Since last night, my screen has been flickering (for lack of a better term) on me. I've checked the connections and they're all in properly, I don't think i've done anything lately either to mess it up. Although I notice after I degauss the screen, it stops. It happened a second time before I started on this post.
anyone know what could be wrong, if any? I mean i've got a 3 year old hp here, so I know she might not last for much longer especially with all the stuff I do on it.
I can't quite describe the flickering, but it first gave me the sense that a connection was loose. kinda difficult to describe it from there.
it's set to 75Hz so that can't be the problem. My speakers aren't anything fancy, just regular computer speakers. it happened again when I got home. I disconnected and reconnected it to the video card when I got home today and haven't had the "flickering" problem. maybe something was just interfering there.
oh well. for now it's okay.
one additional question though, ever since I got this computer 3 years ago, everything seems to come out darker here than on other computers. i've tweaked all the settings and stuff and it's still that way. is taht a problem with the monitor or the video card? when I get a chance, i'll have to switch this monitor with the one in the living room and see if it's any different. although any input on this would be nice.
Check to see if your video card has settings for brightness, contrast, and gamma. If it still looks dark on a known good monitor, then you may want to adjust those settings on your video card to get an acceptable picture.
If the other monitor looks good right away, it might be an issue with the old monitor. Check the settings on it.
One other thing that I've seen cause interference is a cell phone. Nextels are pretty bad in my experience, and can put a flicker on the screen and make an audible clicking noise on your speakers.
Willful ignorance of science is not commendable. Refusing to learn the difference between a credible source and a shill is criminally stupid.
I was going to mention the cellphons too! But I thought it was just me, because it only happened with our first (i.e. REALLY OLD) models.
As for the darkness on the monitor, you can also check the "temperature" settings on the monoitor.
If you have on screen display of your settings, it'll usually be listed as temp or temperature or a graphic of a thermometer. There's usually 2 or 3 different settings in there that might help the darkness if you're unable to adjust gamma on the video card settings.
edit: spelling---that's what the checker is there for.
I know it can't be the cellphone interference, since i've had that happen before and know how to identify it. it hasn't acted up since I reconnected it, so maybe I fixed it.
aside from the brightness, I messed around with this adobe gamma control pannel that came with photoshop and it brightened things somewhat. I still have to tweak it more, and hope I don't mess up my monitor completely!
And to pile on, just a mere four years ago there were folks valuating MySpace at somewhere around $5 billion. $5 BILLION to $35 million in four years (probably means that $5 billion was a little off)... A $65 Billion Valuation for MySpace? (blogs.wsj....
