It is everything I hoped for. It's the sequel that's got just about everything and after an extended first play session, I'm ready to give it a major thumbs up! Things worth noting:

-The gameplay is largely unchanged, which is good. A few things are a little different, however. It is possible to occasionally slip and fall on your ass and certain moves now have consequences if you miss. For example, Luigi now lands on his head and is immobile for a brief moment if his rising punch completely whiffs. I have no problem with this, as it's not such a drastic change that it isolates newbies, but it's enough of a change that it forces Smash Bros. vets like myself to up their game.

-Final Smashes are awesome! Certain moves can turn the tide of a match, others are really fun to watch, and some (like Metaknight's) are both.

-The Subspace Emissary is long. Like, REALLY long! Like, "I played for 3 hours and am only 14% through" long! I mostly have no problem with it and it EASILY puts Melee's Adventure mode to shame.

-I was SHOCKED that Snake wasn't available from the start. I love Shadow Moses Island and all, but after being forced to play it 15 times to unlock Snake, I never want to see it again.

-The newcomers rule the universe! King Dedede is a lot of fun! Wario is a cool new addition and his motorcycle is just a blast, especially the close calls where I would almost ride myself off the cliff. I even had fun with the Pokemon Trainer. But no newcomer has the sheer awesomeness factor of Metaknight!

-Assist Trophies may be glorified Pokeballs, but that's perfectly ok with me. They aren't sure KO's, which is all you can hope for. And I marked out big time watching Will Wright construct a skyscraper underneath my opponent. One notable omission, though. Are you seriously telling me the EGGPLANT WIZARD wouldn't have made one kick-ass Assist Trophy?

This is all merely scratching the surface. I have yet to experience the Wi-Fi mode, the Classic Mode, the Stage Builder, and all the unlockables. I will be playing this game for a very, VERY long time.

Do you really need ME to tell you it's a Thumbs WAY Up?

EDIT: It's now Monday and I have failed in my attempt to get an online game going due to the dreaded 85010 Error. I definitely interpret this as a horribly overloaded server (since I was able to spend a good hour or so in the Spectator Mode last night).

I'm scratching the surface myself by only doing online spectating for coins and playing events. Thank goodness events mode is still there so I can get quickly acquainted with the characters and the stages. It's also a useful way to unlock goodies.

The gameplay is floatier than Melee. I'm also trying to get to grips with Link, my old Melee "main."

And now for things that suck so far:
- Loading times. The speedy feel of navigating the UI of Melee is gone.
- Timed demos for VC games. I'm not against trial periods, but...only speed-rushing through 1.2 stages of Super Mario Bros. doesn't leave me wanting more. They should've picked the Lost Levels instead.
- Error 85010 in WFC thus I can't Quick Brawl with anyone. From a cursory Google search it seems that WFC servers are overloaded. It's typical for almost any major release with online mode but it's sad nontheless.

This game is goooood. More to come.

EDIT: For anyone that wants to try "Playing With Friends" my Friend Code is 3394-3229-2955.

Like everyone else, I've onyl just started getting into it. But from what I have seen and played so far, this is goign to be a staple for a long, long time. If you own a Wii, this is the game to get.

I *had* to pick my boy Bowser first for some 1vs1 against the CPU. JALmam's point about "floatiness" is correct, although as a Bowser-user I'm somewhat used to that. I prefer to play with items off myself, but I had to levae them Smahs Balls in there. And let me tell you, you DO NOT want to get in the way of a GIGA BOWSER Smash Attack, as CPU Controlled Lucas found out.

I next tried out Meta Knight, who is exactly what everyone says he is; AWESOME. I might try King Deedee next, if only to see his FInal Smash.

I've added you, JALman. My friend code is 3780-8705-9732. The name may appear as "Nife" (sadly, El Nastio breaks the character limit).

W's with the Interwebs, Wii, and Brawl, may we enjoy many moments of SMASH.

EDIT #1: I also got the same error with trying to fidn a Random Brawl. I'd LOVE to play some of you guys though, and that shouldn't be to stressful on the WFC.

i've had the game for over a week now and it's just as fun as when I started. I have everyone unlocked now and I must say that Dedede is the most fun to play with. However, if you miss with his big jump, you are DOOMED.

Much like the Gamecube version, I have no damn clue what I am doing at any time. I press random buttons. Sometimes it says I won. Often, I don't know why. It's fun, though! My code is 3609-0724-7238.

