Is it time to bring home the approximately 60,000 American Soldiers that have been with their brave Canadian and British brothers since 1944 home from France? Why have them in a place that doesn't deserve them.

Breaking News: In a preemptive military strike, the French Government has announced it has surrendered 2/3 of France, and will move back to Vichy.

Couldn't agree more, and bring them home from Germany, South Korea, etc. Their continued presence doesn't serve any constructive purpose. If Europe (and Korea) had to begin worrying about protecting themselves some of their policies may change. With US protection the Europeans have been able to pursue their socialist and multinational utopia. They are like the proverbial teenager. It's easy to be rebellious and naive when your parents are feeding and taking care of you. It's time to let these countries fend for themselves, especial since it's been made clear US troops aren't wanted.

I think redsoxnation was talking about the ones buried at Normandy...which is a different matter.

But...yes, bring the troops home from South Korea, from Germany, and from everyplace else we won't fight a war anytime soon. Don't need 'em there, don't want 'em there. If the ROK wants to be so chummy with the PDRK, let's see what they think when we check out.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism.

My bad, indeed I'm sure he was, I misread the post. I saw the headline for the thread and just got a little carried away. Reading things first is always a good thing. Ha ha.

I definitly think the troops in Germany and France should be brought home. If they want to lead so badly- let them. Part of being a leader is taking care of your own.
Though it would be interesting to see just how fast the United States is accused of "Doing nothing!" when a crisis occurs where our military might would be useful. It is a classic "damned if you do, damned if you don't" scenario.
Pulling out of the UN is also a move I think seriously needs to be considered. The UN is a pathetic joke, which only exists to pat everyone on the back and say "you are important!" The US has no buisness belonging in an organization where we (of all nations) can be tossed from the Human Rights commission, Where IRAQ is leading Disarmament, where LYBIA is leading Human Rights, and where once great, now second rate nations can veto items against all logic.

NATO, on the other hand- while it is worth considering pulling out, I think a better answer is booting France and Germany out. They STALLED a request by a member nation for help in defense because they don't want the US attacking Iraq? Regardless of whether you think initiating an offensive is right or not, when one of your supposed allies is threatened, and you are part of an organization that pledges mutual defense, you do what is needed. The proper response from France and Germany would be "We do not approve of a conflict against Iraq, but should one break out, we will defend out friend and ally Turkey to the best of our ability." No one said that NATO troops in Turkey would necessarily have to be used offensively...

As far as the vetrans buried in Europe... leave them there. They died there on the field of battle, they were buried there with honor by a grateful nation. It dig them up and drag their dishonored corpses home just because you are annoyed with the nation in which they are buried is the ultimate in disrespect... I mean, France was good enough for them to DIE for, but not a good enough resting place for them?

I have no use for the UN, so pulling out of it would be fine. While at it, kick the UN out of this country.
South Korea: Screw us, well, screw them. They don't want U.S. troops around, fine. We'll bring the 37,000 home. I just don't want the South Koreans crying for help the day after the U.S. troops leave and North Korea is bombing Seoul.
Germany: I'll give them a pass here. For some reason, a Germany against war is usually a good thing.
And in terms of bringing home our dead soldiers, it would be a far greater insult to the French than it would be a disgrace to the memories of the soldiers who died. The reason the soldiers died was to defeat Nazism, which was accomplished. It'd be a greater insult to leave them in a country that doesn't remember the past than to bring them back where they belong.

Correct me if I am wrong... but who cares where the bodies are?
They are buried properly and in a dignified manner. WE have a holiday, Memorial Day, where we pay tribute to their memory, and express gratitude for their service. There are memorials everywhere in this country which pay tribute to their service. America is definitly very proud and honors their fallen troops highly (well, nowadays). I think the disposition of the "bodies" at this point is irrelavant. Their spirits are likely in a better place, and their memory is cherished by their countrymen. Nothing more is required.
Not to say that our LIVING troops in countries where they are not needed/wanted should not come home... wuite the opposite...

Not that restraint when posting in a "public" forum isn't a good thing...

Has as much chance as reinstating the draft. Kerry didn't win because he is a twit. His excuses help prove that.
