If you're checking this thread for a Kurt Angle update -- they re-run his No Surrender promo; no live appearance. At the end of the show, Cornette announces that Angle will be the "Ringside Enforcer" for the Sting vs. Jarrett match.

Lance Hoyt vs. Jeff Jarrett: Hoyt is out first, but he's ambushed from behind by Jarrett -- in street clothes -- and he whips a hapless Hoyt from pillar to post. After disposing of the Texan (no contest, I guess), Jarrett cuts a promo about how he blames all of the fans for the whipping he got at No Surrender. Oh, also, he'd like the title belt -- the one that Joe took off with after their match -- back.

Here's a clip of the Bound for Glory "Press Conference." Cornette announces matches: Monster's Ball with Abyss, Raven Runt, and Samoa Joe (Wubba huh?). X Div. title re-match between Senshi and Sabin. And, of course, Sting vs. JJ, title vs. career.

Austin Starr promo -- Starr is in full Jesse "The Body" Ventura mode here. We'll all be Starr-struck at Bound for Glory!

Samoa Joe vs. Raven: After some one-upmanship piefaces, chops, and punches, Raven hits Joe with a chairshot. As Joe recovers, Runt runs in and takes out Raven with a chain-assisted neckbreaker. Joe, not knowing what just happened, locks in the Coquina Clutch and Raven taps.

After the match, Runt joins Joe in the match; Joe tosses Runt over the side and onto Raven. Here's Abyss; Joe kicks him out as well. As Abyss and Raven scuffle outside, Joe takes off -- Cornette intercepts him, trying to get the belt back. Joe tells him -- if Jarrett wants the belt, he -- or Sting -- can come and get it.

More "Press Conference." Rhino says that his BfG match with Christian will be an "8 Mile Street Fight" -- anything goes!

Team 3D vs. Vaughn Doring and Brandon Thomaselli: Doring is the big guy from the No Surrender. Thomaselli looks like a cross between RVD and David Young. This is a squash.

Ray cuts a promo re-introducing themselves -- the crowd chants "welcome back." Ray says that 3D could get a title shot if they wanted one, but he wants them to earn it -- starting at the bottom and working their way up (DitR, get ready to job!). Good -- this gives 3D a story while leaving them out of the crowded title scene for now.

"Press Conference": Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell put over Sting. Lex Luger looks like he might be auditioning for the straight-to-video sequel to Sideways. Buff would make a lousy Paul Giamatti, though.

In the back with Borash and JJ -- and Eric Young. JJ gives Young one more chance and assigns him the task of retrieving his title belt from Joe. Eric turns down this opportunity and Jeff storms off. It slowly dawns on Eric what he's done.

Paparazzi + Senshi vs. the Jackass Boyz (Sabin, Dutt, Lethal): Crowd chants "No More Jackass." I think there's a match somewhere there in the background, but mostly this is pure background to a Christian rant about his upcoming BfG match with Rhino. Oh, speak of the devil.

After commercial, Rhino and Christian are brawling -- they're pulled apart and we return to the match. Yep, there it is. It breaks down, with everyone running in and hitting spots. Wait, there's a suitcase in the ring?! Crowd BOOOOOS heartily. Devine picks up the suitcase and then gets kicked and pinned. West refers to this as "Jackass-styled antics," but -- a suitcase? I don't get it. Nothing flew out of it or anything. It should've been filled with rabid marmots, or something. This made NO SENSE AT ALL, and if it HAD made sense, it would have been STUPID.

"Press Conference": I called it! -- LAX is challenging Styles and Daniels for the belts in a 6 Sides of Steel match.

And Cornette's in the ring with Bagwell and Luger. Cornette makes the announcement that Kurt Angle will be the "Ringside Enforcer" for the Sting vs. Jarrett match. JJ comes out, trades barbs with Cornette, and ends up tossing both Luger and Bagwell out of the ring -- Samoa Joe comes out and starts trading punches with Jarrett.

And there we go.

DISCUSSION TOPIC: What parts did Russo book?

Oh lord, my WCW sense is tingling. If this ends in anything but Kurt turning heel on Sting (the stupidest scenario possible) in a "SHOCKING SWERVE~!~!~!", I'll be very surprised!

TEN YEARS AGO IN WRESTLING HISTORY: SEPTEMBER 1996
WWF: Shawn Michaels d. Mankind at Mind Games, one of the 90's best matches. Also, some guy named Steve Austin made it his personal mission to bring Bret Hart back to the ring.

WCW: The nWo prevailed in War Games with the help of a Fake Sting. The real Sting walked out on WCW, kicking off one of the biggest angles in the company's history.