Picked up our copy from Circuit City on Sunday afternoon, and my brother and I spent the next three hours wailing on each other in utter delight ...

Now (since everyone's pretty much verfied how awesome the game is already), I'm curious as to what controller setups everyone has going ... I wasn't going in expecting to use the Wii-mote/nunchuk combo (I had already dug the old Wavebird controller out of storage and everything), but my brother wanted to give it a try, and I figured I'd at least give in to a token couple of battles just to see what it was like.

I surprised myself with how much I actually enjoyed the combination ... Pressing the "A" and "B" buttons simultaneously for grabbing does (kind of) give you the sense of getting your hands on your opponent; actually, it's probably more like pinching them, but still.

The "Z" button is also in a good position for blocking (something that I actually had a problem with on the GameCube controller for Melee, but maybe that was just me).

Anyway, we've also just barely scratched the surface (haven't even delved into two-player Adventure Mode yet!), so I'm afraid all of our other Wii titles - still haven't finished "Metroid Prime 3" -are going to have to take a backseat for the forseeable future ...

I am using the Wiimore/chuck combo and it works pretty well for me. One of my friends imported a wireless vibrating classic controller from Japan and that was working well for him yesterday.

It has the look of a 360 controller but the layout of a PS3 controller.

I've been using the wiimote/nunchuck combo, mainly because I was too lazy to go open the drawer that the 'cube controllers were in... but I actually like it.

My SSBB Code is: 2535-3345-3592

I'm also using the Wiimote/nunchuk combo, mostly because the Wii isn't in a good position for me to use a wired controller. Still, I really like using the nunchuk.

This game is pretty awesome, even with some silly aspects (I HATE the home run contest). The adventure mode is great fun. I mostly use either Meta-Knight or Pit.

I LOVED The Subspace Emissary. For a story with no text outside of the character names, it was so random and so awesome. And, in my opinion, it was the easiest way to unlock all the characters. Now I'm getting hooked on unlocking all those pesky challenges.

{ Sorry, you must be logged in to see this text! } I'm very curious to play with the online...

ETA: And I use the Wii-mote and Nun-chuk. I really wish you could have two nun-chuks put together, or that the game used more of the motion control. Still, I love how its like a normal controller split in two parts, so you can hold your hands wherever it feels comfortable.

In case people don't know, one can go into options and turn on an option to activate smashes by shaking the wiimote.

I turned it on and turned it back off. It's too sensitive, for me at least.

I think that most of the motion control was not used because of the support for four different setups, two of which couldn't use motion control (classic & Game Cube setup).

Same here, except I never played any previous versions.

I've only played this for about an hour, but I like it a lot. There's just SO MUCH to go through. I sometimes feel like I'm a little too old for it, though. Not that it's a kid's game or anything, but I only know half the characters (I didn't own a Nintendo system between the NES and the DS/Wii) and a LOT of the gameplay seems too frenetic for my brain to process (especially when the camera pulls way out during a battle). I wish you could take a slower, more strategic approach to battles, but I know that's not the point of the game.

That said, I think I'm really going to enjoy working through SSE trying to unlock everyone. Then, when my skills improve, I'll think about venturing online.

And another thing, the game LOOKS gorgeous in 480p widescreen. I could probably spend hours in spectator mode just staring at all the cool stages.

The game can be a little overwhelming at first but you begin to get used to it fast. I had three of my friends over the other night who had never played and they were all impressed. They were struggling at first, but by the end of the night we were trading wins.

A cool trick that I found out: if you play as Snake on the Shadow Moses Island level against someone and you hit the taunt button clockwise, eventually he'll get a call on his codec giving strategy. The Colenol's advice on Jigglypuff is so great.

To add to that, try KILLING Snake during one of the codec transmissions.

OK, I'm venturing online now, since I'm THIS CLOSE to beating SSE. The last boss is a BITCH.

My friend code is 4639-8712-7622. My nick is STOMF, since I use STOMPH on other games, but Brawl only allows five letters. We really should think about putting together a W Brawl night. We could call it something clever like "BraWl" or something.

Oh, and I added everybody that posted their codes here.

Today's entry at SmashBros.com is pretty significant for followers of the Subspace Emissary, as it actually contains valuable plot points and explains them in great detail. For those who couldn't understand what was going on, but were curious to know, this entry should help exponentially.

Of course, now that I've read this, I still can't help but ask. Would a little in-game dialogue (or even TEXT BOXES) have killed them?
