John Cena appeared to have suffered a knee injury at tonight's Raw house show in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Cena apparently landed badly taking a bump from Wade Barrett's Wasteland and they went right to the finish. It was awkward because it was a cage match, Barrett was to try and climb and Cena was to stop him, but when Cena got up, he couldn't stand, let alone climb, so Barrett had to come back down for no reason and they went right to a submission finish. Cena was limping when it was over and during the usual post-match celebration where Cena does mic work, he said that it looks like he's going to be needing time off after tonight. He limped to the back after finishing his mic work.
...Yikes. This would be a huge blow to the company, obviously, especially with the CM Punk-led revitalization of the Nexus, and the fact that the roster's depleted of faces (albeit mostly on the SmackDown side). Isn't Randy Orton taking some time off due to injury as well?
One has to wonder if Triple H will come in and be the next to be targeted by Nexus, or if he'll go after Sheamus, or... hmm. Well, that's the nature of the business. Real life sometimes writes the plot.
I hope his injury's not too severe.

Oops! And there goes Barrett's push. Nothing will get you in the doghouse faster than putting the company's meal ticket on the shelf. (See also: Anderson, Ken)
I do think panicking over this is a bit premature. Wasn't Orton on the verge of getting lost in the shuffle once he finished up with Miz? Couldn't they just plug him into the feud with Straight Edge Nexus and not miss a beat?
If Cena is hurt and HHH is still not ready to come back, could we see the face turn coming for Seamus? As much as I enjoy him as a heel, i could definately see him pulling off a face well enough until HHH or Cena come back.
Considering it wasn't a title match, why not just have Barrett continue climbing to win the match? If it is a sprain/minor injury, they can work around it. If it is a blowout, then they have trouble. Of course, if they had just stuck to the stipulation that Cena was fired for a few weeks, this wouldn't have happened. Perhaps they can rehire Juan Cena before someone scoops him up?
Galidor is spot on if the injury that requires more then two weeks off. If they ran Nexus like they did early on attacking both heels and faces then they could pretty much feud with anyone. The real problem is a storyline like Nexus is supposed to elevate heels and faces instead it elevated a bunch of young heels that are still green and no other face beside John to really stop them. Now, if Cena is out, the WWE will have to throw Orton into the mix for some weird reason like saving John or something.
I also don't think HHH coming back is going to help the storyline, he will just squash them and then probably Punk at Mania. I can't see Hunter looking weak to a bunch of guys who started less then a year ago. The best solution is to have Nexus destroy everyone on Raw and then have Punk beat Miz for the belt in a three way with Morrison and carry that thing to Mania with either a returning Cena to stop them or Morrison going after Punk and have a WarGames style match with the rest of Nexus and the Raw crew. I expect John to be back by Mania time unless, its broken and even then I will lay good odds on him coming back. Cena doesn't miss Wrestlemania.

Maybe not during that move at all, perhaps.
After awhile, Barret hit Cena with Wasteland, and Cena kicked out followed by Cena going for the Attitude Adjustment, which Wade blocked and tried to escape yet again, causing Cena to catch Barrett on top of the cage.
Cena came down with him in a bulldog. After that move, Cena wasn't the same. Barret kicked Cena and went to escape and spent about three minutes with one leg over the cage (which happened right in front of me). Even though he did a damn good job selling being beatdown, after awhile you could tell something was off. Finally, Cena slowly hobbled up and climbed the turnbuckles and only made it to the second rope. He began throwing weak punches on Barrett. As clear as day, I heard Barrett say to Cena, "I got this." Barrett flipped off the cage and Cena basically fell on him and applied the Crossface for about ten seconds before Barrett tapped.
If Punk is credited with taking out Cena, he eclipses Miz as the most hated heel on RAW. That's not so good for Miz. I wonder (briefly, mind you) if they consider taking the belt off Miz for now so a heel champ won't be surpassed by a non-champion heel. I can hear both CRZ and lotjx inhale deeply before launching their invectives, so let me say I'm not advocating this. Just wondering how far the ramifications might spread.
But if you're Punk, and you just took out Cena, what do you do with this new gang now? Dare we wonder if Bryan is up to the task of being the hero there, at least until Hunter comes back and gets the attention of Nexus?

