| #1 Posted on 4.8.06 0522.25 | Instant Rating: 8.00 | LAX vs. Jerelle Clark and Chasyn Rance: Holy God, talk about lambs to the slaughter. Hernandez kills Jerelle with the Border Toss (Crucifix powerbomb, I guess -- more of a throw that sends the guy halfway across the ring) while Homicide destroys Rance with tha Gringo Killa. Ooh, man, I hate it when the ref counts simultaneous pins using both hands. ONLY ONE GUY IS LEGAL.
After the match, Styles and Daniels appear on the video screen. Styles is wearing a NECK BRACE to sell the Gringo Killa he took two weeks ago -- that's pretty awesome. They all call each other bitch!
The Naturals vs. AMW: Nothing-much match that pushes two parallel angles: The Naturals are Franchised, and AMW are having "communication problems." Here's the thing: Maybe it's time for AMW to take a break -- they're such a dominant team, it's tough to keep them out of the tag title scene for any length of time -- but what can they really do with Harris and Storm as singles? I can't see them doing anything but foundering in the midcard, and there's enough guys doing that already.
I still think the Nats make shitty good guys. I do!
Jay Lethal vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. Petey Williams vs. Alex Shelley vs. Frankie Kazarian: Winner gets a shot at Senshi's title at Hard Justice. Before the match, Senshi him self has a little video promo where he talks about each of his opponent individually. This is pretty great, giving the audience a quick introduction to a group of un-gimmicky (some might say boring) group of Xers that make up the next generation of the division.
The match is fun, with a wildly goofy four-man-Russian-legsweep-conga-line-and-a-dropkick spot. Jay Lethal hits some diving top-rope headbutts but then walks RIGHT INTO Petey's Canadian Destroyer! You know, I really like the Destroyer when Petey walks forward as he hits it, like he does here. His forward momentum makes the move a little more believable -- moreso than when he stops short, gestures, and then hits it.
So Petey will take on Senshi at Hard Justice -- and he'll lose, of course. Could Senshi be the first guy to kick out of the Destroyer? (I don't think anyone else has, right?)
For the MAIN EVENT, Cornette holds a meeting. He's very to-the-point, and makes three matches for HD in short order: Brother Runt vs. Abyss (I'm predicting a Black Hole Slam through a table covered in thumbtacks!), Monty Brown vs. Rhino vs. Joe (Falls Count Anywhere!), and Bentley and Kazarian vs. The James Gang vs. AMW vs. The Naturals for a Tag Title shot. I think all three matches sound worth watching.
He also makes a match for next week's Impact: The Paparazzi + Nash vs. Lethal, Dutt and Sabin. Cornette says something about Nash's tongue hanging out like a red necktie, trying to keep up with these guys. See, in three seconds, Cornette's zinged Nash more than Sabin's ever been able to.
Finally, Steiner and Cage enter the ring, and Cornette books another match for next week -- see, both Steiner and Cage want to be present for the JJ vs. Sting match at Hard Justice, so they're going to have to fight each other next week. Cornette suggests that the loser might not be able to make it to HD, but it doesn't seem like there's an actual stipulation involved here.
Then Christian gets ambushed by the banned-from-the-building Jeff Jarrett, who's in the crowd dressed in a Sting mask and a red hoodie. I totally didn't see this coming because I'm a complete idiot.
Angles, angles, angles, some good-sounding matches booked, and one pretty fun if inconsequential match. I'm looking forward to a two-hour show under the perhaps naive impression that we'll get more wrestling out of it.
You?

I am surprised he cuts such good promos, he didn't speak like the 1st 6 months he was in TNA, so I figured it was for a reason. I can't wait for the Christian heel turn to cost Sting the belt. It seems inevitable, Sting just trusts him too much all of a sudden.

Probably not. I was hoping Nash would beat Sabin, then go after the X Title and they would put over Low Ki, but Low Ki won't sign a contract because he doesn't want TNA booking his other indy shows for him. So it looks like they're going to have him drop the title to Petey.

Chris Johnson reports that Senshi is indeed signed to a long term contract with TNA and is not going anywhere.

He wont sign the rights of Low Ki over, thus he renamed himself Senshi. And as for Joe not doing a promo for 7 months, Goldberg didn't do one for a year. Not saying Bill promos as well as joe, but it's a similar situation. Builds up until you want to hear him speak.

As far as Low Ki, I wish they would do more with him, I was jacked when they signed him. I really dug him when he was there in 2003, he had some of the best matches in TNA history. But now, even though he is the X champ, he is not really a featured player. And he needs to stop wearing Jim Duggan's ring apparel.

I really dug this show for a lot of reasons but chief among them is the pitch-perfect Konan LAX gimmick. He finally has a stable that can back up his latino revolution rant he was using back in WCW. LAX is a fantastic monster heel team, and I believe Hernandez call kill a man with his throws. The only weak spot I can see with them is the four-way contender tag match at the PPV. Whoever wins gets the tag champs first, but that would suggest no rematch from the LAX/Daniels and Styles PPV match. That's a feud that could last for months and is a better match-up than either team versus any of the other four teams. And again Konan is just right on the mic.
While I like Williams' finisher, he doesn't seem to have any other moves. I worry about his chances as a contender.
I love love LOVE the old-school NWA push for Roode. He's sold as a modern-day Dr. Death with a Rick Rude robe, and that combination is golden. Now he just needs a better finisher than a spine clothesline.

Same here, my friend. The vignettes suggest a strong resemblance to the "hot free agent" angle of Randy Savage back in the WWF 80's.
My money is on Traci Brooks being his manager. |
