Robert Roode mocks Sharmell by drinking a liquid steak. You can tell it's a liquid steak because he's drinking it out of a plastic tumbler with "LIQUID STEAK" written on it. Robert Roode: master of the subtle jape.

Robert Roode vs. Jay Lethal: Oops, no -- Booker T attacks Roode during his entrance and chases him off. We don't see Jay Lethal at all; I mention this because we still don't know if he's dropped the Machismo gimmick permanently since speaking "out of character" two weeks ago.

Traci Brooks vs. Awesome Kong: Traci is no longer a "Miss," apparently. Kong has Raisha Saeed with her. (That's the official spelling, according to the chyron. Of course, the chyron is not infallible; I wrote Jeremy Borash an email once to point out that "Flying Elvis's" was not grammatically accurate. He replied, "I'll look into that.") ODB cuts a promo on the Impactotron before the match; Brooks tries to take advantage of the distraction, but Kong cuts her off. Brooks actually does better against Kong than Hemme and Sky did, which is interesting, but Kong drops her with a butterfly into a faceplant and the Awesome Bomb.

Payton Banks is out afterwards to kick Brooks' ass for a while. Meanwhile, backstage, Roode runs away from Booker, gets into his car, and drives off.

Scott Steiner and "The Definition of Definition" (heh) Petey Williams are still arguing about the cases -- Jim Cornette makes a match -- the two will face each other at Against All Odds (this Sunday on Pay Per View!), and the winner gets BOTH cases. Petey, interestingly, seems pretty confident, and jumps up on the chair to pose. Cornette objects -- "I just got this Scotch-guarded!"

Kaz vs. Black Reign: This is -- brace yourselves -- a RAT ON A POLE match. There are four poles. Each one has a mailbox at the top -- attached just like a regular mailbox, not hanging loose. You can climb up and open one and stick your hand inside -- three of them have mousetraps inside, and one has Misty the Rat.

Kaz actually looks good, even though Reign is a slow lump of wobble. Kaz finds Misty and wins after crotching Reign on the top rope, but afterwards, Reign beats down Kaz and takes Misty back. I really hope that this is a way to end the feud with Kaz winning and yet still have Reign keep his rat, because I'm really disappointed in how badly the Kaz push has not just jumped the rails but pretty much plunged into the River Kwai.

Johnny Devine vs. Homicide: This is an X Division title match. Homicide has Salinas but no Hernandez. This match might have the most Homicide offense I've ever seen in TNA. Homicide has Devine pinned after the Gringo Killa but the ref...uh, the ref stops counting at two and waits for Team 3D to finish getting to the ring. Not yet. Not yet. Okay, here they are -- and that's a DQ.

At this point, Mike Tenay casually mentions that titles in TNA no longer change hands on DQs (he says they mentioned it last week, but I must have missed it). I find this frustrating because just tossing it out there makes it seem like it's nothing more than a lazy decision by the writers -- "we're tired of trying to find ways to write around that," or (as suggested by a recent house show) "we have trouble remembering that that's the rule." Or, the best possibility of all, "we accidentally had this title match end in a DQ -- let's have Tenay dub something in in post production to explain it away." This is a fairly significant sea change as far as title matches go, and if they decided to do it, it would've been nice to explain it somehow.

Anyway, after the match, Hernandez comes in and they chase off 3D and Hernandez KILLS Devine with the Border Toss. I mean, seriously -- Devine could get a job as a Blemmyae after that one.

Jim Cornette is out for a second attempt at Samoa Joe's contract signing. Joe is out with his BFF Kevin Nash -- he's about to sign when Kurt Angle's music hits. Kurt says he knows why Joe doesn't like him -- it's because Kurt came in and replace Joe as the best in TNA. Also, Joe had better not cause Kurt to lose at Against All Odds (this Sunday on Pay Per View!). Joe agrees with all of this and then spinebusters Kurt through the table. Cornette digs the contract out from under Kurt's supine form but Joe tosses i aside.

The Rock N' Rave Infection play with their Guitar Hero controllers backstage, pretending to be a real band. Is this supposed to suggest that Lance Hoyt and Jimmy Rave are idiots who can't tell a video game controller from a musical instrument? Or is it supposed to be hip and cutting edge? I honestly cannot tell. Rn'R are a decent little tag team and could be -- well, credible jobbers, at least, without this silliness.

