http://www.wwe.com/article/emma-released

Emma has been released by WWE.

Probably the best thing for her. They seemed determined to not use her properly, ever since the first time she was called up from NXT. And I might be in the minority, but I liked her latest entrance music.

WWE hardly ever releases anyone the last few years. They never do on a Sunday. They likely would not of had her push Asuka in matches two nights in a row if she was going to be gone this weekend. There's probably another shoe to drop.

It's as a good time for Emma to leave as any. She did have those matches, she has been on TV featured a lot more regularly, and WWE giving her a "women who complains a lot and is on social media too much!" gimmick suggests they were not happy with her and this is about as far as she could hope to go. Just, the timing of this makes me suspicious that everyone won't be on Emma's side when more details come out.

Is it release day? WWE has updated that article to include the releases of Darren Young and Summer Rae.

Emma was a good hand but was just outshined by the Sashas and Charlottes of the company. She deserved better, but I can see her doing like Cody and doing better outside of the company.

Darren surprises me just because he could have been such good PR for the company and they did nothing with him.

The writing has been on the wall for Summer for a while. Judging by the Halloween photo/video shoot she posted the other day, she is suited out of the PG WWE world and into the racier modelling world for sure.

As a fan, the saddest thing to me is that "I started the women's revolution" never got us back to another Emma/Paige match - well, for several reasons, but still. I always liked Emma and thought they should have done more with her. She had such a great viciousness in her matches. But the company always seemed like they hated her, and after those Asuka matches, I agree that she's in the best possible position to go elsewhere at this point.

He always seemed, to me at least, like he was uncomfortable being the PR face of the company. They had him do a few bits, but he always came off like he'd rather be elsewhere. I can think of at least a few reasons why this might be.

I thought Emma's role as talented enhancement talent was a little sad, but something you need to have a successful division of any kind. I never would have guessed she'd be gone before Paige, but here we are.

Makes me wonder if either WWE didn't want to do too much PR for an open gay guy or if he refused to (which makes perfect sense. I'd hate to be the 'token gay guy' )
ANyways, as a wrestler/performer he never set anything on fire. So I can see why he gets released.

They never really used Summer Rae other than 'sidekick' so no loss there, though I did like her back in the day in NXT.

Emma. It's a shame, she had so much potential back then as a face. But they ruined her next to Santino.
And then the second run as heel Emma could've been great but nope. She's never more than a bit player and Emmalina was pretty much the nail in the coffin of any chance she'd ever go anywhere.

Impossible. I'm sure she could do okay on the Indies but not anything close to Cody or anything close to what she makes now. There just aren't the same opportunities for women. NJPW doesn't have women wrestling and ROH has the women of honor but it's not really a full blown TV role. It's also probably a safe guess that women probably don't get paid as well as men at the indies that do have both. Money isn't everything though so hopefully she'll enjoy more freedom.

Read it and weep, fella

Summer Rae is no surprise, I guess. I liked her, but she hasn't been on TV in months (injury?) and Alexa Bliss is a 300% better version of that character anyway.

Darren Young is kind of a surprise. Also hasn't been on TV for awhile, but they seemed really high on him once upon a time. Also surprised because he has a good look, seems semi-educated, kept his nose clean, AND is a Person of Color. I always assumed they intentionally kept people like him around as brand ambassadors (Titus, Henry, R-Truth, etc) and to show signs of diversity.

(SIDE NOTE ABOUT DIVERSITY: Today's WWE roster may be the most racially diverse it's ever been, no? New Day, Sasha, Naomi, Alicia Fox, Titus, Apollo Crews, Uso's, Cedric Alexander, Rich Swann, Kalisto, Akira Tozawa, Asuka, Shinsuke Nakamura, WWE Champion Jinder Mahal, Singh Brothers, I'm sure I'm forgetting someone.)

Really surprised about Emma though. Nothing about her stands out (which is a nice way of saying "She's not all that 'good' at anything in particular"), but she was JUST on TV last week! And she was on TV every week before that! Wonder what happened there.

Ariya Daivari. Mustafa Ali. Arguably, Sami Zayn. And since you mentioned the Usos, I suppose you should probably throw in Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe. Oh, and Nia Jax & Tamina. And Mickey James.

Incidentally, this year Naomi became the first black wrestler to ever win a title at Wrestlemania. Prior to that, only two black wrestlers had ever successfully defended a title at Wrestlemania, The Rock and Jazz. And why I'm on the topic, the first black wrestler to ever get a pinfall/submission victory at Wrestlemania was Butch Reed, who defeated... Koko B. Ware at Wrestlemania III. (Junkyard Dog won by countout at the first Wrestlemania and Mr. T was on the winning side of the main event but Hulk Hogan picked up the pin.)

Sawyer Fulton from NXT is gone too. He was the guy in Sanity who got hurt early on and replaced by Killian Dain. I'd embed the tweet where Meltzer said "Injuries are not your friend" but I'm lazy so just pretend I did that.

    Sami Zayn. And Mickey James.

I know Sami has some Syrian descent, but he's about as non Middle Eastern looking as someone can be.

What's diverse about Mickie?

Mickie James is part Native American. Enough so that she was inducted into the Native American Music Awards Hall of Fame.

I don't disagree about his looks, but his parents immigrated to Montreal from Syria in the 1970s. He's first gen, all-Syrian heritage.

I get the impression that Sami is proud of his heritage, and rightly so. That often makes people who do that a heel so he is probably in the right position in the WWE, but not outside of it with 'normal' people.
