Isiah Thomas is so committed to removing Shandon Anderson from his life that he is willing to give him $24 million not to play basketball.

According to a Knicks source, Thomas informed the veteran guard not to report to work come Monday, the first official day of training camp. That move would appear to be a first step in negotiating a buyout agreement with Anderson, who has three years remaining on his contract worth $24 million.

Without going into details, Thomas seemed to suggest that Anderson will remain on the roster but would not be welcomed around the team. In the meantime, the Knicks will continue to explore trade possibilities for their unwanted player.

Did Anderson do something to make himself so unwanted? It seems odd that Isiah would just ask a guy to go away for no reason as opposed to having a guy pull a Keyshawn on him. Especially given some of the guys the Knicks have *cough*VinBaker*cough*.

Anderson is one of the few remaining Jeff Layden refugees, while Vin Baker is one of the diamonds in the rough found by Father Flanagan, I mean Isiah. Thus, Vin (who has sucked the past few years) can do no wrong in his eyes, while Anderson (who has sucked the past few years) will get shown the door.

It's SCOTT Layden but otherwise you're right on the money.

What happens if Shandon says "Screw you guys, I'm not gonna accept a buyout"? He's still under contract, so he must still be allowed to travel with the team, right? And if Zeke denies him that right, people from the Player's Association are gonna ask why, and Isiah had better come up with a better reason than "Scott Layden signed him".

There isn't anything Shandon Anderson has actually done wrong, right? He hasn't choked his coach or become an alcohol abuser or carried an Uzi into the locker room or anything, has he? Seems to me that Isiah's just being petty, but it doesn't really come as much of a surprise to me. Isiah doesn't know how to treat people, and that's why Jalen Rose got traded to Chicago.

All the Knicks would have to do is outright release Anderson if they really don't want him around. The difference is that with a buy-out, they can get some of Anderson's money off the cap in future seasons, and while he won't make all of his contract, Anderson gets the money up front and can sign with another team, so theoretically he could come out ahead.

How stupid. What's at stake? Let the kids have some fun, let the parents and friends not be bored to death, get blown out, and maybe learn how to play a little better while you're at it.