Thank you, Matt for letting me take a deep breath. It all depends on the injury, if he is able to walk out of the ring on his own power, I can't see it being more than a month. Of course, I have no idea and I doubt WWE will know for sure until the end of this week.
They have a few options with this. They can go the legit injury route where they show the house show footage thus no one really gets the credit for taking Cena out. Punk makes fun of John for faking an injury then face him til John returns. Second option, they do the Nexus beat down and then I would think force a three way with Miz, Punk and Orton at RR. It would destroy Miz's chances of main eventing Mania and probably ever seeing the title again thus stalling a push for a guy who did nothing wrong. The third option which would the safest option if John is out for past Mania is have not only Nexus destroy Cena, but Edge as well. Nexus goes to Smackdown, Wade stays on Raw and Miz stays champ. The last option and probably the nuclear option do Who Ran Over Austin with Cena as Austin? Have HHH comeback at RR wipe out Sheamus then he takes the belt off of Miz at Elimination Chamber and beats Punk at Mania. All the while, we get a roster pointing figures at one another til we find out it was HHH all along. Another nuclear option is buyout Brock's UFC contract or contact Dave and insert them in Cena's spot for no earthly reason.
I just can't see them taking the belt off of Miz. He has worked hard and shouldn't be punished due to someone else's injury. The best course of action is to take Nexus to Smackdown which needs a shot in the arm anyway. Yet, I fear a nuclear option will occur if Cena is out past Mania.

As much as we may dislike Cena the character as the Determinator, he's also very much a real life example. Tear a muscle? Come back several months early. Want to make an impact in the community? Make the most Make-A-Wish appearances than any sports/entertainment star. Him walking out under his own power isn't a good indicator of the injury.
Miz apparently has been praised in WWE circles for his hard work as champ, and I don't see them taking the title away quite yet.
The reasoning for Punk joining Nexus can easily be made; and you can handwave him being there during the first beat down as him trying to sell the con. Or this is all revenge on Cena for throwing him to the wolves. Either, I trust Punk will deliver. But it's a neat twist, and I think the most effective way for this fight to go is for the one to lead the fight against them be involved with this feud already.
Morrison had his title shot hotshotted to next week, they could try to have him run with it. He was also a part of Team WWE at Summerslam.
They seem to be pushing Daniel Bryan into the upper mid-card, and he was a part of NXT Season 1 AND a part of NXT Season 4. He could do it I'm sure, especially against CM Punk.
Barrett as a face could work, although when people find out he was in the match with Cena getting hurt people may not cheer for him.
But there's one name I haven't seen mentioned yet, as awesome as it would be for him to show up;
Chris Jericho, who was there from the start.
After a (very) long hiatus, I have begun to write again. And this time, I'm not alone!

Having two big heels with steam can only be a positive when you've got as little on the horizon for Wrestlemania like they do right now. Throw in Barrett depending on what his future holds and you've got three, and the best part is they're all new acts. I would've assumed Sheamus would also be part of that group but he's been oddly marginalized despite winning KOTR and having Triple H waiting in the wings. Still, unless everything gets dropped in February to set up Cena/Edge/HHH/Orton/Taker matches with each other, this year will be the first shakeup to the top Wrestlemania matches in five years.
I think the part that needs hashed out is that all four are on Raw, so between the Rumble and the Chamber, one or two them need to get in the SD title and Taker streak pictures to give that side something Mania worthy.
Let's say Cena and Taker are ready for the show, Lesnar is barred from doing the show, Jericho and Batista don't come back, and they save Triple H's return for WM. Right now that's assuming a lot. But I don't think it's out of the question that you'd see
Cena/Miz Orton/Punk HHH/Sheamus Taker/Barrett
as the top four matches. That would be pretty wild. The matches would probably all max out at like ***1/2 (and Taker's would just be him gutting through a short streak padder), but that's life without Shawn Michaels.
