| #1 Posted on 22.10.02 1228.45 | I didn't watch the show last night. Actually I don't think I've watched RAW all the way through for quite some time. But I can't help but thinking, is this rabid controversy between fans the reaction WWE and Vince McMahon wanted to start from with last night's show?
Its sad really, because RAW has some great wrestlers on it, but the WRESTLING on the show constantly sucks shit. In fact, i can't remember the last time there was even a great RAW match period on ppv (probably Shawn/HHH at summerslam). Smackdown is usually a solid show with that seems to consistently have great wrestling on it, but is smackdown! being so good to us the price of the shittyness of RAW? I tell you if the ratings go up for RAW again...that will be interesting to say the least.

| #2 Posted on 23.10.02 0931.23 | Fortunately, they went down. I don't know what they're trying to do, but I think Vince is going about this all wrong. Around Summerslam, things were as they should be, ratings were climbing a bit but now, cheap shock tactics? Seriously. Someone with his "acumen" would know better than cheap tricks in this day and age, right?

| #4 Posted on 23.10.02 0950.11 | First of all, I agree with you about the quality of matches over on RAW. They have diminished a bit. But I would attribute it to the wrestlers just being unmotivated. Think about it. You're wrestling on a show that features maybe one or two storylines for the entire midcard. There's only two championship titles on the show and unless you team up with someone, you know you don't stand a chance in hell for the World's belt that HHH is holding. So, you're just out there putting on matches with no story behind them and the fans don't care too much. They just pop for your big moves. Well, that's my thoughts on that.
As far as what Vince wanted as a reaction, I think the guy is so obsessed with the motto of "bad press/reactions/emails are better than no press/reaction/emails". He wanted all the emails that I'm sure people sent after Monday's show. He wanted people to write stories and reactions on their websites. He wanted things at Titan to go nuts behind that segment.
So maybe if people would stop resonding to his 'cheap shock tactics' at all, whether positive or negative, he'd take a hint.

Well, how much mainstream coverage has this controversy received? The only thing I've seen is viewer reaction on various websites and the press release on the WWE website. I believe that the goal was to get the mainstream media to jump on this and have people tuning in to what the fuss is about it. Unfortunately for them, it didn't work the way the WWE had hoped, and in turn has alienated quite a few long-time loyal fans. Hopefully, the negative reaction and lack of press will be enough to convince the WWE to abandon tactics like this, because I do not like the direction this is going.

| #6 Posted on 23.10.02 1044.47 | I think Vince McMahon and the WWE need to realize that its not 1998-99 anymore. The internet doesn't think their lewd smut and shit on tv is entertaining anymore, and there is no more controversy to get people to tune in. People aren't going to shell out 40 dollars for Miss Kitty's breasts on PPV anymore. Face it, sportz entertainment is dead. What WWE should be doing is trying to keep what loyal audience they have left, and build themselves back up to their next eventual peak. But if they continue at this rate, it will be a long time before it happens again.
This split angle cannot continue. Its just not working because Smackdown! is usually very good and RAW, well RAW just sucks. Why does it have to be that way? Why can't both be good? And why don't PPV's have that bang for their buck anymore? Especially when the price keeps going up.

But do you wonder how many angry emails, snail mail letters that haven't reached their destination and phone calls they might have gotten over this?
You're right about the news media though. Not a peep. Maybe Vince should do a sniper angle to siphon off some coverage. Seems that's not too far out of his league these days. | fuelinjected

| #8 Posted on 23.10.02 1214.36 | | He also needs to realize that his hardcore fanbase, the ones who have been watching from atleast 1998, are now 4 years older. So many of the 16-17 year olds he picked up are now in their 20's and have likely outgrown the lowest common denominator 'humor'. | Ringmistress

It took Vince over 5 years to realize that the little kids he was marketing to in the mid-late 80's had started growing up.
I want you to know, I agree with everything I've just said. |
