Is there a way in iTunes to tell it to not play a certain song except between Nov 15 and Dec 25? I need to set all of my Christmas music off for now, but I'd like it to magically pop back into the rotation when seasonal.

I'd also like to turn off all baseball themed songs except during the baseball season.

I'm pretty sure you can't customize a playlist by date - I'm guessing you're just playing your entire library on random, hence this "problem?"

Why not just deselect those songs in your library? The easiest way to do that is browse by artist or album and select everything but what you don't want playing. Then, if you want, you could just copy that selection to a playlist for "Non-Christmas time" and "Christmas time," or whatever. But I've never heard of restricting playing files in a date range.

My Christmas music is all over the place. I don't want to check and uncheck all the time -- I also have a lot of "skits" like on Eminem albums that I never want to hear again.

Didn't think they had this option... too bad.

yeah that and

for now, the only solution i can see is if you
make playlists, naming them "Xmas season" or whatever, so then when its that time of the year you play the playlist that has christmas songs on it along with the other songs, and when its not that time you play the playlist without the seasonal stuff.

how does that sound?

Close to my suggestion - put all the Christmas music into its own playlist, and then you can select that playlist and toggle on/off all the songs in it with a simple Command-click....err...or whatever the equivalent of "Command-click" is on the PC.

One more option - if you go to file "new smart playlist" you can tell iTunes to exclude a certain genre of music. This would mean you would have to go through and label all your Xmas music as such, if you don't already have the genre filled out, but that shouldn't take too long. Just select all the Xmas files, ctrl click (or right-click) and hit get info, and change the label.

You could also do this for those annoying Eminem skits, just label them all "skits" or whatever.

Okay, I got a message saying that FireFox 3.0.6 had downloaded and that I needed to restart my browser for the changes to take effect ... BUT, I was in the middle of doing something and decided to finish up before going through with the update.
