Amen to that, CRZ.
And here's a couple of song lyrics for the day:
That Ain't No Rag, It's a Flag (Charlie Daniels Band)
Ragged Old Flag (Johnny Cash)
You're a Grand Old Flag (George M. Cohan) (and a .MIDI file embedded, too!)
Fly the Stars and Stripes proudly today, kids...and remember the fallen men and women who kept it waving free.
Star wipe, and...we're out. Thrillin' ain't easy.

And those of you who became uber patriotic and haven't taken you flag down since 9/11, please read the rules and regs reagrding proper flying and condition. Please.

Heh... I wonder how many people flipped out when they saw today's paper (local one), and taking up most of the front page, above the fold: A picture of flags being burned.
Below the fold, of course, they mention that it's about proper disposal of worn flags. That and the caption's "A Proper Farewell to Old Glory".

I was in Walmart last week and they had a promotion where you could bring in your old ratty flag for proper disposal and I think get a deal on a new one.
Edit to say I noticed a lot of people putting up flags at agencies last week have never been instructed how to properly fly a flag at half mast.

And it is really pathetic to boot. I have seen more than a few places with the US flag at half mast but the state flag at full mast. It took many of the local McDonald's franchsies until mid-week to get the memo. The Bob Evans restaurant near me put their flag back to full mast on Saturday after the funeral. It really makes me angry, but then again I was born in the birthplace of the flag.
God Bless Ronald Reagan, and may he rest in peace...

For decades, American had waged a Cold War, and few believed it could possibly end in our own lifetimes. The president was one of those few. And it was the vision and the will of Ronald Reagan that gave hope to the oppressed, shamed the oppressors and ended an evil empire . . . Ronald Reagan was more than a historic figure. He was a providential man who came along just when our nation and the world most needed him.
Fellow Americans, here lies a graceful and a gallant man. - Dick Cheney, 6/9/2004
Reagan had a rare and prized gift called leadership, that ineffable and sometimes magical quality that sets some men and women apart so that millions will follow them as they conjure up grand visions and invite their countrymen to dream big and exciting dreams.-Brian Mulroney, 6/11/2004 | cranlsn

My wife and both noticed the MANY flags that weren't flying at half-mast last week. Half the time it was because the establishments in question were being manned by teen-agers and no order had been given from their management to lower the flag.

And how about the jerks with the flags attached to their cars, that have probably been there since they bought them after 9/11 and now are ratty and torn.

If you have an all-weather flag, and have it lit at night, it's within the US Flag Code (USFlag.org) (which IS law, I believe) to fly it in inclement weather.

You won't believe (wait, maybe you will) how frayed some of the flags that I've seen are. At least my parents were smart enough to just get a sticker and put it on the door.
Which reminds me, I gotta ask why my neighbors were flying theirs upside-down for a couple of weeks...
