I would bet that the secret ingredient will be some sort of fish but please no more lobster for Flay.
The entire 10 episode battle schedule can be seen here (foodnetwork.com).
Profiles of the challengers can be seen here (foodnetwork.com)
I'm looking forward to Flay vs Ming Tsai on 1/30

Quite frankly, I wouldn't mind seeing him get humiliated by both Bayless and Ming, although a Ming-Morimoto battle would have been much more entertaining and much better tasting. I'm really looking forward to seeing Mario Batali and hoping that the suits at FoodTv will remember how good he really is since he's one of my personal favorites and has been relegated to obscurity recently in favor of eye candy like Giada and, ewww, Rachel Ray.

If besmirching Rachel Ray and getting some essence in the eye would allow me to repeatedly BAM Emeril with a small, say 8 or 10 pound, maul, I will, loudly and continually, besmirch Rachel Ray.

That's me with Sakai. He won so much that half the time I swear that the 3rd reviewer, the food critic, was sleeping with him. :-)
I don't watch the network enough to feel strongly about anybody except the original Iron Chefs. I did see the clips of Flay vs Morimoto during the Iron Chef America week and that display at the end was just a bit much.

I would love to see my man Alton get in the kitchen. Good Eats is my favortie show on all of TV.

Anyhow, a little on Roberto Treviņo who goes against Batalli in two weeks. He's been in the island over 11 years and heads the group of "in" resturants in the Old San Juan area called SoFo (for South Fortaleza Street). Dragonfly (asian mixed with latino) and Parrot Club (straight PR and Nuevo Latino) are the first two restaurants he worked with, but where he showcases his talents more is at Aguaviva, a seafood restaurant with a mix of PR, Nuevo Latino and Mediterranean cooking. I've personally eaten at all 3 restaurants and they are really wonderful no doubt, but Iron Chef quality...I don't know, but we will wait and see.
As for the secret ingredient: --tried spoiler tag won't work...any moderator help please.

Bayless is amazing, though if they were going to get someone from Chicago, I would have killed to see them get Charlie Trotter into the stadium and see how he holds up.

Technically, if they want to appease both FoodNetters and IC purists, Alton being in Kitchen Stadium would make a great allusion to Hattori going up against the IC (Sakai?) during the show's run.
That, and Alton would also have to eventually be the Chairman for the show, since Hattori did take over for Kaga for at least one show.
I'm still not going to spoil it, but I can't wait for the season's special ingredient coming up in about six episodes or so. I'm giddy about it. | dunkndollaz

| #13 Posted on 18.1.05 0913.37 | Instant Rating: 7.00 | Rick Bayless got jobbed. Loved watching Flay run around like a maniac and I was hoping that the ruined mango chutney was going to have some impact on him. At least they made Flay work with something other than Lobster. I can't wait to get to Chicago so I can try Rick's Frontera Grill.
Overall good show with the exception of Julie Chen. She can't report the news, she can't host bad reality TV shows and she can't judge food. I am looking forward to Batali's first battle.
