Watching the Jan 8th Smackdown, I was slightly annoyed by John Cena's rap against A-Train I believe it was.
To me it came across as uninspired, his flow was off and he was doing all sorts of things to his voice to sound funny.
Basically he was playing it to the crowd as a babyface.

I figured this can happen. Maybe he didn't feel good that day.

FF to the Jan 15th Smackdown.
Heyman cuts a nice heel promo, Cena comes out doing a silly walk (a hybrid between Edge and Shane McMahon..two guys that look like idiots when they walk out from the back imo)
Again his rap is horrendous, and he is doing all sorts of silly voices instead of being an edgy rapper thug that he is supposed to be.

I wasn't on the Cena bandwagon at the beginning. He clicked with me when he was doing the anti-Brock promos last year. Lost me in the months after, and I jumped back on when he started getting really good in his promos late last year.
Now however? *sigh* I thought he was supposed to stay controversial and cool and all that.
Right now, I think he is slipping into that annoying role of the super-baby face who does all to cater to the crowd.
I might have to cheer anyone he is facing. I hope for him and the WWE not many others feel the way I do..

*sigh* Why bother?

Motherfucking A.

How do you go from "You can bite my white South" to "I'm fittin to get me some soooooooap!" in a matter of months. I mean, by all means, it's cool for a guy to be happy and smiling and all, but Cena has been the most gleeful sumbitch out there the last two weeks.

Well, he has been main-eventing Smackdown with the company clearly very big on his performance. He's gotten to work programs with the Undertaker, Kurt Angle, and has even faced Brock Lesnar for the title. Man's got a lot of reasons to smile, no?

Ah, interesting, yes Cena has lost a bit of his edge but I mean seriously doesn't everbody sorta lose that when ever they turn face? I mean it seems to be character flaw for mostly all wrestlers when it happens. Except for a select few...Taker, Angle, Rock, HHH, Micheals, and Austin. I think they might be the only ones that never really changed all that much after a turn. I could be wrong but that my take on it.

I too am worried that with the recent face turn he will end up too warm n cuddly. I do see a lot of Austin in him; he needs to remain edgy and controversial if he is to grow into that kind of certified megastar. Hopefully, a good feud with a guy like Rocky will bring out his best.

Agreed, his attitude should stay as a loner thug. His teaming with Benoit in any capacity should just be shunted off to the side. Anti-authority all the way, to the point of being an a-hole. I think he should be more of a tweener, really bring out that gangsta attitude that is prevalent in hip hop culture. Whatever that is, I don't know shit about it, but it's not saying "Chriiiiiiiiisssss!" like a fag on TV.

I hate to have this turn into a love in, but your right.

The same thing happened to Brock when he went from growling evil monster to Mr Fine and Dandy.

His character and raps pre-face turn were cool enough that the crowd would have popped huge for him if he did little more than start ripping on heels instead of faces. Quite why he appears to be going all happy go lucky on us I have no idea.

Cena has a gimmick that has caught on, but it's a gimmick that will limit him as a performer. If he's going to go face, he needs to switch things up a bit and add depth instead of staying as "Rap Guy, the Rapping Wrestler."

Even Steve Austin lost a bit of his edge when he turned face, but it was easily countered with Vince McMahon adding more of an edge to his character. It's needless to say that what Cena needs is a nemesis. He needs a real enemy to battle, which will help him develop even more.

Just like The Rock needed Austin to play off and develop off of, and Austin needed Bret Hart and Vince to play off of, Cena needs someone like The Rock, who will work with him and help him branch out as a performer.

That said, I loved the "Chris" segment. Hip hop isn't just about screwfaces and gangsta posturing; it's **okay** to be a little comical, especially if you are modeling yourself after an Eminem. In my opinion, it's the candy-coating of his raps and persona that might get him in trouble. Obviously, non-rap fans might find his raps less-than-fully accessible, but slowing down the flow to cater to them is a sure-fire way to get the fans to turn on him. The lingo, at this point, is still authentic, and he hasn't become a caricature. What that segment showed is that Cena can carry a main event interview slot (albeit with Benoit playing the heavy) while remaining "in character." That means that he doesn't need to ditch the gimmick to be accepted as a true top-level guy.

Very disappointed that none of the hosts asked Alex for his favorite match. What happens at Full Sail when they do the live show? Is that the first time the contestants actually see how their week got edited down to 20 minutes?
