Sting and AJ Styles arrive together in Sting's car, a bright yellow convertible with doors that swing up. AJ tells Lauren that he's here to work. Kip James shows up and asks if Sting needs his car parked; Sting tells him he shouldn't be parking cars. (Maybe this will lead to Sting "passing the torch" to Kip James at Bound for Glory!) Sting and Styles leave, and Kip tells Lauren that he used to have a car like that. "Really? When?" asks Lauren. James: "When I was over." HA HA! Best Kip James appearance ever.

Suicide vs. Samoa Joe: Match is very brief -- D'Angelo Dinero comes out and he and Suicide end up brawling on the outside, drawing Samoa Joe and Daniels (who was at the announce table) in as well.

Earl Hebner -- now the "senior ref" -- throws the match out and books a tag match for later tonight. This is part of the "give power back to the refs" edict in TNA, but it's weird that Hebner's making matches when TNA has so many other authority figures hanging around (it's in the double digits now!).

World Elite is out. Bashir wants to talk about the Iraq War and I'm not really interested in what any wrestling company has to say about politics so I FFWD. Oh, here's Hernandez. Eric Young explains to him that he'll always be a foreigner, but Hernandez tells him that the Impact Zone fans are his "familia."

Lauren is in back with the Motor City Machine Guns -- Alex Shelley is operating the camera and is fixated on Lauren's cleavage. Dr. Stevie arrives and walks up to Chris Sabin and says, "Are you gentlemen tired of fooling around? Are you ready to make some real money?" Sabin, awkwardly, replies, "Doctor, I like you...I'm just not in like with you." Actually, Dr. Stevie wants them to end Abyss' career in exchange for $50,000, and the Guns realize that this will allow them to promote their new merch -- a MCMG tissue-box cover. Alex points out, "It's got a pistol on it, but that's just a prototype."

Awesome Kong & Raisha Saeed vs. MEM (Traci Brooks & Sharmell): This is the first match in the Knockout Tag tournament. Sharmell stays out of the ring almost completely -- not only is she afraid of Kong, she's afraid of Saeed, too.

Kong KILLS Brooks with the Awesomesplash off the second rope -- goes for pin -- no, Sharmell breaks it up. Kong goes after Sharmell, even though Saeed tries to draw her attention to the still-supine Brooks. Saeed finally blind-tags in and covers for three.

Kong shoots Saeed the Stare of Death for "stealing" the pin -- I don't think this team is going to outlast the tournament. I'll miss Saeed's awesome ring gear.

Here's the brackets for the tournament:
Traci & Sharmell
Kong & Saeed

Taylor Wilde & Sarita
Daffney & Alissa Flash

Beautiful People
Madison Rayne & Mystery Partner (If ODB's busy, I predict Mickie Knuckles!)

Hamada & Sojo Bolt
Tara & Christy Hemme

Huh, that means if the Daff-n-Flash Connection beats Wilde & Sarita, we'll finally see Saeed and Flash in the ring together. A classic matchup!

Matt Morgan is in the Main Event Mafia's dressing room -- he's tagging with Scott Steiner and Booker T tonight, but he wants to let Kurt Angle know that he's also going to be one of Angle's opponents in a four-way match at No Surrender (September 20th on PPV!). Morgan says it's going to be great, "little buddy!" He hugs Angle, much to Angle's chagrin.

Rhino versus Jesse Neal: SQUASH and Rhino wins with a big spinebuster. After the match he GORES Neal for good measure -- and ref Jamie Tucker reverses the decision! With nothing to lose, Rhino lays in the boots to Neal until Brother Devon (?!?) makes the save.

ODB and Cody Deaner make their arguments to "Judge" Mick Foley in The Case Of The Disputed Knockout Belt. ODB says that she should be the Knockout champ because, um, hello, she's ALL WOMAN. Deaner says he should be the champ because he's KO'd both Mike Tyson and Chuck Norris. Foley just CAN'T DECIDE and books a match between them at No Surrender (September 20th on PPV!), winner gets the title. This seems like a really weird time for them to be joking around with the Knockout Title, but I guess they're just killing time until the Tag Tournament is done (although Brooks is freed up already...?). As long as ODB wins at the PPV I won't squawk too much.

Oh, also, Abyss comes into the office to return Foley's barb-wire bat, and Foley gives him a bag of produce. Mmm, I love the barter system.

