Shocked to hear the news this morning. He stepped aside in July to fight this latest bought of cancer, I don't think anyone was expecting it to take him this quickly.

In a way it was shocking, but after the news conference last month, it seemed inevitable. It's sad that he won't get the chance to sit in Parliament after leading the NDP to its greatest result ever in a Canadian election.

It's nice to see Jack getting tributes from all sides of the political spectrum, even those who can't stand the NDP, just because he was likeable, charismatic, and passionate about Canada.

The country has suffered a deep loss today.

Sad day for Canada. I lived in Layton's riding in Toronto for three years and had nothing but respect and admiration for the man. RIP Jack

The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." --- Bart Giamatti, on baseball

Jack Layton's funeral will be broadcast live tomorrow on pretty much every Canadian TV network. I think it starts at 1:00pm EST.

In my department at work, we have some employees here on H1-B visas, and we always struggle to get the visas we need. However, it's not enough to justify the cost of setting up an office somewhere else.
