Do you guys actually READ my posts? Not only are you the second person to bring up a previously mentioned incident after I already responded to it...as a bonus, you provided the EXACT SAME LINK I did!

http://wienerboard.com/ thread.php/id=16251&page=0#194950

I STILL don't plan on repeating myself (allowing for the obvious irony in repeating the bit about not repeating myself from earlier in the thread). Somebody, anybody, GIVE ME AN ***ON THE RECORD*** UTTERANCE OR TAP OUT. I will also accept explanations on why "everybody does it" is a valid defense for what the Senator said ***ON THE RECORD*** in that Rolling Stone interview. At LEAST tell me you understand my point. I will again attempt to duck out of this thread because I have nothing new to offer.

(I would also have accepted, "dude, it's Rolling Stone - they make up EVERYTHING")

I think it's pretty obvious I simply missed your initial post... it's not like my goal is to send you into orbit.

It's gone... my bad.

Does anyone really think that a man as in control of himself as Kerry actually had so much passion this was unscripted? I don't. It's like the little kid who swears to get a reaction.

Bush did call someone an asshole but is was not supposed to be on mike. And who cares. I'm not a Bush fan but I don't know what this has to do whith what Kerry did and has a totally different context.

I do know this, had it been done by some LOCAL politico over MY radio station, it would have been a death knell for his career.

HOWEVER, since big Jonny is busy failing to become President, we'll have to see him drudged up again every four years, like Gore will be, like Gephardt is now, like Mondale was. "Give the convention a big speech, Jonny!"

There are Republicans dug up in the same manner, Dole et al...

And followed by the mandatory Simpsons quote "Bob Dole doesn't need this!", or conversly "What is this, some kind of tube?"

On topic, while us enlightened people realise that pollies are human, they really should watch their P's and Q's when on the record. Why make the oppositions muckrakers job easier?

The problem is it wasn't a slip of the tongue. It was said in a printed magazine. So if he realized what he said, all he had to do was say please do not print that comment, or please edit it to say he screwed it up or he handle it inappropriately. Its not like he was caught on camera saying it, he could have gotten it changed if he wanted to.

I don't think this is that big of a deal on both sides. This was a Rolling Stone interview, not a political debate, and it's style is a bit more casual than that of a Forbes or a Playboy.

In Kerry's view, the Bush Administration "fucked" everything up. I think a lot of people share that view, and while politicians do need to maintain professionalism, in think that in the context of what he said it wasn't a big deal. Maybe that's why it's not all over the news... well, aside from the fact that Kerry doesn't have a shot.

Likewise, if the Bush Administration is offended by such a use of language from one of their contemporaries, they should be able to comment on the situation and still go about their jobs. That's politics.

We expect our pols to be in character 24/7. We expect them to be "better" than the common man as we are elevating them to a position of high office. We are also bipolar in that we expect them maintain contact with us and be one of us on some level, but in a genteel sort of way. That is where Bush does well normally. he has managed to look presidential while looking in touch while working at the ranch, etc. That is where Kerry, and Dean need work as they can come off as rather distant and even haughty.

The Admin isn't offended, they ae just grateful for athe ammo.

Outside of derogatory remarks, why do "dirty" words even exist? Please, I'm not baiting anyone, I'm just wondering where/when in history it became okay to say something like "screw it up" and a sin to say "fuck it up." And that's just one example. You can also say "SCREW YOU!" or use "screw" as a verb...

Why can someone say "crap" but not "shit" when it means the exact same thing in a variety of context? Is there history to this that I'm not aware of? I'd google it and everything, but I think I'd get quicker answers here. Thanks ahead of time.
