In a way it was shocking, but after the news conference last month, it seemed inevitable. It's sad that he won't get the chance to sit in Parliament after leading the NDP to its greatest result ever in a Canadian election.
It's nice to see Jack getting tributes from all sides of the political spectrum, even those who can't stand the NDP, just because he was likeable, charismatic, and passionate about Canada.

They can poll whoever they want. You somewhat answer your own question. Using your example. Say the poll says it's 50%-50% for the candidates. 50% decide not to vote. Guess what? It could be 100%-0% or (0%-100%).
