Cast
Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones
Mike Colter as Luke Cage/Power Man
Rachael Taylor as Trish "Patsy" Walker/the one day "Hellcat"
Wil Traval as Will Simpson / the one day "Nuke"
David Tennant as Kilgrave/ The Purple man
Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth

So this show came out yesterday and since I loved Daredevil I decided to give this one a chance. It's really good, now I'm big on Marvel shows having Super heroes in them doing heroic things.

In daredevil he actually is Daredevil and does fight evil, this is where Jessica Jones is different but it is explained in the very first episode. So Jessica has powers but due to being mind controlled by the supervillain Killgrave she quits being a hero and rarely uses her powers due to PTSD.

I'm only up to episode 7 but it has a lot of nods to the MCU, Daredevil, Ironfist some easter eggs for comic geeks and also sets the stage for The Defenders.

Dont say its not worth it, when you can sleep with no fear, that kind of time is worth any thing.- FFX

Its good. However, by episode 10, it feels like they should be done. I really did not care for the Will character even when he was on their side. He felt like convenient plot point than actually character. Tennant is just evil. So, evil it questions my Doctor Who fandom.

Ritter is great as Jessica as his Mike as Luke Cage. The use of the Sweet Christmas line is great. We do get a Daredevil alumni cameo. They are setting up for a season two, but its getting delayed to do Defenders. Which is the right call. There is a lot of sadness and bleakness to this. Granted, Daredevil did the same thing, but there was moments of fun. There is not a lot of that here. It fits with the film noir they are going for, but again by episode 10 you are probably ready to either fall asleep or cry into a pillow. I also disagree with parts of the end.

A few of my friends asked where was Shield during all of this. No good answer there. Its a shame they don't have Matt Murdock or an older Spider-Man showing up together saying they are putting a team together.

I'm fine with the slow burn they are doing towards Defenders, (allowing Claire the only real cameo to connect this to anything else), but when that slow burn takes four shows and two years, it feels way longer than it needs to.
Will Jessica show up in Luke's show at all? It would be fun if Claire is the Coulson that appears in all four shows and unites everyone in Defenders (until she gets killed and then secretly resurrected for her own show).

That said, this may be one of my more favorite MCU properties, behind Guardians, which... maybe its telling that the stuff I'm liking most is the stuff I was least familiar with ahead of time.

I liked how the powers aspect (outside of Kilgrave's mind control) felt downplayed for most of it. It really played like a noir detective story with special people rather than a superhero show. This show got dark and bleak at points, but that's what I think I liked about it. The MCU is generally upbeat, but this felt darker, like a recent DC movie. I wouldn't want Marvel to make a turn that direction on the whole, but for a single project it worked.

It made sense that SHIELD needed to be kept out of this. I'm not quite sure the timeframe but in general they seem busy enough that they can't focus on the craziness going on in Hell's Kitchen. It'd be awesome if at some point Coulson and crew appeared just for a cameo. It might make more sense to play that card in Defenders. As it was, I felt that this story worked with just Jessica and Luke as the only supers.

I am disappointed that it took until the finale for someone to respond to Kilgrave with a pair of headphones, as I was calling for that from episode 1. Still, it was well played how they handled that reveal.

I figured that Simpson had to be the precursor to something special. (I'll look through the Marvel wikis for IGH and Nuke soon enough). I didn't realize Trish was Hellcat.

Tennant was great. He kept Kilgrave charasmatic enough that you almost wanted to root for him, but vile enough that you knew he had to die. His chemistry with Jessica when she was living with him made me want to watch a buddy-cop show of the two of them, but I knew his character was irredeemable. (Maybe there's something there with for a mind-controller who's less of a psychopath.) I liked that Malcolm became the heart of the show, after being revealed as Kilgrave's stooge, and his questioning and wandering until he finds himself at Jessica's side. I liked the connection he and Claire had while watching over Luke (and i can see why there would be calls for Spidey or Daredevil to play the same kind of role with Jessica.)

I'm guessing Luke's show will be out around May? Can't wait.

My mother's been watching Glee with me in the room since the middle of last season, and while I've listened for the music (which is astonishing), this is the first episode I actually sat and paid attention to. And it turned me into a Gleek.