Whaaaa? Why the fuck is Joe in that Monsters Ball match?
At that moment, he had no beef with any of these guys right?
Guess they wanted to put him in a match asap to show he won't be too involved in the main event (even though he has the belt ofcourse..)

LAX-Styles/Daniels in a cage should be brutal.
And is it me or are they already leaning heavily on gimmick matches for the ppv? What is this? WM22?

This show really seems to be one of those "it's right after a ppv, we need to tread water while we start up new feuds" type of shows.

Russo booking? I say the erh...I have no idea. I often find TNA's booking kinda random and insane.
It would be too easy to say the Jackass thing, right?
I do feel he will be booking the shocking swerves~! that will surround the main event at the ppv.

*sigh* Why bother?

This Kurt Angle ringside enforcer deal is resembling Bret Hart being at ringside for the Sting/Hogan match.

Even the most marketable stars can be killed by bad booking.

If Russo booked the show, I couldn't tell. Except maybe the impotent jokes.
And even though the enforcer role is kind of a lazy, I understand why they did it. They want him on the PPV, but he can't wrestle yet. I think maybe a shoot promo might be a better idea, surprised Russo didn't think of that.
Anyone who is concerned about Joe being booked in the Monsters Ball should relax. He is walking around with the belt, and it was the main story on the show last night. It makes one believe that he will be involved in the world title scene after BfG. A lot of people don't like the idea of Sting vs JJ, but they have been building to this match for almost a year, which is impressive. Whoever wins this match will be dropping it to Joe at some point. I just think they held off until they went to prime time and built on their audience.

So the five bouts signed for BFG are all, essentially, rematches. SHouldn't they be putting something a little more original out for their version of WrestleMania?

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

Exactly what I was going to say oldschoolhero. This is your biggest show of the year and you're going to pretty much do the last ppv, which wasn't even great, all over again. The Monster's Ball doesn't make sense. Yeah Joe is stil in the main event and has the belt that's great, but it just doesn't make sense to suddenly tack him on to the Monster's Ball. If they really want Joe in a match other than the main event then at least give him a one on one match and build it up as a dream match or something. I have no desire to see Senshi vs Sabin either, Senshi vs Joe would've been a good idea instead (I know they've probably wrestled lots of times other places but it would be a first time in TNA at least). The LAX/Styles/Daniels and Rhino/Christian are ok because they have good feuds going on, but these both should be the match that ends the feud, and LAX should win.

I'm glad to see Aries back at Bound for Glory though. If they'd dump Devine and put Shelley in the X Division along with Aries, Senshi, Sabin and some others then they could actually make something of the X Division again.

Joe should be the special enforcer for the JJ and Sting match. What the hell is he doing in that Monster's ball match? I could maybe see him wrestling Runt because Runt attacked him but I still wouldn't want to see that match. It would be Runt bumping and Joe destroying which is not a PPV match in my mind.

I'm not happy about Angle being involved in the title match because I honestly believe that should be Joe's spot. The staredown at the end of the match with the winner would be an amazing thing to see.

Christian vs Rhyno: I hope this is a good match. I'm not feeling the story for some reason probaby because I'm not a fan of Rhyno. He has done some good stuff in this feud though.

Apparently the part of the show Russo booked was Joe playing keep away with the world title from Jarrett. It's almost like TNA is using Joe to stand-in for Sting since Sting isn't around.

TNA basically shoved Joe into the Monster's Ball match for no reason since they had no idea what to do with him for Bound For Glory after deciding to make the world title main event match Jarrett vs. Sting. Still a shame really.

-Joe needs a match to keep momentum for if/when they put him in the title picture.
-Abyss, Raven & Runt need somebody to lose to.

I would mark out like crazy if Joe mows through everybody and inserts himself into the title match.

EDIT: Jumping off of ekedolphin's statement below, it seems like they're trying to tell us that Samoa Joe's just that much better than everyone else in the main event.

They're trying very hard to go for a Starrcade '97 vibe here, with Jarrett playing the part of Hogan, Angle playing the part of Bret Hart and Sting playing the part of... well... Sting. But unlike at Starrcade (dang, was that really nine years ago?), I can't say I particularly care whether Sting wins or loses here. At least he made occasional appearances between pay-per-views in '97, if only to point his bat at Hogan and beat the crap out of the nWo from time to time. Here in '06, I find myself questioning whether Sting is really committed to TNA-- or maybe TNA's too dim to realize that, y'know, it's probably a good idea to have your #1 world title contender show up once in awhile to do something.

They should've made this match Jarrett vs. Joe for the belt.

Sting isn't committed to TNA. He really just turned out to be another old guy getting a paycheck.

He said he wasn't going to come in and push people aside. He said he was going to give back to the boys and the business. And he's pretty much done the exact opposite.

