This episode was actually awesome. Joe/Kaz was good, MCMGs/Masatao & Naruki rocked, the Beautiful People/AJ/Karen segment was hilarious (perhaps partially even intentionally so!). There was other stuff that was pretty good, too, if you ignore the fact that Angle is wrestling with a broken neck and looks like he's been ravaged by AIDS. I'll admit that the inordinate amount of times LAX have been whipped by a team of white dudes in their relatively short history is a bit disturbing.

You're right, Alby, this episode was kind of...astounding, actually. No dumb skits, the promos were short & to-the-point, no Super Eric or Black Reign or Kip James or Stone Cold Shark Boy, and the wrestling was wall-to-wall. Best Impact of the year, easy. No complaints from me -- quibbles, maybe, but no complaints.

Samoa Joe vs. Kaz: For the World Title! This was one match where interference would have made perfect sense, given Scott Steiner's loose-cannon jealousy. While I'm disappointed to see Kaz beaten so decisively, it was by Samoa Joe, and it'd be hypocritical to grouse about that.

I could've done without Booker T mocking Kaz afterward, but oh well -- hopefully we get a Booker/Kaz feud in the future.

Kurt Angle is in back with Lauren, and he says that Karen Angle now has been signed to a TNA contract -- to do what, exactly? Kurt says that since Spike has a no-man-on-woman-violence edict, he's put a hit out on Karen! He has a vision of her and AJ Styles laid out side-by-side, comatose, by the end of the show.

Jeremy Borash is here with DAVARI, who is the leader of "Team International." He cuts his promo in Persian (I think) with subtitles, and announces his teammates as Doug Williams (yay!), Alex Koslov (who?), and Tyson Dux (oh, bleargh).

Motor City Machine Guns vs. SpeedMuscle: HOT CATS those guys are fast. This was really neat. Doi & Yoshino had some awesome double-team moves and no one let up for a second. MMG win with the Stereo Superkicks.

Samoa Joe and Kevin Nash have a discussion about Booker T -- Nash says that Joe can't beat him, because Booker's already in Joe's head. Joe is unimpressed by this assessment.

LAX vs. James Storm and Robert Roode: This is for the Tag Titles -- has TNA decided that the singles pushes for Roode and Storm aren't working? I'd agree on Roode's part but I don't think they've tried hard enough with Storm.

Storm originally gets the pin via a Superkick with a belt wrapped around his boot (with the buckle on the sole) but Hector Guerrero explains to the ref what happened; the ref restarts the match and Hernandez pins Storm with an Alphabomb.

After the match, LAX gets handcuffed and whupped by the heels. I hadn't thought about it until Alby brought it up, but...hmmm.

Gail Kim vs. Velvet Sky: Not great, due to Velvet's rookiness -- at one point she puts on a Figure 4 that is just...well, just not right. The story is solid, with Velvet going after Kim's injured leg, at one point raking Kim's eyes and then dropkicking her in the knee and off the apron. Kim pulls out a win with the cross-arm neckbreaker, which needs a new name.

(Quibble: jeez, what happened to Roxxi? Why has Kim totally replaced her in this feud?)

Curry Man vs. Alex Kozlov: Koslov is a young Russian, and the only member of Team International that I'm unfamiliar with. Fun, short match featuring a dance-off. Koslov wins with a Russian Leg Sweep (yeah!) and a springboard splash.

Samoa Joe grants Booker T a title shot at Victory Road (July 13 on PPV!).

Sonjay Dutt vs. Consequences Creed: Dutt dedicates this match to SoCal Val, and blows kisses to the camera a couple of times during the match -- and also, after low-blowing Creed, gives us a huge wink, ha ha! Dutt wins with the Hindu Press (450 splash -- didn't that used to have a twist in it somewhere?).

Creed looked alright and got some moves in but for a guy who debuted with a hype video he's treading water.

Jay Lethal runs down and chases Dutt off, and challenges him to a match next week -- BUT NOT IN THE RING -- at the restaurant that they had their bachelor party at, the Pink Taco. (Apparently a real place. Good Lord.)

AJ Styles vs. Kurt Angle: This is a lumberjack match with 3D, Tomko, Christian Cage, Rhino, and Matt Morgan, and with Frank Trigg on commentary. Good match, but I am cringing every time Angle goes down. Wrap up this feud and send Kurt on vacation, please. Kurt wins, after interference with the Angle Slam, but AJ had been owning him for most of the match.

