OK, take a good look at the article here:

"A joint investigation conducted by officers with the Moore County Sheriff's Office narcotics and select enforcement units and the Fayetteville Police Department led to the arrest."

Sounds like this has been going on for awhile....

"Hardy was charged with felony trafficking in opium, two counts of felony possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule III controlled substance,"

Coupled with the above sounds like they worked a sting operation. If he sold to an undercover officer and promised more (all speculation) he's up an unsanitary tributary without an effective means of propulsion.

"a residual amount of powder cocaine and items of drug paraphernalia"

Comparing that to whats on 20 dollar bills is silly. Obviously, the residue was left on the paraphernalia, which will get you every time there's a search. Don't just write that off.

As of 2/28/05: 101 pounds since December 7, 2004
OFFICIAL THREE-MONTH COUNT: 112 pounds on March 9, 2005
OFFICIAL SIX-MONTH COUNT: 142 pounds on June 8, 2005
OFFICIAL ONE YEAR COUNT: 187 pounds on December 7, 2005
As of 2/27/06: 202 pounds "I've lost a heavyweight"
As of 7/31/06: 224 pounds
As of 12/7/08 (four years out): Still 210 pounds down!

Until we have more details though, we can't act like it's either one. That's my point. The way the sheriff's statement is worded, it could be anything from used crack pipes on the living room table to coke residue on a counter and a bong in the bedroom closet. Even a box of plastic baggies in your kitchen can constitute drug paraphernalia under the right situation, especially in a "no tolerance" state like NC.

As far as it being the result of an ongoing sting operation, or him selling to an undercover, the sheriff's office doesn't make it sound like that's the case:

http://fayobserver.com/Articles/2009/09/12/933051

"Chief Deputy Neil Godfry, with the Moore County Sheriff's Office, said the Fayetteville Police Department received a tip a few days ago.

The subsequent investigation led to a search warrant, he said."

This is a totally wild story. I must say, however, that I don't agree WWE parted ways with him "just in time". The fact is, one look at what he's been doing on WWE TV makes it seem that WWE knew he had a problem and their solution was not to help him, but rather to turn it into an on-air storyline. And by "makes it seem" I mean to imply that this is exactly what they did. His stash is probably not markedly worse than what most wrestlers have or have had in the past, but this is the second time a huge spotlight has been shone on it since the supposedly foolproof wellness policy was implemented.

And the other guy was Chris Benoit.

In terms of WWE's immediate, short-term operations, they did part with Hardy just in time. The one bright spot WWE can say is that at least they don't have the hassles of Hardy being on the active roster. They don't have the booking headaches this weekend of figuring out a way to take the World Title off of him and write him out of storylines, whether or not to (let Punk) acknowledge this on camera, etc. That's the one "lucky" thing WWE can say about this.

Otherwise, the long-term ramifications remain to be seen.

What did he do on WWE tv that made it look like he was on drugs and that WWE knew about it?

They have been open about Hardy's "mistakes" for the past 9-10 months and using it in stories (Matt Hardy brought it up as well)
To the general crowd, of all wrestlers he seems both most likely to be using stuff AND most likely to be ´forgiven´ due to his charisma. So he was the best person to use for the CM Punk straight-edge heel turn. Never did I get the idea they did any of this to punish Hardy or make him look bad or remind him of his troubles, etc.

Another question is whether WWE goes through with the planned Jeff Hardy DVD they've been working on. On the one hand, you'd think "no way," but on the other hand they don't have a lot of chances for DVD revenue in the upcoming quarter either and this surely would have been a big one so I don't think you can never say never JUST yet.

As long as he doesn't kill anyone, they can always cover themselves by putting the words The Self Destruction of in front of the DVD title. This way, they can appear to be critical, while at the same time still receiving revenue.

On the Observer board, Alvarez said "New DVD off the drawing board as of today." But I don't know if he actually knows anything (usually not) or is just making an assumption.

Not really a matter of punishment. Point is they took something they knew to be a potentially fatal personal issue and they mined it on television for dollars and cents. Yes, nothing new in wrestling, but this is the kind of carny bullshit that slows their so-desired progression into "legitimate entertainment". For his part, Jeff didn't seem to mind and in the last couple months he didn't even frame his past issues as "mistakes", he just took a posture that CM Punk thinks he's perfect. It was weird, but you never get the impression, really, that Jeff thinks now or ever thought he had a problem. Which maybe is the actual problem.

I still can't believe Jeff is on his third DVD or at least was and Jericho hasn't gotten one. Back on topic, Jeff had hope he can rat someone out or he is going away for awhile.