Sting isn't going to defend the world title overseas. He's not going to defend it at house shows. And he's not going to have great title defenses. He only does the bare minimum amount of work. And this is one of the only times I can recall that the challenger of the world title match disappears to go on vacation before the big bout. To me, giving him the world title at Bound For Glory seems to be the most ridiculous idea ever. It feels like it's Wrestlemania 14 and WWE decided to put someone other than Austin in the main event spot.

Is this really a guy that deserves to be the flagship of the company?

Sting's whole run in TNA has been pretty much nothing but Jeff Jarrett. They missed two fine opportunities to have him feud with Joe and Christian Cage. Which is what this whole year has felt like with Sting, nothing but missed and lost opportunities. Now Angle is coming in, who TNA will have replace Sting pretty quickly.

-Joe needs a match to keep momentum for if/when they put him in the title picture.

And now that TNA has ultimately decided not to pull the trigger on him here where it would've been perfect and exactly what they were building up to, and with Angle coming in, I don't see that ever happening. Since they failed to pull the trigger on Joe at the opportune time like they have for so many others, I feel it's not going to happen anytime soon. Once Angle comes in, he will get everything on a silver platter.

Also, to me, this is not a BFG worthy match. Joe vs. Abyss or Joe vs. Cage would've made a lot more sense.

-Abyss, Raven & Runt need somebody to lose to.

Then I would've much rather have just seen Joe vs. Abyss.

This really just feels like, "sorry Joe, we're not sure what to do with you right now, so here you go for the moment."

To be fair, there are a few ways that this could go. Assuming they can get Sting on board with it, they could easily set up Angle screwing Sting (duh) to be a fued for a month or two from there, solidifying angle as a heel, in theory at least. At the same time, have Joe utterly dominate the Monster's Ball match, and turn it into a #1 contender stipulation.. then have Joe go on to dominate Jarrett and lead to a long term build up fued of Angle vs Joe. This assumes that Angle's body doesn't break down more than that Sting and Jarrett will play along, but I think this would be the sensible way of going out of this to build up major fueds for their trip to prime time while also building up a flagship fued for the future.

TNA at times seems like they may not be smart enough to do the simple setup like this though.

I thought this was a well-booked show, and the only true low point was Jarrett's inability to play the champ-in-trouble. I was rotting for him here; I wanted him to hold up his end of the bargain for the build-up to Bound For Glory, but he just can't do it. He's just bland. It certainly seems like a foregone conclusion that Jarrett's reign is ending, but the how is the trick. Does it go to Sting or Joe?

I think Joe loses in the Monster's Ball match. I think he needs too. We've already seen an undefeated Joe beat Jarrett and walk out with the title. And we just saw Joe beat everyone in the BfG match, so that match has no hook. A defeated Joe has something to prove, and the audience gets a reason to watch because otherwise it's a foregone conclusion he wins the belt. And that's boring.

Brother Ray is sadly big again, and the impact of his return is lessened. I like the angle of them slowly working their way back up the ranks, and TNA now has legit ranks to work through. It gives TNA time to book the titles with the two top teams, maybe work in a short feud with another team and then move the belt to 3D.

The presence of Buff and Luger helped strengthen the legacy of Sting and make the BfG match seem hefty. It is my wish and my hope, and I believe the right thing to do, to bring him back without the Crow look, and I would advise them to have him wrestle simply as Steve Borden. The promos have teased a split from the Crow gimmick, and that makes for some nice intrigue for me.

The last tag match was sdaly underwhelming, not just for the last match but considering who's involved. Sabin does nothing for me, and Lethal has shown his entire moveset. I'm on record as calling Sonjay the MVP, and he deserves to carry that X belt for a time.

What about Roode's manager? Does Russo's WCW connection bring in another alum? Ernest Miller, anyone?

I'm becoming increasingly dissapointed that it seems like Alex Shelley has to lose every single match he appears in. At this rate, he's going to end up another David Young, and he deserves better than that.

At least Devine is usually there to eat the pin. Nevertheless, I see your point. Shelley is totally one of the guys they could be building the post-Styles/Daniels/Joe division around, and I was pretty sure they were going to, but I guess Jackass (YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME A SUITCASE!!!) takes priority.

(I think that the Jackass gimmick could actually work if done better. It's given Sabin a personality, miraculously, but it's more like "lame Jackass wanna-be" than "outrageous Jackass stuntster.")

I have actually dug Sabin's personality too, he's got kind of that slacker look and was pretty good in his backstage segments when Lynn. Lethal isn't horrible too, but man Sonjay Dutt looks absolutely ridiculous trying to act hip.
