I think it was after they had announced on TV that Hogan vs. Flair would headline WM that Hogan decided he wanted to split and make movies. Obviously, they couldn't have him win the title at that point, and the WWF wasn't about to have the heel champion retain at WrestleMania. I don't remember there really being any storyline behind why Savage was given the title shot in the first place, except that with Hogan vs. Sid, UT vs. Jake, and Piper vs. Bret already in place he was the only guy without a program planned out.
Some real nice memories you guys reminded me, especially DJ Ran description of the Wrestlemania 8 press conference... Oh and that's a real cute story CDN Bulldog. You thanked him haha.
I remember after Wrestlemania V1 and Tunney's made a declaration that Warrior and Hogan can't wrestle again and his reasoning is that the WMVI match was so amazing so physical and so draining that he couldn't in good conscious allow these two forces to go threw that again... Whaaaaa? Even way back in the day this little pre Net Hack felt that was some screwy logic LoL
