Here's my starting lineup for the Sporting News Strat-o-matic Historical teams...these were drafted from some of the great teams in history....
Frank Chance, 1b Jackie Robinson, 2b Mickey Cochrane, c Goose Goslin, lf Stan Musial, rf Pete Rose, 3b Jimmy Dykes, ss Dom Dimaggio, cf Pitcher
All my 8 have at least a .315 BA and .393 OBP
Starting pitching 4: Early Wynn Bob Welch Vinegar Bend Mizell Mark Langston
Closer: Goose Gossage

Did you pick these players via draft, salary cap or what?
I wouldn't expect Langston (an above average modern era pitcher) to be high on someone's want list, if you have 100+ years of history from which to pick.

It's Langston of 1984:
17-10 225 ip 188 hits 204 k 118 walks 1.36 whip
Plus, he starts every fourth day (important to my rotation).
We drafted with a salary cap, yes. $80 million.
Example: Babe Ruth, about $12 million.....
Langston was $4.3 mil

EDIT: Just a guess that just came to mind...is it walks plus hits per inning pitched?
