"Shake things up a little bit"..Wht the hell is that supposed to mean..I mean wasn't vince russo introduced into the picture in WCW to "shake things up" and look at what happened?...It took them 2 years to perfect the "brand" seperation and now they want out of it. WWE ratings r gonna fall..thts for sure!...what do you think?
First off, I don't want to turn this into a "who did what to WCW thing" but I have to disagree that it was 100% Russo's fault that WCW came down. It was not a very stable company and it was headed to destruction with or without Russo. All I kept hearing about was "WCW wouldn't let Russo do this and wouldn't let him do that" hell he left or took a leave from WCW at one point or something. So all the crap that was on at the end of WCW wasn't just Russo.
Secondly, downhill? A little shake up is what it seems everyone has been asking for. They want new matches and feuds. How many more times can Heyman send out Show and A-Train to beat up people he doesn't like? How many more times can Bischoff and Austin argue over little stuff on RAW? Hell, I'm hoping they do a draft every year.
On a side note, I wish they wouldn't do it on Monday on RAW. That means we have to wait a whole another week to see a "new RAW" but we get to see a "new SD" that week. I think, just maybe a "WWE RAW/Smackdown Draft Special" on lets say Saturday night instead of Velocity/Confidential might just give a little ratings boost for WWE that night.
It's like a koala bear crapped a rainbow in my brain!
I thought Mania XX was great. If you think it was a sign of the demise of the WWE, then you're probably never gonna like anything the WWE ever does. So stop watching.

Maybe, but you're also gambling that people are going to tune in on a Saturday night at 10pm, not exactly an ideal time for a major storyline event.
Well, With the brand extensions they could have exclusive smackdown one month and an exclusive raw pay per view the next month. That would give them alot more time to sell a feud on each show. Which would inturn intrest people more and make them wanna watch both pay per views. Now temme how is that not gonna affect the ratings?

Don't they already do RAW/SD exclusive PPVs?

Or they could always just cancel Velocity and Confidential that night and just have it on at like 8 or something. But in dealing with the first post, no I don't think it's "downhill" for WWE. They will be a good thing.
Stewie Griffin: No sprinkles! For every sprinkle I find, I shall kill you!
I must admit that this lottey.draft idea is growing on me, it's just a shame that it's overshadowing Benoit's title victory.
I think that WWE had been in decline since the original roster split but has slowly improved and gelled together (which was obviously the intended plan). It's just a sham that the new 'shake up' is a result, storyline-wise anyway, of a Vinny Mac Power trip- it takes away from all the stabilty and bounds created by the split in the first place and leaves us all wondering if he is going to 'shake things' up whenever he pleases.
I hate to go back to it but since WCW's shakeups, as mentioned in the original post, fans have grown weary of these 'new starts'.
If the WWE wants to gain in popularity and strength from this latest idea then it will have to mix the greta storylines from the attitdue era with the telling-a-story style wrestling which culminated in a great Wrestlemania this year. What do you reckon?
IMO the only reason Vince did this was to even out the brands a bit and also to move around some dead weight in hopes of another Big Show type miracle.

They never said that they are going to stop the brand separation, they are just spicing it up so we can look forward to new fued. And I think rating will rise! Who woulldnt want to see a RVD/Angle match? Or a Orton and cena match?
I agree that this was done to even out the brands, and not to generate interest. With Angle, Brock, potentially HHH and Goldberg all out, the rosters are not balanced.
While this may screw Benoit and Eddy over somehow (hopefully not stripping them of their belts), I take this as a good sign that WWE will actually try with these two, because this shake-up is being done to give them new and fresh opponents at the top of the card. So, I see this as evidence that they're going to get behind them.
Of course, I wish he chose a different method of going about it. With an event as strong as WrestleMania XX, there are tons of interesting stories that exist already, such as the Christian/Jericho feud and Benoit's first test as champion.
Hogan and Bischoff ruined WCW long before Russo got there. Nash, too. After making it so successful, they thought they could get away with anything. They were wrong.
All down hill? I don't think so. Hell, we've all been bitching about how we want new superstars, new rivalries, yadada yadada... It's like Vince has been paying attention to the fans, and he wants to keep them happy. Both at Mania and this week on RAW he's been very thankful to the fans for supporting the WWE, hell, he's been almost humble. If Vince wants a fresh start for the WWE because the fans want a fresher WWE, then great. Let's see where this ends up before we start crying that the sky is falling.
So sayeth Randy Stilton, the real Stinky Cheese Man!

Exactly, they're not trying to get out of the brand extension, there will still be two brands they are just putting different people on different shows. And the fact that "It took them 2 years to perfect it" just means that they know how to do it now and will do it right from the start this time.
If you look at the top four champions right now I don't think you could ask for a better four. Eddie Guerrero - WWE Title Chris Benoit - World Title John Cena - US Title Randy Orton - IC Title
SO tell me something, where would these guys be without the brand extension? Nowhere, all four of these guys would be far from getting where they are now. So I think the brand extension has been fabulous and having some refreshing angles and storylines will make it even better.
Cena vs Orton and RVD vs. Angle are good ones. How about Mysterio vs Jericho? or RVD/Booker vs. TWGTT? Eddie vs Jericho? Edge vs. HBK? Christian vs. Cena? Big SHow vs Hurricane?
i doubt they will be strippin benoit or eddie of their titles. the just ended the biggest show ever with them embracing holding the belts high. if you think wwe is gonna take that away a week later then thats stupid. it would make mania make 0 sense.
Fuckin' rights, I already got half a fuckin' buzz on
A re-shuffle is needed as everyone on Raw and Smackdown has faced each other excluding a few. It needs to be done once a year BUT I don't like the idea of title stripping but you know someone is losing a title or Vince would have said it. Please not Benoit. Just imagine The Recordbooks (in 10 years time) CHRIS BENOIT Former WWE and WCW Champion Total Defences: 0
When I heard this on Monday I had a much bigger problem with it then most. I think it's because I view the roster split as something really important for wrestling. Let me explain.
When WCW went under the biggest problem that will effect WWE is that they will never be able to grab an established WCW star and inject him into the WWE even if it's a mid-carder(see: Jericho, Jarrett) it breeds new life not just to the wrestler but a buzz in the WWE... Now it's people who's been out of site since the split(see: Steiner) or OVW and Indy guys that can be stars in half a years time but as a quick hit of interest there is no way they can.
What does this have to do with the Draft this monday? Everything. I view the roster split as one thing and it's not "competition between the brands". What the brand split does is allow somewhat to redo the sole advantage of having WCW as competition. Insert an established wrestler in new surroundings and hopefully give a jolt of interest to the wrestler and more importantly to the brand he's in... A real good case in point is the Big Show who was losing to Booker in 3-minutes in cage matches and losing to Jeff Hardy and became a major force on SD. Maybe even a better example is Matt Hardy when he went from Raw to SD(not now). It allowed him to get on a complete totally different scene and the change of character is more easily accepted because it's a fresh start.
That's why I have such a problem with this, after Monday Night you lose that. You lose the ability for the foreseeable future to have people switch brands and have it mean a damn. After Monday it's going to look once again you are just watching a diluted split squad roster with no real image or identity... This is just instant gratification on Monday. It's a quick fix that you're just reshuffling the deck. This is the true definition of one step forward, 5 steps back. If they are going to do this just quit the brand split and just have some angles take place on one night and some angles on another and lets end the charade if you easily hit the reboot button every time you feel a little stuck.
