Not since Elizabeth and Macho Man divorcing has a wrestling breakup been "news".

So time to retcon that match last year to Miz & Maryse winning and Nikki & John deciding to part ways with a firm handshake and a publicist crafted statement.

They spent months on the will they wont they story arc in Total Divas / Total Bellas rode that all the to Mania where they beat a happily married couple who now have a child, They have been on and off tv since January. I don't know what was happening behind the scenes but it doesn't take over a year to get married. it was clear that Cena's life was never going to have room for Nikki. It's sad that their real life ended up like this but we can hold out hope that now Nikki can move on and be with someone who wont make her sign a document to live in a house with a bunch of insane rules and some who wants to get married and have kids with her.

most likely , still it's odd that WWE used that to shape the way the fans see Cena and Nikki's relationship, To the people who watch the E shows that is how they really are and that shapes how they feel.

Roman retiring the Undertaker at Wrestlemania 33 has been retconned out of existence.

HHH finally, after years of desperate attempts to get himself a big Wrestlemania moment, finally got his in the Rousey match, so we can officially wipe HHH/Reigns at 32 off the books, along with HHH/Sting at 31 and probably even HHH/Rollins at 33.

We can also probably just agree that Lesnar/Goldberg 1 at 20 was good instead of bad and eliminate that match from 33, and pretend that Cena proposed to Nikki after seeing Miz become a father this year, which means the only moments of lasting, necessary historical significance from the entirety of 'Mains 31-33 are:
    -Hardys Return
    -The Rock owns a flamethrower

SO we can all agree Dr Unlikely made this happen, right?

Although I want to note that I stand for and promote love, I have to admit, I admire Cena's continued interest in being an online mark and personally stepping in to help me with my ongoing side project of condensing all of WWE into a single, 10-year sliding scale time period by retconning as many recent years out of history as possible.

As such, I feel like we can now combine huge parts of Wrestlesmanias 27-29 and 33 into a single segment where Cena and The Rock had their only match ever together, which saw The Miz run in and get chased off by Nikki Bella, causing a grateful John Cena to propose to her, which he called off later in the same match. Wouldn't it end with Riley proposing, Nikki accepting, the wedding planned and on the day Cena would beat up Riley to take his place to apologise to Nikki so they could finally be wed?!

And maybe Nikki could then turn on him and marry Ziggler or someone?

I don’t know who this Alex Riley is, but it’s a damn shame Cena got divorced during the worst year of his life (last year) and I have to think that contributed to his recent loss to The Undertaker.

Wow, it's turning into dueling publicists now. First "sources" said Cena initiated the breakup, then "sources" updated that it was Bella instead. First Bella was heartbroken. Now another "source" is saying that Bella is doing fine while Cena is devastated. Geez.

I've gotta say no to this. As soon as you put the whole thing on TV, especially the proposal, you automatically forfeit that privacy. Y'all foisted the proposal on the biggest possible audience, at "The biggest stage of them all" -- one does not get to deactivate the publicity engine just by asking nicely.

I seem to recall a similar sounding statement regarding the divorce of Cena & his first wife. Not a problem. None of that was public or plotline, & they were entitled to privacy & "normalcy". But this is not that.

My guess on the Northern Lights Suplex would be that it was originated in Canada, since everyone trained from the Dungeon busts it out every once in a while. Could be just coincidence though...
