This may not be news to you, but McDonald's Double Cheeseburger was pulled from their Dollar Menu, a casualty of today's economy - which is ironic, because I keep expecting that deflation actually means that prices go DOWN.

Its replacement, the McDouble, is a double hamburger with one piece of cheese - in other words, a double cheeseburger with half the cheese.

This is probably nutritionally better, as the lower amount calcium is easily offset by the lower amount of fat. (Maybe?)

Anyway, what's truly funny is Mickey D's felt they had to issue a McDouble vs. Double Cheeseburger FAQ (apps.mcdonalds.com) to prove that they were "listening." Listening to who? Just how many cheapo fatasses are out there, exactly?

Me, I'm sticking to the McChicken to satisfy all of my cheapo fatassery needs. And the Cheesy Double Beef Burrito at Taco Bell.

Read it and weep, fella

Why not just remove the one slice of cheese from the DCB? Weird.

I'll stick to never ever eating at McD's, thankyouverymuch. Carl's Jr. is closer (and way better) anyway.

The only reason this is not news to me is because I saw the memo for it two months ago (Oooo...insider info)

Also truly funny, the look on people's faces when you try to explain this nonsense. ("So, can I still get the McDouble with an extra piece of cheese for a dollar?")

I'm loving it.

I have already foiled this anti-Americanism by McDonalds by buying by before-work double cheesburgers from HARDEE'S. Better taste and it's actually 99 cents rather than $1, meaning I can get one free 2blchz every 108 days.

That's the only thing I get from Taco Bell- usually two of them per stop. Damn they are good.

And Jack in the Box counters with a Jumbo Jack, 2 tacos, and fries for $2.99. I still say the JJ is the best of the cheapo hamburgers.

EDIT: While we're on the subject of menu weirdness, can someone explain why BK's breakfast meals now come in small, value, and medium sizes, with the small being more expensive than the value, despite being served in smaller portions?

I actually took an online survey about this a week before it showed up on the menu. It was e-mailed to me by Harris or e-rewards...one of those outfits.

Lots of questions about the name, pricing, should they keep the double cheeseburger on the menu WITH the McDouble, etc..

So...apparently the extra slice of cheese was costing them money, but not so much that they couldn't afford to hire a consulting firm to get public opinion on it before hand.

Regrettably, there was no "this is stupid" option on the survey.

When I went a couple weeks ago, they had the Double Cheeseburger at $1.19

The thing about Today's Economy, is that McD business is one of the few getting stronger.

Yes and no. They haven't experienced the brand growth and profits they had projected.