Abyss vs. The Motor City Machine Guns: STOP CLAPPING LIKE EUGENE, ABYSS. The Guns actually do better than I thought they would, but Abyss turns the tables by Shock Treating Shelley while legdropping Sabin at the same time. Abyss catches Sabin off a springboard and Black Hole Slams him for the pin. Is it better to be on TV and lose a handicap match, or off TV altogether?

Dr. Stevie berates Sabin & Shelley until Shelley hangs him in the Tree of Woe and Sabin hits the Hesitation Dropkick. (Are they heels? Are they faces?) Abyss wants some more of Stevie, but Kevin Nash comes out and says that he wants the $50,000 -- he'll take Abyss out at No Surrender (September 20th on PPV!). Well, it's in keeping with Nash's character, at least.

Daffney is in back with Lauren. Lauren asks her about her match with Hamada tonight -- how do you prepare for a match with someone you know nothing about? Daffney explains, "Lauren, I'm incapable of planning. I'm nuts, remember? I rely on VIOLENCE." She also, she says, relaxes by counting sheep -- but she doesn't let 'em jump the fence, she GRABS THEM AND KILLS THEM AND WEARS THEIR SKIN. Daffney is pretty awesome.

Daffney vs. Hamada: Hamada (Here is her TNA profile, with pic) is the daughter of Gran Hamada, born in Japan, raised in Mexico. She is, let's say, solidly built. Match is okay -- they seem a little out-of-rhythm with each other at times -- but the finish is really something. Hamada lays Daff out on a table at ringside -- the match is no DQ, "by Hamada's request" -- and then Hamada MOONSAULTS OFF THE TOP TURNBUCKLE THROUGH THE TABLE ON THE OUTSIDE. Yeah! Then she hauls Daffney into the ring and hits her with the Hamadadriver (Michinoku Driver II -- looks like Alissa Flash will have to find a new finisher) aaaand that's a pin.

Samoa Joe & D'Angelo Dinero vs. Suicide & Daniels: You know, given their iconography, "The Pope" and "The Fallen Angel" would make a pretty cool team -- bring back James Mitchell to manage them! Match is good enough -- nothing too out there. Dinero continues to look good, but it's not enough -- Suicide slithers through the ropes and Dinero catches nothing but turnbuckle with the Ex-Elijah Express. Suicide slingshots back into the ring into a side roll for the pin, and Dinero is SHOCKED. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN, he's all like.

Dixie Carter, TNA PRESIDENT, makes her Impact debut, sitting on a couch with Bobby Lashley. She announces TNA's three-year deal with Spike. Lashley says he's giving 100% to MMA and 100% to TNA as well. Carter says she'd like to see him with a belt on each shoulder, one for MMA and one for TNA. She also lets him know that he'll be making his in-ring debut at No Surrender (September 20th on PPV!) against, of all people, Rhino. I PREDICT RHINO WINS!

Booker T, Scott Steiner, & Matt Morgan vs. AJ Styles, Sting, & Hernandez: AJ is mostly face-in-peril, Hernandez is the unstoppable powerhouse, and Sting is guy-mostly-on-the-apron and doesn't even bother taking off his t-shirt. Morgan is about to lift Hernandez up for the Hellevator when Steiner comes in with a chair -- Morgan thinks that Steiner is after him and is distracted. Hernandez shoves Morgan into the chair, and then Styles comes in with a BIG crossbody and pins Morgan! (I'm glad they're not doing a "losing streak" deal with Styles.)

After the match, Booker and Steiner berate Morgan until Morgan snaps and lays them out -- Kurt Angle (who was at the announce table) is concerned at this turn of events.

As we head out, Mike Tenay tells us that the other two slots in the four-way for the World Title at No Surrender (September 20th on PPV!) will be determined in qualifying matches -- check TNAwrestling.com for details! (TNAwrestling.com: "Due to a pending legal situation the brackets for next week's No Surrender World Title Qualifier Tournament cannot be posted at this point. TNA Officials are working as we speak to iron out the problems, and TNAwrestling.com is being told the brackets will appear right here at 9AM Eastern time Friday morning instead.") INTRIGUE!

Hamada is FINE. What an inauspicious first post.

Are they really planning on pushing Lashley as a mega-crossover-superduperstar?

Kong and Saed to break up? Beautiful People have to win then don't they? Unless they use this opportunity to create a new team, which is not a bad idea. I'm willing to look past all the random singles pairings since there was no tag team division before so there aren't any tag teams. I'm not sure there are even women tag teams on the indies to hire?

