads? The only addition made so far there is Ryan Madsen...who is coming off Tommy John surgery. Who is supposed to close games? Hell, who's supposed to pitch the 7th?

The Angels can field the #1 offense in the league, but it means jack if they can't hold onto a lead. I hate having to make that complaint every year and it never changes!

Yes, this makes me wonder who the M's will overpay to make themselves feel better. Some free agent is going to get very lucky!

They're in such a terrible spot that it is kind of depressing. I don't totally blame them for not going nuts spending on these guys, because that kind of money on Josh Hamilton isn't going to turn this thing around by itself, but they can't keep wasting good pitching year after year.

I still think they should have been the ones to make the big trade with Miami and gone with the National League lineup, small ball and steal bases. It looks like quite the value now.

Oh, and baseball has lost it's mind.

Well he should be pretty good his first few years, but between him Pujols and Wells there's gonna be a lot of dead money on the roster. Well, Wells is already that. I don't particularly like the Angels rotation, but their offense should be pretty great lead by Trout.I would suspect that Hamilton's power to take a hit leaving Texas and I suspect Pujols continues his decline, but still for the next few years the team should be a 90+ win team. That said, I wouldn't be shocked if Hamilton is the type of albatross that Ryan Howard is in his last year or two of that contract.

Just think though, this only works if Hamilton can stay off the sauce. It's not like LA is St Louis or Milwaukee as far as night life goes.

You can find drugs and get addicted anywhere or fall off the wagon. I don't get why people think addicts can't play in big markets as if you can't get drugs anywhere. I believe he became a big time addict while playing in the sally league with a team located in a small area with a tiny population.

Despite the name on the banner and much to Arte Moreno's chagrin, we aren't talking about Los Angeles. We're talking about Anaheim. Orange County is a conservative part of Southern California and is hardly the wild nightlife that L.A. is. We're talking about the home of the Mouse here. He'll be just fine.

Between Hamilton, Albert Pujols, Kendrys Morales, Vernon Wells, and Tommy Hanson, they've got to be considered the early favorites to win the 2008 World Series.

There might even be a chance that he'd be less likely to fall off the wagon in LA. He started using after a car accident in 2001, when he was with Tampa Bay's A-ball team in Charlestown. After that, he played in Orlando and Bakersfield before getting sent to rehab. It's pretty safe to say there's more entertainment options in and around LA than in those towns, and people turning to drugs out of boredom isn't unheard of.

Ironic that you named the two of the biggest beer-producing cities in America when citing two 'safe' towns for the recovering alcoholic.

I agree with the fact that he could relapse anywhere. But I do believe he has the right people around him to keep him on the right track. At least, I'm sure those who are heavily invested in him are going to do all they can to make sure he is on the straight and narrow.

That said, I do have a concern with LA/South California: if he has another big slump and/or doesn't get the job done in a clutch situation, how will he be able to deal with the LA media? It seemed like he got a bit sensitive at the end of his Rangers tenure with the Dallas press and fans and I can easily see LA bringing more pressure, especially with both the Angels and Dodgers pouring money into their teams for a possible WS run.

The LA media? That's the concern? LA, as a sports town, isn't nearly the pressure cooker that Boston, NY, Philly, Chicago, and Detroit are. He got testy in Dallas because the media turned on him in disgusting fashion. Sure, that can happen in LA as well but it's not as likely due to the amount of teams in the area.

What if we spotted you Kendrys Morales? Would that help?

SEATTLE -- The Los Angeles Angels traded power hitter Kendrys Morales to the Seattle Mariners for left-hander Jason Vargas on Wednesday, filling needs for both teams.
