Here's my starting lineup for the Sporting News Strat-o-matic Historical teams...these were drafted from some of the great teams in history....

Frank Chance, 1b
Jackie Robinson, 2b
Mickey Cochrane, c
Goose Goslin, lf
Stan Musial, rf
Pete Rose, 3b
Jimmy Dykes, ss
Dom Dimaggio, cf
Pitcher

All my 8 have at least a .315 BA and .393 OBP

Starting pitching 4:
Early Wynn
Bob Welch
Vinegar Bend Mizell
Mark Langston

Closer:
Goose Gossage

We are 2-1 to start, winning our first game 15-0...

Your thoughts?

Mark Langston?

Did you pick these players via draft, salary cap or what?

I wouldn't expect Langston (an above average modern era pitcher) to be high on someone's want list, if you have 100+ years of history from which to pick.

It's Langston of 1984:

17-10
225 ip 188 hits
204 k 118 walks
1.36 whip

Plus, he starts every fourth day (important to my rotation).

We drafted with a salary cap, yes. $80 million.

Example: Babe Ruth, about $12 million.....

Langston was $4.3 mil

What's whip? It's a stat I have seen with increaing regularity in recent months but have been unable to figure out its meaning.

EDIT: Just a guess that just came to mind...is it walks plus hits per inning pitched?
