That WAS Hawkman. Probably a nod to Geoff Johns' JSA stroyline where Hawkman came back to the new Hawkgril and only he recalled their past lives, coming off as a bit wacky in the head.
Very nice to see Carter after Starcrossed promised Hawkman and delivered Rico Suave with wings.

It took me a minute to recognize who it was. When I recognized who it was I shouted "Luke".
Luckily, I was by myself.

Carter Hall is a bit of a nutjob and, as angry johnny said, a nod to Geoff johns take on the current Hawkman/Hawkwoman relationship.
The Key. The Extremists. Doctor Polaris. Sinestro. JLU was DC geek heaven last night.

They purposefully left that open to your interpretation (and/or future follow ups.) Thru the episode, they pushed towards nutjob, with nothing to back up Carter's story, but with the same basic story being presented as legit in the comic books, you could go either way.

And yes, it was geek heaven last night, especially with the appearence of Carter Hall. Line of the night, though, definitely goes to Lex, in referring to the defeated Key and Doctor Polaris.

This season has a lot of directions it could go, but I'm very intrigued by the increasingly unstable Lex and his desperation to regain his connection to Brainiac.

Having the real world intrude on the comic hero hijinx was really a nice touch... but I think the Legion of Doom arc is going to work just as well, since it sets up an anti-league organization that's more than just a bunch of random baddies. Having a power struggle within the group and keeping the League in the dark about the group existing at all is an interesting dynamic. I was also impressed with the casual toss-off mention of Hitler and the Spear of Destiny; pretty daring for a Cartoon Network show.

Very cool.
However, to me, not as great as the Doom Patrol episode of Teen Titans.

JLU has been awesome thus far. The scene at the end of the second episode shown Saturday night was absolutely astounding. I'm also really enjoying their treatment of the Grodd character, in that they've made a super-intelligent ape not look absolutely ridiculous lording it over other super-villains.
Like I said in this thread, it's yet another example of a season not looking terribly impressive on paper but delivering in spades. If they keep up the pacing of what they've done so far, this could easily surpass last season.

Between Warlord, Metallo and Silver Banshee in the first ep, and Grodd explaining the Viking Prince story in the second ep, and the rest of the Legion Of Doom sitting there soaking it all in and UNDERSTANDING why they should care about the prince, then WW spinning into costume, GA humming his own theme, and J'onn quitting. Everything. Geek-out. I really can't wait for this all to come out in complete sets as I plan on getting every season. The next ep with Batman, Flash and Orion vs. the Rogues. Spooge. ;-)

Maybe it's the fact that I loved Grell's work when I was a kid, read the entire series, and was expecting something different. It was okay, but I didn't think it was anything special. Who's the guy in armor, anyway? Didn't ring a bell. Only thing that I liked about the episode was the advancement of the LOD story arc, with Grodd wiping out the brain. Classic.
The second episode, however, with the Viking Prince, was way cool. Joe Kubert art? Agent Faraday? Diana spinning to transform into Wonder Woman? Awesome. Hell, the scene with Diana flashing the bracers was hella cool... | odessasteps
