The heels like JBL and Kurt Angle have ultra conservative views, while the popular faces like Eddie Guerrero and John Cena are on the fringes of society. They also have a black man, a white man, a Frenchman and a Japanese guy all vying for the US Title.

WWE capitalizes on what's popular right now. It wasn't that long ago that Scott Steiner was the pro-war, pro-Bush face. And still to this day, La Resistance and Rene Dupree are heels just because they're stereotypical Frenchmen.

"They also have a black man, a white man, a Frenchman and a Japanese guy all vying for the US Title."

That's less "liberal" and more "not ridiculously racist".

Once upon a time in China, some believe, around the year one double-ought three, head priest of the White Lotus Clan, Pai Mei was walking down the road, contemplating whatever it is that a man of Pai Mei's infinite power contemplates - which is another way of saying "who knows" - when a Shaolin monk appeared, traveling in the opposite direction. As the monk and the priest crossed paths, Pai Mei, in a practically unfathomable display of generosity, gave the monk the slightest of nods. The nod was not returned. Now was it the intention of the Shaolin monk to insult Pai Mei or did he just fail to see the generous social gesture? The motives of the monk remain unknown. What is known, are the consequences. The next morning Pai Mei appeared at the Shaolin Temple and demanded of the Temple's head abbot that he offer Pai Mei his neck to repay the insult. The Abbot at first tried to console Pai Mei, only to find Pai Mei was inconsolable. So began the massacre of the Shaolin Temple and all 60 of the monks inside at the fists of the White Lotus. And so began the legend of Pai Mei's five point palm exploding heart technique.

I think it's all just about their "rebeling against the machine" gimmick that they've tried to give every face ever since Austin vs. McMahon took off. Ever since then, faces are always given this badass aspect to their personna that's supposed to relate to the part in all of us that wants to 'escape the rules'. If they find it's working, or need to help get someone over (Bradshaw) then they make the heel someone who represents 'the rules'.

As far as Steiner being for the war. I don't remember that. I don't remember any part of that feud, that bodybuilding contest, or that debate where he said he was for the war, and I'll kill anyone here that makes me remember watching it.

Other than that, I'll just say that the WWE has always put the troops above all else, and done it the same way that a true American Hero will always be the face (Steiner needed help getting over, so they have him basically say "USA! USA!" until it works). While I agree with their support 100%, I do think that for their own good, they could learn how to seperate the troops from whatever war they're fighting.

After the HHH/Steiner feud crashed and burned, Steiner left and returned to oppose Chris Nowinski's pro-Iraqi views by being insanely pro-Bush. They had a couple matches, then both fell off the face of the Earth. This was about the time that La Resistance debuted on RAW.

Tribal beat me to it, in concern to Austin-McMahon. It's really just an underdog situation that's used when writers aren't creative enough to dream up a new way to make fans care about cheering on the new hero.

Agreed. And if you're looking for social commentary in the US title scene you could look at the fact that the white man is the face and the black man, Frenchman, and Japanese man are the scheming heels. Then again, I choose not to look for such commentary in these things.

Can't we all just look at wrestling for what it is...ENTERTAINMENT. Stop analyzing every damn thing. There have always been different types of characters in every sort of entertainment and in no way WWE is promoting a liberal America. They are promoting themselves with a wide variey of characters. Get it CHARACTERS?...

Where's the LEX EXPRESS when we need it?

This is all a ploy to get JBL some cheap heat by calling Barney Frank a "dirty homo" on worldwide television.

Aye, the two easiest ways to push a face are the
rebellious gimmick (as has been mentioned) appealing to the people's patriotism(as has also been mentioned).
That is the only reason they do that, because they need to further their characters and they cant think of many more ways.

I mean, Tajiri just chanted "U.S.A" for a moment with the crowd and he got incredible heat the likes of which he hasnt had in a while. America, as anyone from another country will tell you (cause I've asked) is probably the most patriotic and nationalist country in the world (Im not saying its wrong, cause Im very patriotic and nationalist myself)... its just the simplest way to appeal to the crowd who also appear to like hearing the name of their town on loudspeakers.
