I apologize for making it seem that you said that. I didn't mean to do that. Saying you're going to leave the country is such a stupid thing to say (especially because no one who says that actually does it), and I wanted to point it out.

I love that one. Aside from the small problem that Christ wasn't a community organizer and Pilate wasn't a governor, it's great. At least when the Devil quotes scripture, he's accurate (if not always in context).

There is more evidence available about Pontius Pilate than simply scripture, since he was a historical figure. Judging by his Wiki, there is little doubt that he acted as governor of Judea, even if the word "governor" was never stated in the Bible.

You mean the interview where she didn't know what the Bush Doctrine was (thus putting her behind any kid taking a high school civics course in the last five years) or when she discussed going to war with Russia?

How is it that I am a good actor? What I do is I... pretend to be the person Im portraying. Youre confused. Case in point: in Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson comes to me and says I would like you to be Gandalf the Wizard, and I said You are aware that I am not really a wizard? and Peter Jackson said I would like you to use your acting skills to portray a wizard for the duration of the show. So I said Okay and then I said to myself Mmm.. How do I do that? And this is what I did: I imagined that I was a wizard, and then I pretended, and acted, in that way on the stage. How did I know what to say? The words were written down for me in a script. How did I know where to stand? People told me where to stand." -- Sir Ian McKellen, Extras

While this is just anecdotal...

I personally know three couples who have actively sought academic positions outside the U.S. based primarily on their desire to be somewhere else should the election go for the Republicans. One couple is already gone, and two are leaving by the end of the month. In fact, one couple has discovered that they are eligible for British citizenship and will probably pursue it once they get settled in Europe (if they can get dual citizenship, that is).

And so some folks don't get too excited - they are still voting for Obama via absentee ballot.

I can only speak for myself here.

1. Since I didn't know specifically what the phrase "Bush doctrine" referred to - and I consider myself kind of a smart guy who pays attention to things (but I am willing to reconsider that position) - it kinda came off TO ME like Gibson was just trying to trap her.

2. You REALLY think "going to war with Russia" is the only outcome there if Georgia had been in NATO? That's the kind of black and white thinking that gets people in trouble. I agree with Sarah Palin that democratic nations ANYWHERE are in America's (and the world's) best interest. I also think that things would have happened a lot differently if (x), (y) and (z) but the problem is politicians feel like they have to avoid the BEST answer, which is "I'm sorry, but you're asking me to deal in hypotheticals, so I'm going to take a pass on that question" - likely out of fear that people would pounce on such an answer as evading the question, showing "inexperience" or half a dozen other foolish notions - ah, but now I'M dealing in hypotheticals, so I'll stop.

IIRC, Article 5 of the NATO charter basically states that any attack on a NATO member is an attack on all NATO members, it was invoked for the first time ever after the 9/11 attacks. So, score one for Palin, I guess.

What was the question to Palin? What is it: IF Georgia was in NATO or was the question: What do we do now with Georgia and Russia? My opinion is that Russia did us a favor by showing us that we need to get out of Iraqi and soon, because more of these actions will keep happening. The entire planet knows we are locked into Iraqi and Afghanastain. We need to get those issues resolved now and not a 100 years from now. Georgia is also a very small piece of the puzzle even though they are now are third biggest ally in the Middle East region via soldier strength. So, it bears in my mind even if they were in NATO it probably won't have mattered since their President seemed to be poking Russia with a stick for some time now.

As for Palin's answer, its a black and white answer and shows her inexperience. Russia is going back to the bad old days and we have to use real diplomacy with them. We can not let another Cold War happen again. We were lucky the last time and probably won't be lucky enough again. Their economy is doing better then ours and while still feared by Europe, they aren't down hated by some of our former allies. The answer also walks right into John McCain's "Go to war with everyone" plan. If he is elected President, I really do fear that he will just do one hair trigger move after another til it leads to something worse. A good VP for him should be someone to help reign him in at times and not someone that is going to push his buttons to send troops into harm's way at every turn. Everyone screams about Obama's forgien policy being dangerous, McCain's plan seems more dangerous and easier to led to disaster.