After the match, the heels beat down the good guys. Abyss runs down and puts Tomko through a table. Soon only AJ and Kurt are left; Kurt plays possum and AJ ends up splashing himself through another table. Karen runs down and baits Kurt; Awesome Kong comes out and KOs Karen with a single punch! Kurt lays Karen and AJ, comatose, side-by-side -- he's a prophet!

Good show!

Excellent show. I also don't have complaints just minor squibbles. The main one being match-wise the show was top heavy. Joe/Kaz, MCMG/Speed Muscle, LAX vs. Roode/Storm were the three best matches and they were the first three matches. One of them should've been in the second hour while Dutt/Creed, Kim/Velvet or Kozlov/Curry Man should have been moved up earlier.

Speaking of Velvet, seeing her stink up another match makes me think she REALLY should have taken the pin at the PPV match instead of Mickie Knuckles.

Speed Muscle was very impressive but I was especially impressed with Roode and Storm. They were actually interesting for once and I loved the Dusty finish. Going to commercial break thinking that LAX had lost was a nice touch. It was also a nice way of using the commercial break rather than have it interrupt the match.

Kurt Angle putting out a hit on Karen and it being answered by Kong is just gold.

Nash vs. Joe continues to be good but like I've said before. I wish I could get more excited about the actual match that will result from the feud.

So, what is the real deal with Angle's neck? Is it really broken? Is he wrestling against doctors orders? How okay with this is TNA?

I'm totally impressed with how TNA has used Awesome Kong. This is the type of thing the WWE would have never been able to pull off. It would have ended up being about her looks and weekly mockery from Jerry Lawler during her matches. Where did they find this lady?

Edit: How did Davari get to keep the name? Is that his actual name? He could do well for himself in TNA

I am pretty sure his real name is Shawn Davari.

I wish that potential new fans would watch this show, they might actually tune in again. That's been the problem with Impact, it is usually so inconsistent, you see why they don't draw in new viewers.

Kozlov going over Curry Man was surprising. I suppose Curry is just going to be the Crowd Pleasing Guy Who Jobs a Lot. Then again, how could be considered serious threat with a plate of Chinese food on his head?

Angle does not look good, I am curious to know the truth about his health. If he has to, he could hang it up now without worrying about tarnishing his legacy. He has had 2 solid years in TNA.

I don't watch TNA (sorry, just don't have the time) but were those the actual words that Angle used, "put a hit out on my wife"?

That's a bit much, isn't it?

Well, according to this column (wrestlingherald.com) on the Wrestling Herald website:

TNA has had doctors evaluate him before every show as of late and he was cleared to wrestle on Sunday and Monday. I was told by a source who used to work for WWE that TNA has been much more cautious about his injuries than WWE ever was. He said "if Angle said he could go 9 times out of 10 WWE would let him no matter what the doctors said". TNA has not taken that route. Kurt wanted to go at Sacrifice but the doctors said no so TNA did the same.
Now, I don't know where this guy gets his info from, who his sources are, or what sort of "doctors" they have examining Kurt, so apply grains of salt as needed.

That's what he said, but he immediately made it clear that it was an offer to the Knockouts to "go after" her -- not, you know, an actual assassination.

I just watched the show, and I don't have much to add, other than this: I noticed some of the women -- at least Gail, Velvet, and So Cal Val -- were wearing black armbands with red "A"s on them. Anyone know what's up with that?

I believe that is in memory of the crew member who died in a fall at the PPV. Joe was also wearing one. They flashed the guy's name on the screen at the beginning, but I (sadly) don't remember what it was.

Kevin "Angus" Sinex. Actually, almost everyone was wearing armbands, with the exception of the foreign guys. AJ's was red with a black "A", and Devon had a big "A" written on his wrist tape.

Okay, first TNA I've watched in FOREVER, so forgive me if some of my comments/questions seem retarded.

First, Kurt Angle looks sick as hell. He seriously should take some time off.

Second, who were the Japanese guys? The ones fighting the Motor City Machine Guns? That was one of the most entertaining matches I've seen in a long, LONG time. Crisp moves, great double team spots that didnt seem TOO contrived, and tons of action.

Third, (this is the "he might be retarded" question) When did Nash start to cut promos that make him look like a legit bad ass, and not a smart ass? That's the best promo I've seen out of him ever.

Great, GREAT show, with the only grip I have is some of the promos ended a bit oddly, like mid 90s SNL sketches, where they just didnt know how to wrap things up.

Kurt not wrestling and resting his neck = dropping weight at a rapid pace.

I don't get it. It's like he has cancer or something.

I don't know what fits here...do I point out that Tomko doesn't need to be beating anybody, or joke that you need to actually have heat before you can lose it? I'm all for scaling back Orton's push, it just did not take.