Rock N' Rave Infection vs. Curry Man and Stone Cold Shark Boy: Well, this is all comedy but there's some really fun stuff in it. There's a great sequence where Curry Man runs the ropes and tries to shoulder block Hoyt down -- no effect. He tries again -- no effect. He invites Hoyt to give it a go -- Hoyt starts to run towards the ropes but Curry Man immediately sticks out a foot and trips him, then hops up and dances on Hoyt's back. Ha ha! Hoyt does a move where he holds Curry Man like he's going for a fallaway slam, but he plays guitar with him -- that's a pretty good signature pose, actually.

Hoyt eats a Shark Boy Stunner and goes outside, and Rave takes the SPICY RACK; Curry Man invites Shark Boy (who I think is the legal man, anyway) to cover for the pin, which he does.

AJ Styles vs. Tiger Mask: You know, I was really not impressed with Tiger Mask the last time he came through town, but this was pretty good -- Tiger Mask hit a standing moonsault where he landed knees-first (ouch!) and a sweet suicide dive where he just RAMMED into Styles. A mild ref bump allows AJ to sneak in a mule kick low blow followed by the Styles Clash for the pin.

Christian Cage is out and he invites Tomko to join him. Cage wants to know where Tomko stands, so he turns around and offers Tomko a free shot. Tomko considers it but eventually just leaves.

Christian Cage vs. Judas Mesias: This is a really weird match to book -- there's no build-up, no reason at all, and neither guy should really be losing to the other at this point, so I figured that it would end inconclusively. When Abyss came out, arm wrapped in barbed wire, I though, "oh, of course" -- but no, Abyss just chased off Jim Mitchell, and Cage pinned Mesias clean with the Unprettier. Weird.

Anyway, Abyss comes back and chases Mesias away -- Styles is out to beat down Christian (to prove to Angle that he's still on his side), but Cage gets him in a submission -- Tenay calls it a Sharpshooter, but I don't think it is -- but then Kurt Angle is out -- wait, now Tomko is out for the save (I was half expecting a swerve, there). He helps Cage up as Angle and Styles retreat -- that looks like a tag match in the making, right there.

So, yeah. Some good wrestling with some really odd endings this week.

Kaz looks good, but that match was stupid, since they could totally see what was inside the boxes there.

Curry Man is amazing, though.

I can't believe we wasted so much time watching Christopher Daniels when we could have been getting Curry Man instead.

Even though this show had it's problems, I thought it was a far superior show to RAW this week.

As retarded as a 'Rat On A Pole' match sounds, it wasn't really that bad. Dustin even took a few bumps.

Exactly hoe sure are you people about Daniels being Curry Man? I like Christopher Daniels and all, but I never felt he had that much character in him to pull off a Curry man type character. The dancing, the completely aloofness of it all, it just doesn't strike me as Daniels underneath that awesome costume. ...I should also mention that Stone Cold SharkBoy and Curry Man have the potential to be the greatest tag team EVER!

But what about Tomko and Styles? They're already tag champs, you can't split them while they hold the belts... that just doesn't make sense.

...oh wait, this is Russo writing, nevermind.

And who would've ever thought Dustin Rhodes would have the charisma to pull off "Goldust"?

As for Curry Man, it was the character Daniels has played in Japan, and it makes sense to bring him "back" to TNA this way after he lost the loser leaves TNA match.

Also, I've seen Daniels doing the Curry Man dance -- I think he and Styles were having a dance-off for some reason. There's footage of it kicking around somewhere on the internet, I'm sure.

I'm assuming that Stomko will lose the belts tomorrow to BG James and his dad. It is Russo.

I can't WAIT to see Bullet Bob eat the softest slams and clotheslines humanly possible. I'm going to the show tonight, and this and the barbwire match will be perfect nacho breaks.

It seems to me like they are setting up Kip to cost the Armstrongs the belts tonight. It sucks either way.

Oh, good call. I had forgotten about how Kip was all "I fully support you!" on the last Impact -- if that's not a tip-off, I don't know what is.

Okay, I predict that BG & Bullet will win anyway -- maybe even with Kip's help -- and then Kip will get really jealous and cause them to lose the titles to some other team (Bobby Knight and Jonny Fairplay, perhaps) at the next opportunity.

I guess the only thing about The Rock is having him attack Shawn would be absolutely nonsensical. But yeah, by the end the crowd was getting a little flat, and even a small dose of Rocky would have given the crowd a nice pop, and added nicely to the show.
