Truth of the matter is that Benoit walked out on that belt four years ago, while plowing another man's field. Sorry, but if I were Vince I wouldn't trust him further than I could throw him, so he can have his title shot, but at the end of the day, there's no way in hell he goes over. Which really makes this whole storyline seem trivial.

For the love of God. It's not the One Ring That Binds Them and Benoit has not been corrupted by it. What's more, he told them he was leaving and they still put the belt on him, then he told them was leaving but would drop the title and they just sent him home instead.

Belts really are sort of analogous to the rings in LOTR. You have the champion of the United States, the champion of all of the continents, the champion of all little people, and one belt that rules them all.

I do think that WWE would be foolish not to play on the fact that Benoit arrived in WWE just as HHH's star was rising in 2000, and that to accomplish the one thing Benoit wants the most, he's going to have to win the same belt he left behind to pursue that opportunity. Irony.

I'm disappointed that Benoit just left SMACKDOWN! the way he did. I would expect Benoit to show up on SD! at least one last time to say "Hey Man, either give me the chance to prove myself or I'll just go on the other show and take their belt," and put the ball in Heyman's court. Now, it looks like Benoit just decided to take off because HHH's belt was much more shiny.

Benoit does have a score to settle with Brock, and they could have resolved that and had him challenge HHH at WrestleMania, but it seems as if the "writing staff" changed plans when they saw how barren RAW's roster was of top faces. Not that I'm implying anything.

"the champion of all little people,"

Haha

"and one belt that rules them all."

It belongs to The Dark Lord and it's always wanting to get backs to him.

I too would've liked at least one episode of resolution in the Heyman/Brock/Benoit passion play.
"Hey Benoit you won the Rumble"
"Yeah I did"
"Well still no title shot, I made a super unbreakable rule about it"
"Dubious"
[crossface on Heyman]
[Brock comes out]
[crossface on Brock]
[taps like drunk man]
["you tapped out!" chant]
[shows up on Raw *next* Monday since it's the Law that the Rumble winner gets a title shot]

1) Kevin Sullivan booked his Benoit feud in 1995. Get over it.
2) Kevin Sullivan booked Benoit to steal Woman. Then Benoit actually fell for her. Bad luck. Dumb decision to book up & coming wrestler to romance your hot wife.
3) Chris Benoit got jerked around by the WCW office until he left in January 2000. He hasn't been jerked around for that long by the WWE...and he's getting paid much better, too.
4) So, unless Triple H chooses to book Benoit to steal his non-existant storyline wife...there's no reason why Benoit SHOULDN'T be trusted by the bookers. Bottom line: Benoit has good matches with everyone. Everyone looks like gold in the ring with him....even Billy Gunn, so why the heck shouldn't he be rewarded for that?

I would really like to see HHH book Benoit in an angle where he steals his wife. That would be classic. And we all know what the outcome would be.

But, I think I just jinxed it.

*sigh*

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Benoit walked out on his just-won WCW world championship to go to the then-WWF.

The title he's now scheduled to wrestle HHH for at WrestleMania XX is the "World Championship," not the WCW title, since that's absorbed-into-the-WWE-championship-around-Lesnar's-waist, or if you like, just plain defunct, along with the rest of the company.

I'll quote you from a couple of tiny mini-mags WWE put out in supermarkets last year:

Belts look the same, but don't represent the same championship. So technically, Benoit's going for a title he's never held before.

As for explaining the logic behind a sudden dropping of a Benoit-Lesnar feud for Benoit-HHH...search me.

Makhan Singh is headed in? Sweet!

Just kidding - I know you're actually referring to Kerry Brown. Or maybe Beef Wellington.

Actually, I was hoping for Mr. Hito or the Cuban Assassin.

I just noticed that the Canadian superstar content on Smackdown now is nil (nice timing in going to Saskatchewan next weekend) and Raw has what seems to be over 50% Canadian... TSN is doing such a wrestling corporate powerplay over little Score, Score is going to have trouble with CanCon with only referee Jimmy Korderaus representing the great white north.

smark/net attack wienerville advisory is lowered to YELLOW alert - Elevated (Due to Lesner still being champ, Benoit winning the Rumble, but HHH as champ is still a threat) 1/27

Get your WWE CD copy autographed by Stone Cold Steve Austin, Chris Jericho, Trish Stratus and Lilian Garcia after Raw... Oh MY! Christmas has come late. Can't get better then that.

They'll have Edge back soon, at least.

I have to think the WM main event payday would go a fair way to helping to make that be the case.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the best benefit of all of Benoit going to Raw.

Now, Eddy Guerrero gets a world title shot, too - and is in position to possibly be main eventing WM XX. (Just tell me Eddy/Angle at WM XX for the WWE Title doesn't excite you. ) If Benoit stayed on RAW this would not be possible, unless Geurrero won the Rumble and jumped ship. (but this would destroy the much hotter Eddy/Chavo feud. Benoit/Lesner can be settled later - in fact, age might make this one better, but Eddy/Chavo needs immediate attention to be effective.)

Good booking, IMO. In fact, I have almost nothing but praise for the WWE bookers lately. The did a *fantastic* job making the Rumble very unpredictable, (not to mention extremely exciting with all the intra-rumble fueding, setting up future fueds like Lesner/Goldberg, Benoit/Orton etc . . .

also, the ending of the Rumble, with all the "little guys" teaming up to eliminate the Big Show, failing, and Benoit using his technical brilliance and tenacity to overcome the size and strength ON HIS OWN was a piece of wrestling history that will be remembered for years to come.

I think WM XX is going to be phenomenal.
