I was doing a web search for my local MyNetwork affiliate when I came across
http://www.economyhdtv.com/

Is it just me, or is this simply a indoor TV antenna that lets you pick up the digital broadcast channels, intended to take advantage of people's confusion regarding HDTV?

Only $5.99 per month! (Plus $140 Installation Charge + $25 Per TV! Or $100 deposit for Self-Installation! Or you can Own it for only $299.99!)

Am I wrong to be offended by this? Could it be illegal?

Scam. Illegal, no, not even close. Just crummy and to be avoided.

All UHF antennas receive digital channels (when ran into a digital tuner, of course). Some do a better job than others, and most cheap rabbit ears, unless you're very close to the towers, are fail. But a UHF antenna from 1980 is just as good as any.

All of those channels appear to be over-the-air, so any antenna meeting the criteria above would be good for them. Given that buying it outright is $299.99, for that cost you can get a roofmount that would kick the ass of this piddly thing that probably beats most internal antennas but is overpriced in comparison to competing models.

That is absolutely ridiculous. Talk about preying on the ignorant...

Here's a perfectly decent $30 indoor antenna that picks up all of my local stations just fine, and I'm 30 miles from the towers.

If it makes you feel better, not only can I not get a job but my motherboard fried itself and took my processor with it. [/typing in school lab on Spring Break]