I'm not sure which random singles teams I'd like to see together though. I'd prefer to see Sarita, Tara and Hamada as singles wrestlers. Madison Rayne/ODB would be an okay team but like you said, it might not be ODB with her having the Knockout match. So I'm not sure what to do other than give Beautiful People the belts.

I really like Kevin Nash's in it for the money character. I just wish he could do it without wrestling.

I'm glad TNA isn't going with a retiring or losing streak angle with AJ, but it also makes the last month's use of AJ Styles pointless.

Brackets for the Final two spots in No Surrender Main Event:
Bracket 1
Rhino vs. Sting
Hernandez vs. Homicide

Bracket 2
AJ Styles vs. Chris Sabin
Suicide vs. Doug Williams

Could be fun. Hernandez/Homicide and Styles/Sabin should be a lot of fun. Unfortunately Hernandez will have to do the job to Sting and I'm guessing Styles opponent is Doug Williams via Pope interference on Suicide.

Doug Williams, but no Jay Lethal, Consequences Creed or Shelly in the tourney? A little surprised at No Beer Money on the show and little or no World Elite. At least MCMG got some air time. I do think this is AJ's time for the belt and leads to Sting retirement match at Bound for Glory for Sting's retirement. Hopefully, TNA handles it a quarter as well as WWE did with Flair. Its time to end the MEM, the whole we have all the belts has done nothing for the show.

I am enjoying how the Knockout division is developing, but there needs to be more love to the X-Division in with Joe has champ, it feels like they are missing something of late. It would be nice to see a x-division tag title and just dump those silly Jap tag belts.

No more tag titles. The Knockouts tag belt is a dumb enough concept, and will limp along meaning very little for its hopefully short existence. Personally, I'm pulling for Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo.

I can't believe Joe is back in the X division ghetto. Not that the X division is BAD, per se, but it's come to something when your main event career is stalling worse than Chris Jericho's.

So they put Rhino in a tourney for a spot in the main event of No Surrender--AFTER they announce his match for No Surrender? Way to make him look like a threat.

They've really buried Rhino. They need to do something with him. I don't mean a major push, but something that at least makes him seem somewhat relevant.

I have always been quick to defend Rhino when others bash him. He is being wasted. He is always over, cuts very good promos, and can go in the ring. What else do you need for an upper mid card guy?

I would disagree with the "cuts very good promos." He's always yelling in them and it's really annoying. Maybe part of it is what he's scripted to say, but he's been so unlikeable the last six months or so in TNA.

I was watching TNA last night when my fiance asked (first) what show I was watching (since I usually watch only WWE) then she asked why it was so corny compared to the 'other show' I watch (she thinks RAW, ECW and Smackdown are all the same show).

After watching it, she said the girl match with the goth chick was the best one of the night.

What's that saying when somebody who barely knows wrestling puts a Daffney match at the top of the list?

I don't know why I keep this routine of watching every two months or so to see if TNA will get better. It just doesn't seem like it ever will.

What's it saying when somebody who barely knows wrestling says that Marty Jannetty had the best match on Smackdown? It's saying that Kurt Angle is a great wrestler.

In fairness, I didn't watch Impact yet, but Meltzer said that it was obvious that Ayako Hamada is miles better than any of the other women in TNA. Not that his word is gospel, but I'm willing to entertain the possibility.

I thought this was a pretty good show after many months of not good shows. The Rhino thing is confusing, but other than that things seem to be making sense. Plus, as Bryan Alvarez and others have noted, they are pushing new stars. I dislike Matt Morgan and am generally indifferent to Hernandez, but they are really getting decent pushes. Anything to break up the boring grouping of Angle, Sting, Jarrett and Foley every month on top is welcomed by me.

Really? I thought Hamada looked slow and honestly kind of disinterested in the match until it was time for her moonsault. In all fairness, it was a fantastic moonsault.

I took the "slow" as "taken her time" and "measuring up the competition". ALthough she's Japanese I don' think she has to me all quick and flippy. Besides, with her thick build, the slow, methodical sorta works in her favor I think.

According to (page 2 of)this article, Sharmell once put on the Raishi Saeed outfit and talked to another diva for over ten minutes without her realizing it wasn't Melissa. So I wouldn't rule out a Saeed vs Flash match altogether.

I think Monty Brown will wear the TNA title one day. It seems that they're grooming him to be one of their major players. I personally think the guy is entertaining, especially now in his "tweener" role.
