Matt Morgan is backstage with Lauren, the new interviewer, and they are walking down the hall. Kip James passes them, going the other way, not paying any attention at all to them, and Matt Morgan is all like "excuse me" to Lauren and then he turns around and BEATS THE CRAP OUT OF KIP JAMES. "Old man! Old man!"

So far, this is the GREATEST IMPACT EVER.

Booker T and Sting are in the ring. Booker says he never meant to disrespect Sting. Robert Roode and James Storm (and Jackie Moore) come out and mock them. Jim Cornette comes out and sets up a tag match for...tonight!

Cornette also explains the DEUCES WILD Tag Team Tournament. Okay, pay attention -- there will be a quiz. We start with eight "established" teams. Tonight and next week, there will be four qualifying matches. The four winning teams will advance to the Deuces Wild Tournament at Sacrifice (on PPV May 11!). But WAIT -- there will ALSO be four MORE teams at Sacrifice, and THESE teams will be comprised of SINGLES wrestlers who will be paired off RANDOMLY.

So, at Sacrifice, there will be a one-night tournament involving EIGHT TEAMS -- four established, qualifying teams, and four teams thrown together the night of the PPV. The WINNERS of this whole shebang will be the NEW TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS.

(Okay, that means, assuming no further hinkiness, that there are going to be SEVEN tag team matches at Sacrifice -- add the Samoa Joe vs. Scott Steiner match and the woman's match [see below] and that's pretty much the whole card! [Not only that, but it means that most of the card won't even be fully determined until the show starts!] Now, I'm not against giving a PPV an overarching theme like this, but I have this funny feeling that it's going to be an excuse to give the titles to a crazy, wacky "these guys hate each other!!!" team like, say, Booker and Roode.)

Jeremy Borash finds AJ Styles backstage. Styles thinks that the Deuces Wild Tournament is stupid, but he and Tomko will win it anyway. Karen Angle is here -- she thinks it's a bad idea to be here, but Styles disagrees. Borash promises not to tell Kurt.

The Monsters vs. Team 3D: This is a Deuces Wild qualifying match. 3D seems to have gotten over last week's tiff, for the most part. Black Reign looks particularly bad tonight. Rellik takes the pin (OMG) after eating a 3D.

Kurt is preparing for his match with Joe. He totally disses Scott Steiner (who would be his opponent at Sacrifice if he wins tonight). Borash, with no small amount of giddiness, stooges out AJ and Karen.

The Motor City Machine Guns vs. Christian Cage and Rhino: Wait, Cage and Rhino are now an "established" team? Anyway, this is another Deuces Wild qualifying match. I went into this match -- I admit -- already composing a rant in my head about how the MMG were being buried, and about how keeping them in the doghouse was punishing the fans and hurting TNA, but you know what? This was a really fun match, and the MMG actually came out looking better than they have in a long time.

Yes, they lost, but they really looked like they were hanging with Rhino and Cage -- this was particularly true during the Shelley/Cage segments, and I'd like to see a singles match between those two sometime. The MMG hit some nice doubleteams, and at one point Sabin double DDTd Cage and Rhino -- I wasn't expecting that. Finally, after Rhino gored Shelley, Cage hit Sabin with the unprettier and that was that. Good stuff.

Cornette is in the ring and brings out the Knockouts -- Gail Kim, ODB, Roxxi Laveaux, Salinas, Traci Brooks, Rhaka Khan, Velvet Sky, Angelina Love, Jacqueline Moore, and Christy Hemme -- and tells them that at Sacrifice, there's going to be a MAKEOVER BATTLE ROYAL. It starts with a Ten Woman Battle Royale -- easy enough. When it's down to the last two, it becomes a LADDER MATCH. The winner is the first Knockout to climb the ladder and grab the contract for a title shot. The runner-up...GETS HER HEAD SHAVED.

Robert Roode and James Storm vs. Booker T and Sting: And, see, this match stands in stark contrast to the MMG/C&R match above. Despite getting some licks in, Roode and Storm are portrayed as clearly not on the same level as Booker and Sting. Sting even gets the win by hitting the Scorpion Death Drop on Storm while wearing Storm's cowboy hat, just to drive home the point that Sting and Booker can goof around and don't need to take these guys seriously. Booo.

Kurt confronts Styles and Karen. He's not upset about Karen being here with AJ, he's just PO'd that she's here at all, distracting him when he's trying to focus on Joe. He orders AJ to get her out of arena. This feels more and more like it's building up to AJ vs. Kurt, and I approve mightily.

Jim Cornette is in his office clutching blueprints for some sort of metal structure that he's going to use at Sacrifice (whether for an already-booked match or for something else, he doesn't say). He cackles and says that he's finally going to get back at those spoiled brat wrestlers. What I like about this segment is that it makes it crystal clear that Cornette's coming up with these wacky gimmick matches because he has been driven honey-coated-nut-bar-crazy.

Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe: This was about twenty minutes of awesome. The first half or so was Joe just KILLING Kurt -- to the point that Don West claimed Joe was "toying" with Kurt -- including hitting a Suicide Dive and a Facewash in the corner. Kurt finally gained some measure of control after Joe hurt his knee spilling out of the ring -- Kurt focused on that for awhile with figure-four leg locks and the like.

Joe was able to get to his feet, finally, but found that he couldn't run; Angle was able to evade Joe's limping charges with ease. Angle misses a moonsault, though, allowing Joe to somersault (thus keeping pressure off his knee!) up behind him and grab the Coquina Clutch! Angle reverses it into the Anglelock, but Joe is able to roll over onto his back and kick Angle's leg out from under him, causing Angle to fall back into the Clutch again! Sweet.

It all goes goofy when Joe kicks the ref in the head (to his credit, Earl Hebner goes down like he's been POLEAXED) and then Scott Steiner hits Kurt with a lead pipe. Joe -- who may not have seen the interference -- pins Angle after a -- well, I think it was the Island Driver. No matter, Angle was pretty much dead anyway.

Joe stares at Steiner after the match and Steiner talks trash to him. Joe SLAPS THE COIF RIGHT OFF OF SCOTT'S HEAD. Cornette is out and peeved at Scott's interference, and punishes him by making the Title Match at Sacrifice a three way -- it's now Samoa Joe vs. Scott Steiner vs. Kurt Angle.

Good show! MMG/Cage & Rhino was good, and the Main Event was a blast. Oh, and Kip James' sole appearance was haplessly getting beaten down!

I have to say I like the booking for the PPV.

I'm sure the tag team tournament will probably end with a wacky tag team winning but I like random tag teams. I wouldn't mind at all if say Curry Man tagged with say...Matt Morgan. I'm also looking forward to (almost) an entire night of tag team wrestling and the possibility that it could be good tag team wrestling. WWE could never pull that off unless they just had some really good random pairings.

I kind of like the idea of the women's match too. The women's division has been great so I'm interested in what the last two survivors can do in a ladder match. I wonder if anybody will purposely bow out because they don't want to risk losing their hair if they are the runner up.

Making the main event a triple threat is a good idea too. Steiner and Joe and had a great singles match once upon a time but that was a while ago so I'm not sure Steiner can pull that off now, plus I'm not sure he's a big enough draw for the main event. Throwing Kurt in there probably makes it a better match, as long as Joe retains.

totally agree on the love for the knockouts. I'd like to see at least 2 if not 4 or 6 more women in tna. there's alot of talent out there not on tv now that could be. At least getting Erica Porter (jungle girl of WOW) on the roster would absolutely rock!! I think that tna almost has deep enough a roster to get at least one more hour a week on tv. maybe on wed or friday night.

No matter how crazy Jim Cornette is portrayed as being, there's just no excuse for going so wild with all these ridiculous stipulations. If you've got a woman on the roster who is willing to have her head shaved, for goodness' sake, make it the final result of a serious feud, not punishment for the heinous crime of finishing second in bizarre hybrid match.

I do like Qweezy's idea that someone should jump out because she doesn't want to risk getting her head shaved. I nominate the "beautiful people" tag team for that, actually.

Since when has Russo needed an excuse for stipulations?

As for the tag team thing...good to see the WCW Random Booking Monkey getting some tag team work in again.

When half of TNA's tag teams tease dissension on a weekly basis, you almost have to wonder if it's BETTER that they get paired up randomly. Hell, one of the random teams will probably get along better than Team 3D or Caged Rhino, who were just teasing dissension last week. Or you could easily have 8 teams of guys who all hate their partners. With that little factoid in mind, this is one of the dumber ideas TNA's had this year and that's saying a lot.

The main event was good, but that run-in was totally unnecessary. The match was already one-sided in favor of Joe and didn't need the Steiner run-in.

And because there aren't enough teams that are falling apart at the seams after forming for...a whole week, witness both Sting & Booker and Roode & Storm. Blah.

It's not good when the best part of this show is Kip James getting laid out...to open the show. Oof.

I agree about shaving a woman's head for no reason, much like WWE did to Molly Holly to get Victoria over as a face. That didn't quite work out.

"My drunk cowboy friend" was my favorite part of the show, aside from the solid main event. Oh wait, change my vote to Kip getting his arse kicked.

Of all the people that could possibly be added to the roster, or people who I would have ever guessed anyone would want added to the roster, this neevr ever would have crossed my mind.

That said, I wonder whatever happened to Riot.
