If it gets rid of that infantile "OK, Blue Jays", I'd listen to a medley of Spice Girls songs during the 7th inning stretch.

Like it or not, Canadian baseball fans will be hearing God Bless America played during the seventh-inning stretch of each team's first home game.

Toronto's SkyDome will air the song during the New York Yankees game on Monday night, a Toronto Blue Jays spokesman said. Normally, Okay, Blue Jays is played during the seventh-inning stretch.

(....)

Reaction from Toronto sports fans came quickly.

"That's insane. We're not America, we're Canada," said Rob Groves, who was having a beer at Wayne Gretzky's bar on Blue Jays Way close to the SkyDome last night. "I would boo until my eyes fell out."

A Jays fan sitting at the bar agreed. "I'd boo. The anthem's one thing, but God Bless America is a totally different story," Sean McNamara said.

If Canada is playing a song near and dear to the hearts of (almost) every American during the 7th inning stretch, American teams should have to play such a song for the Canadians. At least when the Jays or 'spos are in town.

"And now, to sing 'God Bless America' and the Rush classic 'Tom Sawyer', here's Broadway superstar and Andrew Lloyd Weber corkboy Michael Crawford!!"

Who will be there to boo? Unless the Blue Jays fans are gonna come to games I don't think that alot of noise is going to come of this. Last year seeing games from Skydome on tv, all I could think was it must be Hallowen every home game because the fans came dressed as seats. It sucks cuz the Jays have a some really fun players to watch. Forget playing songs, get stripers and have free lapdance day, anything to get more fans there.

They really are opening a can of worms with this idea. I hope they don't booo but sitting through the normal anthem AND God Bless America (For the War) for the 7th inning stretch might be pushing.

But OK Blue Jay is annoying as hell, maybe it's because I have no co-ordination that they force everyone to exercise and literally stretch

I'm proud to say that both the American anthem and "God Bless America" were greeted with applause, and granted the proper respect by the unusually large crowd at the Skydome.

Too bad the same things can't be said about the morons in Montreal.
