This weeks Impact really wasn’t a strong show I don’t expect them to give too much away on Thanksgiving, but I would have liked to see a better show with a lot less Eric Young zaniness. Hey at least we got a break from as the Bischoffs turn, but sadly Karen Jarrett was all over the show. Karen got more airtime than Roode for some reason. I did like that we got two lenghty matches, but this show was a still a bit of a step down in quality from the last few months.
The opening segment was fine as Angle cut a fine heel promo and Storm came off as a bad ass and cunning as he took a shot at Angle after Ray, Jarrett and Daniels came out and then bailed. We of course got our usual brawl fest between Rvd-Styles-Anderson and Ray-Daniels-Jarrett. The segment did leave a few questions as to why Jarrett and Angle who have feuded for years are aligned and is Daniels now part of Immortal? It was not a particularly strong segment.
Last week Mexican America Vs Crimson and Morgan was not a bad match, but it was just a squash match this week. I do like that Morgan and Crimson did use numerous tag team maneuvers in the match. Mexican America looked like total jobbers and last I read Hernandez’s contract was coming up soon, so I hope he’s on the way out as he adds nothing to the company or with Anarquia. The tag team division in TNA has never been in worse shape.
Karen Jarrett’s promo was as screechy as ever. I do find it funny that Velvet and Tessmacher had such problems with wrestling in their lingerie considering how they are presented. It makes sense for Tara to have an issue with dressing like that and wanting to just be a wrestler, but Tessmacher’s promo saying that was funny. I mean not that I’m complaining about hot women in lingerie on my tv, but this week felt like a step back from last week in the treatment of the knockouts, who BTW bring in the highest quarter hours nearly every week.
The Knockouts match did get a good amount of time and was a pretty solid match . Earl Hebner was involved in ref incompetence again rolling out of the ring like an old fool for no reason. It sure seems like someone really likes making him look like a complete fool.
Jeff Jarrett’s promo on Hardy was pretty solid and he drew good heat and really everything he said about Hardy was true. The whole thing just led to another pull apart brawl, and then eventually a heel beat down. Jarrett beating down Hardy served it’s part in giving Jarrett some heat in the feud and taking Hardy out and giving the heels in the elimination match. The segment would have been much better if there was some women hysterically screaming throughout the bet down on Hardy. Man she was screeching all night long, but none more than that segment.
Robbie E Vs Eric Young was total crap and I can’t imagine who finds this crap funny. Poor Rudy Charles returned to this crap. I will say Rob Terry did look funny wearing the turkey suit. I do think it was a mistake to show the history of that stupid match because you got to see A.J Styles looking like a goof in that suit.
The eight man elimination was a terrific match. The in ring work was very strong. I didn’t like the the fact that the teams names were Team Storm and Angle as neither guy wrestled and you had the world champ and the #1 contender in there. I do like that Roode pretty much brushed it off when Tenay asked him about it. I like that Roode came out on his own after all the heels on his team came out and that he sat at the broadcast booth because he claimed he wasn’t warmed up. I really liked that he ran out to get a pin on Anderson who Ray had beat as it makes him look like a selfish bastard and a long wolf heel. I have no issue with him getting intentionally dq’d as Styles had gotten the better of him and he stated all he cares about was the title and defending it. He is just an awesome heel and I loved him taking out Hardy and Styles to end the show. I would venture to guess that Hardy will get the next title shot after Styles. I really liked Daniels pinning RVD as it gives hm something new to brag about. I didn’t love Hardy being the conquering hero in the match, but Styles was booked to look strong during the match too. The match and Roode beating down the faces was a strong end to the show.
All, in all not a great show until the main event which was a strong twenty minutes and a good ending. There was a good deal of EY and Karen Jarrett crap to wade through before that though.
What were they hoping to accomplish with a Survivor Series style match the week of Survivor Series? Either it is a blatant ripoff or they are trying to be snarky and show how you are "supposed" to do a Survivor Series match. Either way it is bushleague.
It was a holiday show, so I liked the Turkey Suit antics.
Its interesting that nothing major went down on Impact this week. A couple of years ago Bobby Lashley won a number one contender's tournament on Thanksgiving. (Not that that was ever cashed in on, of course.) Last year Dixie showed up to put an injunction on Hogan to keep him off of TV for a few months.
I was okay with the turkey suit antics 2. as far as the knockouts not being okay with being in the thong thunder match well karen explained that when she tells em 2 cover up they dress skimpy and when she tells them to be in that thong thunder match they complain.
I think Hernandez is staying with TNA just bc of the TNA-AAA affilation and feud. As I said in my impact spoilers post Roode ruled the roast last night with his awesome heel act. Taz needs to make up his mind whether hes a heel announcer or face one minute he;'s praising roode the next hes getting on a heel.
Apparently, at least from what I read on the Torch (which I won't link to in order to save all of you from seventeen thousand pop-ups related to Acaii berry weight loss scams), it was the schedule that was the ultimate deal-breaker.
