WPIX-TV reports that Jay Mizell, better known as Run-DMC's Jam Master Jay, was shot and killed in Jamaica, Queens around 8 p.m. EST. No word on what led to the shooting.

Damn, this sucks. My thoughts go out to the rest of Run-DMC.

Also, this is the second tragic death this year that happened to a musician who performed at Wrestlemania.

They say it always comes in threes, and I can't think of a more unusual trifecta than Paul Wellstone, Richard Harris and JamMaster Jay.

This really sucks, by the way. Run DMC looked to be on the verge of a real comeback and everything.

This utterly and totally sucks. As a white boy in the burbs, RUN-DMC was my first exposure to hip hop, and the first time I realized that music not made by white guys with long hair, spandex pants, and guitar solos could be cool.

Of course, I'm not proud of it, but my first thought was "shit, he dies, but freakin P. Diddy and Nelly still walk the earth?!"

... why would anyone even want to kill him? It doesn't even make sense.

Yep, for me too, RUN DMC's "It's Tricky" was the first hip-hop/rap song that got me hooked. Just sad all over here.

"Jay's like King Midas, as I was told
Everything that he touched turned to gold
He's the greatest of the great, get it straight he's great
Claim fame cause his name is known in every state
His name is Jay, to see him play will make you say:
'God damn, that DJ made my day!' "

This hurt me so much. I can still remember the day in 1986 that my Godmother bought me "Raising Hell" on tape. I cant believe somebody would kill Jay. The man was truly an icon that helped define hip hop for me as a kid. He will be missed.

Rest easy, son.

In the last two years or so, the music industry has now lost George Harrison, Joey and DeeDee Ramone, Layne Staley, Aaliyah, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, John Entwhistle, Rosemary Clooney, Waylon Jennings and Jam Master Jay.

Eminem, Madonna, Puff Daddy, Yoko Ono and Fred Durst are all still standing.

Life sucks.

I saw three ships a-sailin', and they were all headed my way

He said his name was Columbus, I just said 'Good luck'. "

This sucks so bad. I even chose my signature after Jam Master Jay.

Celebrate his life by putting on Peter Piper and turning that shit up LOUD.

Thats what I'm talkin about. They played Run DMC songs on the radio ALL DAY yesterday. Great stuff. I remember back when I was a kid and my mom wouldnt let me buy the latest Run DMC tape (yes, I said "TAPE") because it said the word "Hell" on the cover. I think it was the "Raising Hell" album.

Back to the issue at hand though, I was dumbfounded when I heard what happened on the news. I dont know, I dont get too shocked when gangsta rappers get shot (I mean, it's sad and all, but DUH), but this one blew me away.

I cant think of anything to put here
I wish I could work the random images thingy.

Well, at least the music industry lost Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes. I mean I never wanted her to DIE, but goddamn she was annoying, as was/is TLC. Welcome the MTV's the CUT. I hated her.

Paul Shaffer and the band on Letterman gave him a nice little tribute last night by playing "Rock Box" going into a commercial break. Paul and Dave talked about the times they had Run DMC on the old NBC show...nice touch, I thought.

Eeeeexcelent choice for Number 1. "Breakin'" has been playing non-stop in my iTunes for the better part of the last week. I'm looking forward to hearing what The Music sounds like live.
