I remember JJ winning his first belt from Razor at the Rumble 95, and finally loosing it to HBK at IYH. In 99 he beat the Godfather, Edge and D-Lo for the title. That makes 4 title reigns!
What happened between Razor and HBK?
I think he once lost to Razor, but won the belt back later, right?
And number 6? Sparky Spark Plugg Hardcore Bob Holly?
Does anyone know? I´m really not sure about the last two.

They did roughly the same angle twice...the first time it was Holly/Jarrett in 95 and the next year they recycled it between Savio and Goldust.

No chance.
As my user name probably suggests, the greatest ever IC champ has got to be:
The Bad Guy, Razor Ramon.

Jarrett also lost the IC title to Edge at a house show the day before Fully Loaded 1999 and won it back at the PPV, which made him a five-timer. He then lost it to D'lo two days later and won it back at Summerslam for the sixth title reign.
If you're going on the basis of number of title reigns, the only guys close to Jarrett are RVD and Triple H, who have held the IC belt five times each.

I'm pretty sure H has only held it four times (beating Mero in late '96, Rocky in summer '98 and Jericho and Jeff Hardy in early 2001). Jericho's pretty close, but his title lineage is kinda murky. He beat Chyna for it, then there was the whole co-champions debacle. I think WWF history counts that as two reigns, after he beat Chyna and Bob Holly to get sole ownership of it. So there's two. Then he beat Benoit again in May 2000 and lost it back like a week later, so we're up three. Then there's the reign in 2001, from the AWESOME Royal Rumble ladder match, so that's four. His late 2002 win, when he dropped it to Kane, makes five, and then he had that five-minute reign last October time after he beat and lost to RVD in the same night. So hey! Jericho equals the six-time record. I think.

Jericho won the belt on:
12.12.99 from Chyna, then it was held up on 12.28.99, so we can declare it vacant 01.03.00 - awarded to both Jericho and Chyna, making them co-champions; you can be nice and give them both one here, or just give them each a half? 01.23.00 - Jericho wins a three-way over Chyna and Hardcore Holly, so that's 3 or 2.5 05.02.00 - beats Benoit for 4/3.5 01.21.01 - beats Benoit for 5/4.5 09.16.02 - beats Rob Van Dam for 6/5.5 10.27.03 - beats Rob Van Dam for 7/6.5
So there's the question of giving him the one or even the .5, but the title DID change from just his to vacancy to him and Chyna, so you have to say that counts, right? I guess. Wrestling is stupid.
But I think Jericho is #1 in most reigns as IC champ.
Jarrett has five so far as I can count:
01.22.95 - beats Razor Ramon 04.26.95 - beats Bob Holly after title is suspended 05.25.99 - beats Godfather 07.25.99 - beats Edge 08.22.99 - beats D'Lo Brown
So I *think* it goes
1. Jericho (6.5-7) 2. Jarrett (5) 2. Van Dam (5) 4. Benoit (4) 4. HHH (4) 4. Edge (4) 4. Ramon (4)
Then after that you get into Chyna/Goldust/Christian territory and so on.

He didn't lose it the last time he had it, but he did lose it to Rick Rude one time.
And, forget Jeff Jarrett. The best IC Champ ever is the "REAL JJ" Road Dog! ;-)

I thiiiiink that when WWE had their title belt history site, the whole business with Chyna was only counted as 2 for Jericho. 1 for when he first beat her, and then 1 for the period where they co-won it and he ended up the sole champion. Or maybe they gave him half a reign when they co-won it and the other half when he became the only champion. But it ended up at 2 somehow. I think. | asteroidboy

Yeah, but I gotta give the honor to Honky, mainly because he STILL refers to himself as the "greatest Intercontinental champion of all time."

It was in back to back house shows in Quebec (Trois Rivieres and somewhere else...Montreal or Hull, I don't remember). The titles changes occured in ladder matches.

Trips's fifth reign wasn't really a reign per se -- he beat Kane at No Mercy 2002 to unify the IC belt with the World belt until last May, when it was revived. But he can at least say he WON the title five times, even if the fifth time all he did was put it in mothballs.
