Apparently, Jake Roberts hit rock bottom during a local wrestling show in Ohio over the weekend, showing up wasted. He "wrestled" J.T. Lightning, who after seeing Jake completely no-sell everything due to his state, threw him down, pinned him and then berated him afterwards. Roberts responded by exposing himself to everyone in the audience.

Link to TMZ.com.

Very sad actually.

Didn't he just entered WWE-sponsored rehab a couple of months ago? I'm afraid that Jake may not be able to be fixed at this point, no matter what his friends and family try to do.

Two things came to my mind while watching the video:

1.) Having seen Heroes of Wrestling, this weekend wasn't even his LOWEST point, I'm sad to say IMO.

2.) As fucked up as his life is, Scott Keith said it best: it's still loads better than Hogan's at the moment. Heck, I would say it's still better than Flair's. At least Jake isn't dragging his family down with him like the other two are.

I would much rather be Hulk Hogan than Jake Roberts. Hogan could be getting six figure payoffs, Jake is getting three figure payoffs. Jake is a serious drug addict, Hogan is just a fame addict. Jake has no family to drag down, and Hogan isn't dragging down his family so much as they're dragging him down, not that he isn't complicit in how they got that way.

The show to me is also to blame for this, they knew he was in no condition to wrestle but allowed him to do so anyways.

What's funny is that Jake will get even more money to show up on these small cards now.

Per Jake's assistant, as quoted on Rajah.com, he was drugged by someone else!

That promotion sure had a lot of cameras.

What was with the manager attacking him after the match? Pre-scripted and they weren't smart enough to scrap it?

I agree that Hogan's definitely better off than Jake. Half the country probably knows nothing about his family issues and he's got gigs like hosting Gladiators to fall back on. And if he wanted to walk into TNA they'd give him every dime they could spare just to get some quick publicity. Jake will still get indy dates because of the train wreck factor, but at this rate it's only a matter of time before our next discussion about him has the RIP icon at the top of it.

Poking around in other places, someone who was at the show is saying that it was more like the manager trying to improvise at the last second, and nudge Jake into giving him the DDT so that the fans could at least get something out of it.

That's one brave guy then. I sure as hell wouldn't want to take a DDT from anybody at that level of intoxication.

Hogan is already getting six and seven figure payoffs without having to step into the ring. He's pulling a good amount co-hosting American Gladiators, he gets a ton from his VH1 "fake" reality show... And he's going to be hosting some sort of reality show about "hollywood" stars wanting to be a wrestler next month. Hogan doesn't need to enter the ring.

What were they supposed to do? These small shows aren't making money anyway, they've already given the "name" guy money upfront to be there, plus travel expenses more than likely. If they don't at least send him out there, the people who bought the tickets to see him are going to want their money back. They are in a no-win position.

I doubt it'll be more money, but he'll keep getting bookings, yes.

I have a wrestler friend who was sent out to the ring impromptu at the end of a Sid Vicious match because the promoter realized that Sid hadn't power-bombed anyone during the match and he wanted the fans to be happy.

That worked out much better than this though.

"Why are you here?"

"Power-Bomb me!"

"OK"

If by that you mean that this is some kind of work along the lines of drunken Scott Hall in WCW, I am suspicious myself. Iron Sheik has been doing something similar to build his "reputation" and get increased bookings.

(e.g. The Iron Sheik/Ultimate Warrior fiasco at a convention which was a shoot to the extent that no one told the Warrior what was going to happen and a work to the extent that the Iron Sheik and his handler knew that if the Sheik walked over to try and shake hands and talk to the Warrior SOMETHING was going to happen.

Warrior refused to shake hands or talk to the Iron Sheik who blew his top and started cursing out the Warrior and then the Sheik "beat-up" his handler who got between Sheik and the Warrior.)

What were they supposed to do?

Cancel his appearance & apologize. Just like any other act/show at any small, medium, or large arena would do and does happen all the time.

It wouldn't surprise me if this isn't some sort of angle in order to promote Jake Roberts. I guarantee you, if some small or medium size show books Jake Roberts, people will pay to see it. If Jake Roberts were booked next week on TNA, it would break viewing records on Spike.

I remember the days WCW would put Scott Hall in the ring intoxicated. Hey even Vince(WWE) allowed him(Scott) in the ring when the whole arena could smell the alcohol on him.

This Jake Roberts thing is sad, Hope he gets help.

Just like that time Playboy star SABLE sat in the front row of a WCW event! You could totally feel the momentum change at that VERY moment.

Seriously, the only person causing anyone to turn to TNA in droves is The Rock. An intoxicated Jake Roberts will bring in no new viewers, and turn off many.

Okay, so you don't understand how these little wrestling promotions work.

Just like a promotion for any sort of entertainment. Just because it's wrestling doesn't make it any different.

By the way, his opponent, JT Lighting, just also happened to be the main promoter to this event. Sounds like JT took advantage of Jake's condition to get himself some cheap publicity.

Or like some had suspected, this is all a work.

Have faith in Jake. He'll find a way to sink even further if given the opportunity. And, the most important thing about this is that no one was injured or died because of Jake's actions, which sadly is how a future Jake Roberts thread will probably be started.
